Abstract

The management function in guidance and counseling must be carried out carefully, including in the development of guidance and counseling materials for students. The aim of this research is to provide an overview of the management function in developing guidance and counseling materials in one of the schools in Tasikmalaya, Indonesia. This research is qualitative in nature, the respondents of this research are school counselors in junior high school and vocational high schools with a case study design, data collection through semi-structured interviews and data analysis in the form of data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The results of this research indicate that the application of management functions in the development of guidance and counseling materials is very important to ensure the effectiveness of guidance and counseling programs in schools. The challenges felt by respondents were limited facilities, time allocation and varying roles between teaching other subjects and guidance and counseling. The implementation of management functions cannot be separated from the support and involvement of school officials, so that in overcoming these challenges, support from school officials is considered important in providing guidance and counseling materials.

Abstract

Improving public speaking skills is necessary to help students build self-confidence, enhance communication skills, and support their education and careers. This research uses a qualitative method where the researcher is the key instrument, with purposive sampling of data sources and triangulation techniques for data collection. The study finds that: (1) The use of Virtual Reality (VR) during individual counseling for middle school students significantly aids in improving public speaking skills, as evidenced by the change from 0% in initial observations of public speaking skills before VR counseling to 75% after VR counseling, and from 8.3% to 66.6% in the second client. (2) VR counseling impacts students by boosting their public speaking skills and encouraging them to improve academically and non-academically. (3) VR counseling proves to enhance public speaking abilities in terms of verbal communication, vocal control, and visual expression, with students demonstrating clearer language and structure, better volume regulation, and improved self-expression in public.

Abstract

The main purpose of this study is to find out how students perceive the learning media provided during lectures. Learning media is one of the most important tools in learning. Less interesting learning media will make students not interested in learning. This research takes the form of a qualitative case study using face-to-face interviews and administering questionnaires with participants, as data collection tools. The subjects of the research are 67 students in semesters V and VII in the Guidance and Counseling Study Program. The sampling technique used is purposive sampling. The results of the study show that students' perception of the media that has been used in the RIASEC-based interest, talent and character mapping course is a learning media that is not interesting, less varied, tends to be boring, such as the use of PowerPoint. Students' perception of the media that should be used for the course is a learning medium that can attract students' interest in learning, such as the use of multimethod and interactive multimedia, e-books that contain examples of the application of important and more detailed materials.

Abstract

There are numerous factors that drive adolescents to smoke, one of which is the presence of negative or irrational thoughts related to smoking behavior itself. Such thoughts include beliefs that smoking makes them appear more masculine, more accepted within their social circles, among other irrational perceptions. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) using cognitive restructuring techniques in a group setting to reduce smoking frequency in adolescents by addressing their irrational thought patterns. A quantitative experimental method was employed, using a pretest-posttest control group design. A total of 8 students were randomly assigned to two groups. Data analysis was conducted using parametric statistical tests, specifically the independent sample t-test and the correlated/paired sample t-test. The results indicate that cognitive restructuring techniques applied in group setting significantly reduce smoking behavior among adolescents.

Abstract

Resilience and post-traumatic growth play crucial roles in the development of adolescents, particularly when they encounter diverse obstacles in life. The objective of this study is to investigate the impact of religious practices on resilience and experience personal growth after experiencing trauma in adolescents. This research employs a quantitative methodology grounded on a positivist framework. Data were gathered using a simple random sampling method including 218 Muslim teenagers in Yogyakarta, Indonesia who had encountered stressful incidents in the preceding year. Statistical analysis was employed to examine the correlation between variables. This research illustrates that religious practices may serve as a substantial source of resilience for teenagers in managing trauma. Engagement in religious activities enhances resilience and fosters healthy development. These findings indicate the need for the amalgamation of spiritual support and psychological therapies to facilitate teenage rehabilitation.

Abstract

Single mother teachers face great challenges in carrying out dual roles as educators and caregivers, while also handling household chores. This pressure often affects their emotional stability, so that single mother teachers often vent their anger on those around them. The purpose of this research was to determine the description and factors causing single-mother teachers' emotional regulation. Used a qualitative research method with a phenomenological study approach. Used semi-structured interviews and non-participant observation as a data collection method. The subjects in the research were taken using purposive sampling techniques and snowball sampling techniques. The subjects of the research were five single mother teachers aged 30-45 years, working as elementary school teachers (SD) and having children aged 2-13 years. Analysis of the research used content analysis data. The results showed that single mother teacher's emotional regulation involved the process of monitoring, then evaluating, modifying, and re-evaluating emotions because the subjects still had difficulty finding the right regulation strategy, so other factors were needed such as social support, professionalism, religiosity, reducing multitasking, and social comparison. Further research is recommended to conduct longer observations of subject interactions both at school and at home, more in-depth interviews, increase the number of subjects, expand the location and criteria of the subjects, such as single mother teachers at the junior high or high school level who teach at junior high or high school.

Abstract

This study explored the role of third-party interference in achieving marital stability among married adults, examining both its positive and negative impacts. The study identified key sources of third-party involvement, including family members, friends, and professional counsellors, and evaluated how these parties influence marital relationships resulting to stability in marriages. The findings suggested that while third-party interference may provide essential support during crises periods, such as financial difficulties or health challenges, it could also create significant challenges. These include the erosion of the couple's autonomy, increased conflict, and dependence on external sources for advice. Moreover, biased interference from family members or friends could lead to division within the marriage, causing either or both partners to feel unsupported. The research further explored the strategies for managing third-party interference, highlighting the importance of open communication between spouses, setting boundaries, and seeking professional counselling when necessary. A united front and a clear understanding of the couple’s priorities are also crucial in preventing external involvement from destabilizing the marital relationship. The study concluded that while third-party interference is often inevitable especially in a marital bliss, the way and manner in which it is managed greatly determines its impact on the stability of such homes. By employing effective strategies, couples could navigate external pressures and maintain a strong, stable relationship. The implication of this study is that it would most likely provide valuable insights for married adults, relationship/marriage counsellors, and family therapists who work to promote marital stability in the face of external interferences or aggression.
