Abstract

Pantai Panjang in Bengkulu Province is a strategic coastal area that supports tourism, local economic activities, and environmental protection but is highly vulnerable to wave attack and coastal erosion due to its direct exposure to the Indian Ocean. This study aims to evaluate the construction quality and performance of rubble mound breakwaters in reducing wave energy and controlling shoreline erosion. An empirical descriptive approach was employed through field observations, measurements at six observation points, drone documentation, interviews, and secondary data analysis. Construction quality was assessed based on material suitability, structural geometry, and damage level, while performance evaluation focused on wave attenuation, abrasion reduction, and overtopping occurrence. The results indicate that most breakwater segments remain in good condition, with an average wave transmission coefficient of 0.32 and approximately 63% reduction in shoreline erosion. Lower performance was identified at locations with inadequate material dimensions and reduced crest elevation. The findings emphasize the importance of regular maintenance and periodic performance evaluation to sustain the long-term effectiveness of coastal protection structures.

Abstract

Drainage channels are essential infrastructure for controlling stormwater runoff and reducing the risk of inundation and flooding. Accurate drainage dimension planning requires reliable hydrological analysis based on local rainfall characteristics. This study aimed to determine the appropriate dimensions of a drainage channel in Rimbo Recap Village, South Curup District, using rainfall data collected from 2018 to 2022. A quantitative approach was employed by integrating field observations, documentation, hydrological analysis, and hydraulic analysis. Maximum rainfall data were analyzed to estimate design rainfall, rainfall intensity, and design discharge using the Rational Method, followed by hydraulic calculations to determine the channel dimensions. The analysis produced a design discharge of 0.456 m³/s, while the planned channel capacity reached 0.511 m³/s, indicating that the proposed dimensions were hydraulically adequate. The recommended open rectangular channel has a width of 0.50 m, a water depth of 0.31 m, and a freeboard of 0.39 m, providing sufficient capacity to safely convey the design runoff under local hydrological conditions. The findings provide a practical reference for designing rural drainage systems based on local rainfall characteristics to improve flood mitigation and sustainable water management.

Abstract

The selection of pavement type is a strategic decision in highway planning because it directly influences structural performance and cost efficiency throughout the service life. This study aims to compare the technical and economic performance of flexible and rigid pavements using a quantitative comparative simulation approach. The simulation was conducted on a 5 km arterial road with a subgrade California Bearing Ratio (CBR) of 5%, an annual traffic growth rate of 4.5%, and a 20-year design life. Pavement design was developed based on the 2017 Manual Desain Perkerasan Jalan (MDPJ), while the economic evaluation employed the Life Cycle Cost Analysis (LCCA) method with an 8% discount rate. The results indicate that flexible pavement requires a multilayer structure with a total thickness of approximately 50 cm, whereas rigid pavement utilizes a 25 cm concrete slab. Although the initial construction cost of flexible pavement (IDR 18.50 billion) is lower than that of rigid pavement (IDR 24.20 billion), the total life cycle cost of rigid pavement (IDR 22.47 billion) is lower than that of flexible pavement (IDR 24.72 billion). These findings demonstrate that rigid pavement is a more cost-effective alternative for heavily trafficked roads when evaluated from a life cycle cost perspective.

Abstract

Emergency exit doors are critical components of building safety systems because they support rapid and safe evacuation during emergencies. This study aimed to analyze the compliance level of emergency exit doors in Satuan Pelayanan Pemenuhan Gizi (SPPG) buildings in Bengkulu City based on SNI 03-1746-2000 and Minister of Public Works Regulation No. 26/PRT/M/2008. A quantitative descriptive approach was employed using purposive sampling involving two SPPG buildings. Data were collected through direct observation using a structured checklist consisting of 17 assessment indicators, supported by semi-structured interviews and documentation. The data were analyzed using descriptive percentage statistics to determine the compliance level of five assessment aspects, namely means of egress reliability, emergency exit door requirements, evacuation routes, emergency lighting, and exit signage. The results revealed that Building A achieved a compliance level of 47.06%, while Building B achieved 41.18%, indicating that both buildings failed to meet occupational safety and health standards. Although evacuation routes generally provided access to safe areas, several deficiencies remained regarding door specifications, obstruction-free access, emergency lighting, and exit signs. Therefore, comprehensive improvements are required to enhance evacuation effectiveness and strengthen building safety management in SPPG facilities.management and improve service quality for both internal and external customers.

Abstract

Raw material quality is an important factor in maintaining the consistency of fresh food product distribution, while wilted, damaged, and non-uniform products are still found in the operational processes of CV Cari Temu Bantu Beres. This study aims to improve raw material quality control through the Six Sigma method using the DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control) approach. Quality measurement was conducted using defect percentage, DPO, DPMO, and sigma level, while the root causes of defects were identified using a fishbone diagram. The measurement results showed an average DPMO of 26,756 with a sigma level of approximately 3.46, indicating that opportunities for defects remain in the raw material distribution process. The analysis identified the absence of standardized loading and unloading and storage procedures, the lack of an implemented grading system, and suboptimal storage conditions as the main causes of defects. Improvements were implemented through a daily grading checklist, loading and unloading and storage SOPs, and grading labels for storage areas. The implementation of these improvements made the inspection, storage, and distribution processes more structured and controlled. Continuous quality control is required to maintain quality consistency and prevent the recurrence of defects in the distribution process.

Abstract

Limited time and human negligence in regular orchid watering can reduce plant growth quality and increase the risk of plant damage. This study aims to design an Arduino-based automatic orchid watering device integrated with time and motion sensors to improve watering efficiency and maintain plant care consistency. The research employed a research and development (R&D) approach through prototype design, hardware integration, software implementation, and functional testing. The developed system consists of an Arduino Uno, DHT11 temperature sensor, Passive Infrared (PIR) sensor, RTC DS3231, relay, LCD I2C, buzzer, and water pump. The testing results showed that the prototype successfully detected environmental conditions, displayed temperature information in real-time, and activated the watering mechanism automatically at 07:00 WIB and 19:00 WIB or when the temperature exceeded 32°C. The integration of motion detection also improved operational safety by delaying watering when human activity was detected around the plant area. This innovation provides a practical solution for supporting efficient orchid maintenance in small-scale cultivation environments.
