Abstract

The main problem of this study is the presence of errors related to nahwu in the Arabic language textbook used by twelfth-grade students at MAN 2 Payakumbuh. This topic was chosen due to the importance of nahwu accuracy, as it significantly affects students’ understanding, particularly in terms of tarkīb and i‘rāb. This study aims to identify the types of nahwu errors found in the textbook, focusing on two main aspects: tarkīb and i‘rāb, and to analyze the factors contributing to these errors. The research employs a library research design with a qualitative approach, using content analysis techniques on sentences and language examples presented in the textbook. The findings indicate two major categories of nahwu errors, namely tarkīb errors and i‘rāb errors. A total of 13 errors were identified in the tarkīb aspect and 11 errors in the i‘rāb aspect. These errors are likely influenced by Indonesian language interference and the inaccurate application of nahwu rules. The study concludes that revisions and improvements to the nahwu content are necessary to ensure conformity with the rules of tandard Arabic (fuṣḥā).

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of Arabic language learning using modules based on Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) in enhancing the higher-order thinking abilities of fifth-grade students at MIN 2 Palembang. Employing a mixed-methods approach with a sequential explanatory design, the research began with the collection and analysis of quantitative data through pre-tests and post-tests, followed by qualitative data obtained from interviews, observations, and documentation. The findings indicate that prior to the implementation of the HOTS-based module, learning was still conventional and teacher-centered, which limited the development of students' critical and creative thinking skills. After the module was implemented, there was a notable increase in the average learning outcomes, from 74.83 to 80.17. Furthermore, interviews with teachers and students confirmed that this approach was more engaging, challenging, and encouraged active cognitive involvement. Therefore, Arabic language learning based on HOTS has proven effective in improving both student achievement and higher-order thinking skills. This research contributes to the development of innovative teaching strategies in madrasahs, particularly in strengthening higher-order thinking literacy within Arabic language education.

Abstract

Speaking proficiency in Arabic is a fundamental language skill that supports students’ religious comprehension, particularly within the context of Islamic schools (madrasah). However, the limited frequency of speaking practice, low levels of student self-confidence, and the use of less interactive teaching methods present significant barriers to the development of this competency. In response to these challenges, this study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the windows shopping learning model in enhancing the Arabic speaking skills of eighth-grade students at MTs Pondok Pesantren Nurul Huda, Indragiri Hulu. Employing a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design, data were collected through pre- and post-tests and analyzed using a t-test and N-Gain calculation. The findings reveal that the implementation of the windows shopping model has a significant positive effect on improving students' Arabic speaking abilities. This model effectively fosters an active and communicative learning environment through independent exploration, peer dialogue, and oral presentation, all of which encourage direct student engagement. The novelty of this study lies in the application of the windows shopping model within the Arabic language learning contextan area where its use has previously been more common in social studies instruction. This model holds promise as a reference for madrasah curriculum development policies focused on active learning and offers an alternative strategy for enhancing students’ oral communication skills in a contextual, participatory, and meaningful manner.

Abstract

Learning Arabic grammar often presents a significant challenge for students, necessitating innovative strategies to enhance comprehension. This research aims to analyze the comparative impact and simultaneous contribution of the Think-Pair-Share cooperative learning type and project-based learning on improving students' understanding of Arabic grammar. The research population comprised all students at STAI Syubbanul Wathon Magelang, with a random sample of 100 students selected. Research data were collected using questionnaires to measure the implementation of the learning methods and test results to evaluate Arabic grammar comprehension. Data analysis was conducted using multiple linear regression. The findings indicate that both methods, Think-Pair-Share and project-based learning, significantly contributed to the enhancement of students' Arabic grammar comprehension. Simultaneously, both methods had a positive and significant impact on grammar understanding. The implications of this study include recommendations to synergistically integrate these two learning strategies into the Arabic language curriculum and teaching practices to optimize learning outcomes. The novelty of this research lies in its simultaneous and comparative analysis of the impact of both methods on Arabic grammar comprehension within the context of Islamic higher education.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the implementation of the bandongan method in tarjamah (translation) learning at Majelis Nururrahmah in Medan, North Sumatra. Tarjamah learning plays an important role in understanding Arabic religious texts, especially in non-formal educational settings such as majelis taklim. The bandongan method used focuses on direct reading and explanation of texts by the ustadzah (female teacher) to the congregation. This study employs a qualitative approach using participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation techniques. The results show that this method can enhance the congregation’s understanding of classical Arabic texts, particularly through the study of Nashoihud Diniyah and Syarah Ainiyah. Although it is one-directional and lacks active participation, the repetition of material and contextual explanations reinforce comprehension of the meaning and structure of the texts. The uniqueness of this study lies in the application of the bandongan method in Arabic language learning within a non-formal environmentan area that has rarely been scientifically examined. The findings indicate that the bandongan method has the potential to become an alternative strategy in implementing tarjamah learning in non-formal educational institutions.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the characteristics of Arabic language instruction for specific purposes (ASP), assessed  the applicability of Noam Chomsky’s generative grammar theory within this context, and explore the major challenges faced in both Arab and non-Arab environments. The method employed in this study is a qualitative-descriptive with an inductive approach, the study is grounded in a literature review and critical analysis of instructional materials. The findings reveal that ASP instruction is marked by needs-based analysis, a strong emphasis on communicative competence, methodical flexibility, and specialized lexical-syntactic integration. Chomsky’s theory is shown to align with the ASP framework, as it promotes sentence generation capabilities over rote memorization. Nevertheless, the implementation faces multiple obstacles, including the lack of thematic textbooks, insufficient teacher training, diglossia, and the tendency to neglect cultural context in curriculum design. The study concluded the recommendations to develop Arabic language programs that are more responsive, context-driven, and linguistically sound.

Abstract

Arabic is the second most important foreign language in Indonesia after English. Arabic is generally taught in madrasahs and pesantrens, so its coverage is not as widespread as English, which is taught in almost all schools. Furthermore, Arabic is a key language for understanding Islamic teachings. Therefore, a good mastery of vocabulary is essential for students to communicate fluently and comprehend texts effectively. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the Card Sort method in improving the Arabic vocabulary mastery of seventh-grade students at SMP Islam Al-Ulum Terpadu Medan on the topic of alwān (colors). The study uses a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design. The results show that, first, the Card Sort method is effective in enhancing students’ vocabulary mastery on the material of alwān. Second, the effectiveness of the Card Sort method is evident from the average pretest score of 57.12 and the average posttest score of 85.52, with an n-Gain value of 82.83%, indicating a very good improvement. These findings confirm that the Card Sort method can be an effective approach in Arabic language learning, particularly in improving students’ Arabic vocabulary mastery

Abstract

An important aspect to consider in teaching and learning Arabic for non-native speakers is al-asalib al-insha’iyyah al-talabiyyah, as this method helps both teachers and learners facilitate Arabic language acquisition and understanding of the Qur’an. This study aims to identify the Qur’anic verses that contain al-asalib al-insha’iyyah al-talabiyyah in Surat Ibrahim. The researcher used a qualitative descriptive-analytical method by studying and collecting data from available library resources such as tafsir books and rhetoric (balaghah) literature, then gathering the relevant data. The study found the following results: al-asalib al-insha’iyyah al-talabiyyah appeared in 37 instances in Surat Ibrahim. The uslub al-amr appeared in verses 5, 6, 10, 22, 30, 31, 35, 37, 40, and 44. The uslub al-istifham appeared in verses 9, 10, 12, 19, 21, 24, 28, and 44. The uslub al-nahy appeared in verses 22 and 42. The uslub al- appeared in verses 35, 36, 37, 38, 40, 41, and 44. Meanwhile, the uslub al-tamanni was not found in Surat Ibrahim. The utilization of al-asalib al-insha’iyyah al-talabiyyah in Surat Ibrahim for teaching Arabic to non-native speakers can be applied by incorporating them into exercises such as questions, dialogues, texts, sentence formation using the targeted styles, and other training activities.
