Abstract

This study aims to describe and analyze the Arabic language learning strategies implemented at an Integrated Islamic Elementary School (SDIT) in Depok, focusing on the use of games to enhance student motivation. The research problem arises from common challenges in teaching Arabic at the elementary level, such as limited language exposure, difficulties in writing, and an unsupportive learning environment. The novelty of this research lies in the use of gamification as the primary strategy for teaching Arabic, which is linked to students’ Islamic identity, thereby encouraging them to connect the lesson content with daily worship and fostering greater interest in the subject. This study employs a qualitative method, with data collected through in-depth interviews with an Arabic teacher and non-participant observations. The findings reveal that the school applies a self-developed curriculum emphasizing word-by-word translation from the Qur’an and Hadith, as well as practical daily conversations. A prominent learning strategy is the use of gamification, such as competitive group games and word-matching activities, to maintain student enthusiasm. Based on interviews, observations, and student responses, the gamification strategies applied were found to be effective in addressing the primary challenge, students’ low motivation in learning Arabic. This approach can serve as a reference for other schools seeking to develop enjoyable Arabic learning methods that enhance student motivation.

Abstract

The utilization of technology and communicative approaches has evolved to enhance the effectiveness of learning. This study aims to identify forms of innovative methods in Arabic language learning that are relevant and effective over the past ten years in Indonesia. The research method employed is the Systematic Literature Review (SLR). A total of twenty-seven articles from Sinta-indexed journals (levels 2 to 5) published within the last ten years were collected, of which twenty-two articles were deemed relevant. The stages of this study include problem formulation, article collection, article screening, descriptive analysis, and conclusion drawing. Examples of innovative learning methods include 21st-century technology-based learning through the use of various digital applications such as Canva, Quizizz, Kahoot, Duolingo, and others. Based on the literature review conducted, it was found that innovations in Arabic language learning have developed significantly, particularly at the higher education level and through technology-based and creative media approaches. This is evidenced by the structural dimensions and categories identified in the articles, which indicate a significant trend toward 21st-century, integrative, and technology-based approaches in Arabic language instruction.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the importance of developing an active Arabic language environment in pesantren as an effective and sustainable effort to improve students’ oral and written communication skills. The purpose of this research is to reveal a strategic model for building an active Arabic language environment based on community at Pesantren Modern Fathul Majid Kasiman Bojonegoro and to analyze the challenges faced in its implementation. The method used is qualitative research with data collected through in-depth interviews, systematic observations, and document studies, which are then thematically analyzed using the Community Language Learning approach and second language acquisition theory. The results show that the active language environment model, which includes tiered programs, peer mentoring, and thematic activities, effectively shapes a language habitus and enhances students’ motivation and skills. The main obstacles include limited supporting facilities and the diverse backgrounds of students affecting language adaptation. The novelty of this study lies in the integration of community management and collaborative approaches to develop a holistic and adaptive language ecosystem responsive to the needs of today’s learners, with the implication that it can serve as a model for similar educational institutions in sustainably developing second language acquisition.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the alignment of the Arabic language instructional materials for eighth-grade students at Darussalam Islamic Junior High School Pasaman Barat with the curriculum standards outlined in the Decrees of the Minister of Religious Affairs No. 183 and 184 of 2019. These decrees serve as the primary guidelines for implementing the Islamic Religious Education and Arabic Language curriculum, emphasizing holistic competencies and higher-order thinking skills (HOTS). The researcher employed a qualitative approach using content analysis methods. The primary data consisted of the Arabic textbook used at the school, while secondary data were drawn from the official KMA documents. The findings reveal that the teaching materials are generally aligned with the thematic content mandated by the decrees. However, several shortcomings were identified, including the lack of explicit integration of spiritual (Core Competency 1) and social (Core Competency 2) aspects, an imbalanced presentation of the four language skills (listening, speaking, and writing in particular), and an overreliance on LOTS (Lower Order Thinking Skills) in assessment tasks. The study recommends revising and enhancing the teaching materials to better meet the curriculum requirements and students’ learning needs in a comprehensive and modern educational context.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the need to understand the psychological dynamics in the relationships between literary characters, particularly the aspect of emotional intimacy, which is rarely explored in depth in modern Arabic literature. The focus of this study is the novel ar-Rajul al-Laz|i> A>man by Najib Kaylani with the aim of revealing the forms of intimacy of the character Iryan through Robert J. Sternberg's Triangular Theory of Love approach, with an emphasis on the intimacy component. This research uses a qualitative method based on literature study, with the main data source being quotations in the novel that are relevant to indicators of intimacy. The results show that Iryan's intimacy is contextual: in family relationships, he expresses care, mutual understanding, and appreciation; in friendships, he shows emotional support, honest communication, and a desire to improve the well-being of loved ones; while in relationships with his partner (wife), intimacy is present in the form of intimate communication, empathy, and respect. These findings confirm that intimacy in the novel is not merely based on romantic affection, but is closely related to the values of struggle, spirituality, and ideological similarities. The implications of this study confirm that the analysis of modern Arabic literature can be enriched through the perspective of the psychology of love, thus opening up a wider interdisciplinary field of study. Furthermore, this research contributes to understanding the representation of intimacy in literary characters as a reflection of the psychological complexity of humans that is relevant to real life.

Abstract

Learning Arabic for children with dyslexia requires a special method tailored to their needs. One effective method is the Reading Without Spelling Method (MTM), which introduces children directly to syllables without the need to spell out individual letters. This study aims to reveal the contribution of applying the Reading Without Spelling Method (MTM) in teaching Arabic to students with dyslexia and to identify the challenges faced in its implementation. The research is based on library study with a descriptive qualitative approach, drawing on various sources such as journals, books, and online articles, and analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s model through data presentation, reduction, and verification. The findings reveal that the Reading Without Spelling Method helps reduce cognitive load, boost self-confidence, and accelerate Arabic vocabulary acquisition. Nevertheless, challenges remain in its implementation, including the lack of specialized learning materials and insufficient teacher training. Overall, the Reading Without Spelling Method represents an inclusive and promising approach to supporting Arabic language learning for children with dyslexia, provided it is supported by qualified teachers and appropriate learning resources.

Abstract

The development of the Arabic language today is strongly influenced by the social dynamics of its speakers. Globalization, the rapid flow of information, digital technology, population mobility, language policy, and education systems have all contributed to changes in vocabulary, dialect variation, and the functional use of Arabic across various domains. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method with a sociolinguistic approach through library research based on academic literature from the past ten years. Content analysis was used to identify, classify, and interpret data related to the influence of social factors on the development of the Arabic language. The findings show that social media has produced new terms such as taṭbīq (application), mutābi‘ūn (followers), i‘jāb (like), and musyārakah (share); education maintains the use of Arabic fusha through curricula and academic terminology such as al-ta‘allum al-iliktrūnī (e-learning) and al-faṣl al-iftiṛāḍī (virtual classroom); migration generates diaspora dialects and code-mixing, such as blends of Arabic with French or local Asian languages; language policy supports the preservation of fusha through standardized terminology such as ḥāsūb (computer); and economic and cultural globalization drives the adoption of new expressions such as al-tijārah al-‘ālamiyyah (global trade) and al-siyāḥah al-iliktrūniyyah (e-tourism). These findings affirm that social factors not only shape linguistic adaptation, but also sustain the vitality of Arabic in educational, religious, popular culture, and global communication contexts.

Abstract

The suitability of the curriculum in Arabic language learning is currently very much needed to achieve learning goals, however, Arabic language learning based on the current independent curriculum still has difficulties and is not in accordance with the goals of the curriculum that should be. This study aims to analyze the implications of the Merdeka Curriculum in Arabic language learning using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach. The Merdeka Curriculum, implemented in Indonesia since 2022, seeks to enhance teachers’ autonomy and students’ active participation in learning. However, its implementation in Arabic language education presents both opportunities and challenges. This study systematically reviews literature from 2021–2025, sourced from Google Scholar and Semantic Scholar, to identify trends, benefits, and challenges associated with the curriculum’s application. The findings indicate that the Merdeka Curriculum fosters student-centered learning, increases motivation, and promotes a contextual learning approach. Nevertheless, challenges include teachers’ adaptation difficulties, lack of sufficient training, and students’ struggles in mastering Arabic under the new system. This study provides valuable insights for educators and policymakers in refining the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum for Arabic language learning.

Abstract

The development of social media has provided new opportunities for Arabic language learning, one of which is through the Instagram account @ashab.lugha. This study aims to analyze the content of Anashir Lugha displayed by this account, focusing on three main aspects: morphology (shorf), syntax (nahwu), and phonology (aswat). This research used a descriptive qualitative method with a case study approach, while data was obtained through documentation of posts in the form of feeds, reels, and Instagram stories relevant to Arabic language material. The results show that shorf content is presented by displaying changes in word form and variations in wazan in an easy-to-understand manner; nahwu content is the most dominant material, with explanations of i'rab, sentence structure, and word function; while aswat content focuses on practicing pronunciation of letters that sound similar but have different meanings. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the @ashab.lugha account is able to present Arabic language structure material concisely, visually, and interactively, thus meeting the needs of digital learners and has the potential to become a non-formal learning medium that supports the formal learning process.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the types of figures of speech used in the poem "Uhibuki Anti" by Nader Haddad. By identifying the stylistic aspects of this poem, readers can understand how language can create beauty and emotional depth, so this poem is important to study. The method used in this study is qualitative, with a literature study approach. The main data source is the poem Uhibuki Anti itself, while secondary data sources are in the form of articles or writings relevant to the topic of discussion. The results of the study show that in the poem there are various types of figures of speech. First, the figure of speech comparison consisting of 4 figures of speech simile, 9 figures of speech personification, 1 figure of speech depersonification, 1 figure of speech synesthesia, and 1 figure of speech symbolic. Second, the figure of speech affirmation consisting of 8 figures of speech anaphora, 5 figures of speech mesodiplosis, and 1 figure of speech pleonasm. Third, the figures of speech of opposition consist of 1 litotes figure of speech and 3 apostrophes figures of speech. This research provides a new picture regarding the use of figures of speech in poetry, as well as providing an understanding of how contemporary figures of speech reflect new sensibilities (modern romance, identity), which differ from the conventions of classical poetry.
