Abstract

This study aims to describe the role of the Language Division in improving the Arabic speaking skills of students at the Imam Ath-Thobari Islamic Boarding School in Bogor. The method used was descriptive qualitative through interviews with the instructor, Language Division administrators, and several students, as well as direct observation of the language program implementation. The results indicate that the Language Division plays a key role in creating bi'ah lughawiyyah through daily activities such as promoting hiwar (religious gatherings), monitoring language use, and administering sanctions and rewards. These programs have proven quite effective in increasing students' courage and fluency in speaking. This effectiveness is supported by the competence of the ustadz (Islamic teachers), the Islamic boarding school culture that emphasizes Arabic, and the commitment of the Language Division administrators. Obstacles include students' lack of awareness of regulations, uneven motivation and discipline, and varying basic Arabic language skills. Overall, the Language Division has made a significant contribution to improving students' speaking skills, although it still requires strengthening aspects of consistency and program optimization.

Abstract

The increasing use of ChatGPT as a source for learning Arabic requires a critical evaluation of the accuracy of the grammatical analysis it produces. This study aims to analyze the accuracy and precision of i‘rab in Arabic sentences generated by ChatGPT. This research employed a mixed methods approach with a sequential exploratory design. The data consisted of 12 sentences with variations in syntactic structure, collected purposively and analyzed through content analysis. The qualitative analysis revealed errors in complex structures, such as al-bina’ lil-majhul, multi-maf‘ul, uslub syarṭ, istifham, as well as taqdim–ta’khir and i‘rab taqdir. The errors also included incorrect identification of fa’il, inaccuracies in i‘rab markers, and inconsistencies in wording. The quantitative results showed an accuracy rate of 46.81% (44/94), indicating that ChatGPT is fairly capable of recognizing basic nahwu patterns. However, these findings indicate that the use of ChatGPT at the basic level may actually risk instilling conceptual errors. Therefore, ChatGPT cannot replace classical nahwu references and must be used critically and verified with authoritative sources.

Abstract

Research on the utilization of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Arabic language learning has continued to grow alongside the increasing integration of digital technologies in education. The emergence of AI systems such as Google Gemini offers new opportunities to support the learning of Arabic grammar (nahwu), yet the accuracy of the information generated by these systems must be evaluated against authoritative grammatical sources. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the accuracy of the concepts of mubtada’ and khabar as generated by Gemini AI by comparing its explanations with the principles of Arabic grammar presented in Mulakhkhas Qawaʿid al-Lughah al-‘Arabiyyah by Fu’ad Ni‘mah. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach using a comparative method based on library research. The primary data consisted of structured responses generated by Gemini AI regarding the definitions, classifications, and examples of mubtada’ and khabar. Secondary data were obtained from Mulakhkhas Qawaʿid al-Lughah al-‘Arabiyyah, which served as the main reference source. The findings indicate that Gemini AI demonstrates a relatively high level of accuracy in explaining the basic definitions and general classifications of mubtada’ and khabar. However, the reference text provides more comprehensive explanations, particularly concerning syntactic functions, detailed classifications, and specific grammatical conditions. These findings suggest that AI has considerable potential as a supplementary learning tool in Arabic grammar instruction; nevertheless, its outputs should be verified against authoritative grammatical references to ensure accuracy and depth of understanding.

Abstract

Global educational transformation demands a repositioning of evaluation systems in language learning to remain relevant to the competencies required in the 21st century. This study aims to analyze the paradigm shift from rigid traditional assessments toward more adaptive innovative assessments in the modern Arabic curriculum. Using a descriptive qualitative methodology through literature review and content analysis, this research examines various curriculum documents and recent literature related to language assessment. The findings show that innovative assessments, such as digital portfolios and authentic assessments, provide a more comprehensive picture of learners’ competencies compared to conventional standardized tests, which tend to measure only theoretical cognitive aspects. The novelty of this study lies in the integration of modern educational philosophical principles with the practical needs of Arabic language proficiency in the digital era. The implications of this research emphasize the importance of reorienting the role of educators and curriculum policies to adopt more performative evaluation instruments. Overall, this shift serves as a catalyst for enhancing the quality of Arabic language learning outcomes to be more competitive and professional.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low understanding of students' maharah qirā'ah in Arabic language learning due to the less than optimal use of visual learning media. This study aims to determine the effect of the use of image media in Arabic language books on the understanding of maharah qirā'ah of grade IX students of MTsN 1 Bandar Lampung. The research method uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design of the pretest-posttest control group design type. The research sample consists of class IX B as the experimental class and IX C as the control class. Data collection techniques use tests, observations, and documentation. Data analysis is carried out through normality tests, homogeneity, Independent Samples T-Test, and N-Gain tests using IBM SPSS 25. The results of the study show a significance value (Sig. 2-tailed) of 0.001 <0.05 which means there is a significant difference between the experimental class and the control class. The average posttest score of the experimental class is 82.58, higher than the control class of 70.13. Furthermore, the N-Gain test results showed that the experimental class obtained a score of 0.69, categorized as quite effective, while the control class obtained a score of 0.42, categorized as less effective. Thus, the use of visual media in Arabic textbooks significantly increased students' understanding of maharah qirā'ah.

Abstract

Literary works, particularly novels, often represent the inner conflicts of characters shaped by social conditions and life experiences. In the novel Bilād Bilā Samāʼ by Wajdi al-Ahdal, the main character Sama’ is portrayed as experiencing psychological pressure due to social, cultural, and familial environments. This study aims to examine the inner psychological pressure of the character Sama’ through a literary psychology approach using the psychoanalytic theory of Sigmund Freud, which includes personality structure, psychological dynamics, and defense mechanisms. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method, with data collection techniques involving reading and note-taking, while the research data consist of words, phrases, sentences, and dialogues in the novel. The results indicate that psychological pressure shapes the character’s personality, making her tend to be reserved, stubborn, indifferent, vigilant, forgiving, and respectful toward her parents. Furthermore, the character Sama’ experiences neurotic and realistic anxiety, which triggers the emergence of defense mechanisms such as aggression, repression, displacement, and rationalization, with repression being the most dominant mechanism. The novelty of this research lies in the application of Freud’s psychoanalytic approach to reveal the character’s inner dynamics, contributing to a deeper understanding of the psychological complexity of characters in contemporary Arabic literature.

Abstract

Animated films are literary works that convey a narrative message through visual and audio elements, and have spread worldwide via the YouTube platform. This study aims to describe the narrative structure and the functions of illocutionary speech acts found in the animated series “Urwah Ibnu Zubair” on the YouTube channel Sukardi Hasanudin. The study employs a pragmatic approach using Searle’s (1979) theory of speech acts. Searle (1979) divides illocutionary speech acts into five types, namely (1) assertive, (2) directive, (3) expressive, (4) commissive, and (5) declarative. This study is a qualitative descriptive study involving a series of written words at the analysis stage and the presentation of the analysis results. The data were obtained by analysing the dialogue between characters using the ‘listen and note’ technique. Based on the results of data collection and classification, 86 illocutionary acts were identified, comprising 25 assertive illocutionary acts, 30 directive acts, 26 expressive acts and 4 commissive acts; no declarative acts were found. The analysis and results show that the dominant speech acts were directive (30), which served to propose, advise, ask questions, and instruct. Additionally, there were equal numbers of assertive and expressive speech acts (26 instances each), which served to state, explain, and report, as well as utterances related to the psychological state of the addressee. Based on this, the language in this animated film functions as a means of conveying information. The language and speech acts in this cartoon also depict the characters, emotions, and moral values of the characters. Thus, the animated film Urwah Ibnu Zubair is not only a medium of entertainment but also an educational tool that reflects Islamic values through the use of communicative and meaningful language.

Abstract

The “Ṣabāḥu al-Khair yā Ikhwānī” program is one of the Arabic language learning programs designed to improve students' speaking skills at Mu'allimin Muhammadiyah Islamic Boarding School, Sawah Dangka. However, some students still experience difficulties in speaking Arabic due to limited vocabulary and lack of language practice. This study aims to describe the implementation of the “Ṣabāḥu al-Khair yā Ikhwānī” Program, explain its role in improving speaking skills, and identify the supporting and inhibiting factors affecting its implementation. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and then analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the program was implemented systematically every morning through vocabulary enrichment, expressions, and short dialogues using the simā‘ī wa al-muḥāfaẓah method, as well as storytelling performances every Saturday. The program contributed to improving students’ speaking skills by enhancing self-confidence, speaking fluency, vocabulary mastery, and the use of Arabic in daily communication. Supporting factors included students’ enthusiasm, institutional support, teacher collaboration, and a conducive language environment. Inhibiting factors included limited time, lack of activity variation, and the limited number of teachers with expertise in teaching speaking skills. Therefore, the implementation of the “Ṣabāḥu al-Khair yā Ikhwānī” program contributed positively to improving the speaking skills of eleventh-grade students at Mu'allimin Muhammadiyah Islamic Boarding School, Sawah Dangka.

Abstract

This research is intended to contribute to finding interesting and significant learning according to the digital era in developing students' Arabic literacy skills through the connectivism approach. By formulating and compiling visual literacy-based teaching materials to support the achievement of maharah kalam teaching objectives to be achieved can run systematically. Qualitative methods as well as Spradley's analysis model were used in this study with 78 correspondents in Islamic University. The results stated that the Connectivism Approach of online learning is seen as a connection between educators and students because it makes it easier to share knowledge with digital teaching materials that support teaching and learning activities so that there is a close relationship through the Internet of things (IoT). Diversity in the connectivism approach views that learning Arabic, especially maharah kalam, feels unique and useful for all groups, this is because the features displayed in the visual literacy digital teaching material media have been made by the lecturer in charge of the course very interesting and easy to access on the website.

Abstract

Digital visual literacy merupakan komponen terpenting dalam pembelajaran era digital, dimana  zaman semakin maju hingga peserta didik dituntut agar mampu menghadapi perkembangan masa depan yang serba digital terlebih pada pembelajaran bahasa arab ianya penting untuk dikuasai sebagai alat komunikasi antar negara, paparan tersebut bertujuan untuk mengembangkan bahan ajar maharah kalam melalui digital book creator dan visual communication platform berbentuk video animasi plotagon  yang lebih komprehensif untuk diterapkan dalam ruang lingkup Pendidikan Islam. Dengan metode pengembangan ADDIE (analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation) dan pendekatan connectiviseme sebagai perspektif baru yang melibatkan jaringan dan kerangka kerja dalam pembelajaran hybrid learning. Teknik pengambilan data berupa angket yang meliputi komponen materi, tampilan, dan pengoperasian/penggunaan. Dari uji kelayakan media digital book creator dan video animasi plotagon oleh ahli media didapatkan persentase sebesar 89,2% dengan kategori sangat layak, uji ahli materi didapatkan persentase sebesar 92,8% dengan kategori sangat layak. Kemudian media pembelajaran tersebut diujicobakan secara luas (lapangan) kepada 28 mahasiswa dengan mendapatkan persentase sebesar 82,12% dalam kategori sangat layak. Rata-rata dari hasil uji ahli dan uji coba tersebut di atas didapatkan hasil persentase sebesar 86,9% bermakna pengembangan bahan ajar book creator berdampak signifikan terhadap pembelajaran maharah kalam. Selain itu dilaksanakan Forum Group Discussion yang menghasilkan sharing dan coaching terhadap mahasiswa yang memiliki kemahiran bidang maharah kalam. ianya sangat interest dan lebih mudah memahami pembelajaran bahasa arab secara profesional dan menarik khususnya maharah kalam.
