Abstract

Determine effect of a combination of turmeric rhizome extract (Curcuma longa L.) also temulawak (Curcuma xanthorrhiza R.) on the mortality of Spodoptera litura F.. The experiment used a CRD with five treatment concentrations (0%, 35%, 40%, 45%, and 50%), each replicated five times. Mortality data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA followed by LSD test. Combination of turmeric and temulawak extracts significantly affected armyworm mortality, with the highest mortality rate of 80% observed at a 50% concentration. These findings suggest that plant-based pesticides derived from turmeric and temulawak have potential as an eco-friendly pest control alternative.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan menulis siswa dalam teks deskriptif dengan menggunakan teknik dictogloss di kelas tujuh SMP Hosana Medan. Penelitian ini menggunakan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) yang dilakukan dalam dua siklus, yang terdiri dari perencanaan, tindakan, observasi, dan refleksi. Data dikumpulkan menggunakan metode kuantitatif dan kualitatif, termasuk tes, wawancara, dan observasi kelas. Temuan kuantitatif menunjukkan adanya peningkatan signifikan dalam pencapaian menulis siswa. Pada pra-siklus, hanya 10 siswa (29%) yang mencapai tingkat penguasaan, sementara pada siklus I jumlahnya meningkat menjadi 18 siswa (53%). Pada siklus II, 28 siswa (80%) berhasil memenuhi Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimal (KKM), yang menunjukkan kemajuan yang signifikan. Selain itu, data kualitatif mengungkapkan bahwa suasana belajar menjadi lebih interaktif, dan siswa lebih antusias serta terlibat dalam aktivitas menulis. Berdasarkan hasil ini, dapat disimpulkan bahwa Teknik Dictogloss efektif dalam meningkatkan kemampuan menulis siswa pada teks deskriptif.

Abstract

This study aims to explore andtransform the tradition of Terbangan Palembang, a form oftraditional religious music in South Sumatra, into the realm of electronic music ordigital music. This art form, which is usually performed in religious and social contexts usingTerbangan instruments, has distinctive rhythmic and vocal patterns. This studyuses an artistic practice approach with a creative method that includesthe stages of traditional sound exploration, digital manipulation, and electronic music composition. The collected traditional sounds are then manipulatedusing digital techniques such as sampling, looping, time-stretching, andthe addition of sound effects in digital audio workstation (DAW) software.The goal is to create new electronic music compositions that still containelements of the Terbangan identity but in a more contemporary andcontextual package in line with the times. The resulting work not only servesas a form of artistic expression, but also as a medium for the preservation andreactualization of local culture through a technological approach. This study showsthat local musical traditions can be creatively transformed without losingtheir spiritual and aesthetic value. In addition, tradition-based creationopens up space for the younger generation to recognize, appreciate, anddevelop the culture of their ancestors in a format that is more relevant to the digital age.

Abstract

This study discusses the forms of language politeness strategies that appear in the discourse of the Governor of DKI Jakarta, Pramono Anung Wibowo, regarding the role of santri as guardians of national morality as published on Antaranews.com. This study uses a pragmatic approach with Brown and Levinson's (1987) politeness theory, which highlights four main strategies, namely positive politeness, negative politeness, bald on record, and off record. This research was conducted using a qualitative descriptive method through analysis of data in the form of excerpts from Pramono's statements in news texts and the context of his speech. The results of the analysis show that Pramono mostly uses positive and negative politeness strategies to build an image as a polite leader who respects and is close to the santri community. The use of these strategies demonstrates Pramono's efforts to strengthen social relations between the government and the santri community, while also emphasizing Islamic ethical and moral values in public communication. Thus, the discourse presented by Pramono reflects ethical political communication practices rooted in politeness and national character.

Abstract

Menerapkan langkah-langkah untuk meningkatkan pemahaman mendengarkan siswa kelas sebelas di SMKS Budi Agung Medan adalah tujuan dari penelitian ini. Dua siklus penelitian tindakan kelas (PTK) yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah perencanaan, pelaksanaan, pengamatan, dan refleksi. Observasi, wawancara, catatan lapangan, dokumentasi, dan tes mendengarkan digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data. Metode kuantitatif dan kualitatif digunakan dalam analisis untuk mengukur seberapa banyak pemahaman mendengarkan siswa telah meningkat. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa pemahaman mendengarkan siswa sangat ditingkatkan oleh teknik yang mereka gunakan saat mendengarkan lagu bahasa Inggris. Skor rata-rata naik dari 56,47 pada pra-tes ke siklus berikutnya. Menurut penelitian ini, pemahaman mendengarkan siswa meningkat ketika mereka mampu mengatur pengetahuan secara metodis melalui lagu-lagu bahasa Inggris. Untuk lebih meningkatkan pemahaman siswa, penelitian ini menyarankan agar mereka mendengarkan lagu bahasa Inggris tambahan selama kursus mendengarkan.

Abstract

The Multiple Intelligences Strategy will be used in this project to help seventh-grade students at SMP Swasta Harvard Medan enhance their reading comprehension. A Classroom Action Research (CAR) design was used in the study, and it was conducted in two cycles with four steps each: planning, action, observation, and reflection. The study's subjects comprised a number of students who had trouble comprehending descriptive writings, especially when it came to recognizing the key concepts and supporting elements.Observation sheets, interviews, field notes, documentation, and reading comprehension assessments were used to gather data. The results of classroom observations and the evaluation of students' performance through pre-test and post-test evaluations were the main focus of the qualitative and quantitative methodologies used to examine the data. The results showed that after using the Multiple Intelligences Strategy, students' reading comprehension significantly improved. The findings showed that by leveraging the different forms of intelligence that each learner possesses, this approach successfully assisted students in understanding descriptive texts. In order to improve students' interest, understanding, and learning outcomes, the study suggests using this method more widely in reading education.

Abstract

This study looks at how seventh-grade pupils at SMP PAB 2 Helvetia's reading comprehension abilities are affected by the Kumon English as a Foreign Language (EFL) approach. 72 students were split into two groups using a quasi-experimental design: the experimental group (Kumon EFL) and the control group (traditional technique). Pre- and post-tests testing comprehension of key concepts, specifics, and text structure were used to gather data. The instrument demonstrated great reliability (Cronbach's Alpha = 0.838) and good validity (r-table = 0.361). The experimental group showed a considerable improvement (60.53 to 90.53) compared to the control group (61.20 to 76.80), with a t-test significance of 0.000 (p < 0.05), according to the results. The study concludes that the Kumon EFL method effectively enhances students’ reading comprehension, especially in narrative texts, and serves as an innovative learning alternative.

Abstract

This study aims to improve students' vocabulary mastery using the smile game at Hosana Private Junior High School, Medan. This study uses the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method, conducted in two cycles: cycle 1 and cycle 2, consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. Data were collected using observation sheets, interviews, and documentation. This analysis uses qualitative and quantitative analysis in student learning methods regarding the smile game method. The research subjects involved 25 eighth-grade junior high school students. The results showed that in the student learning test (pre- test), the average score obtained was 68.6. Then, in cycle I, the average score was 70.4, in cycle II, the average score was 76.4, and in the post-test, the average score was 80. The study concluded that students experienced significant improvement in the implementation of the Smile Game learning model from the initial to the final exam.

Abstract

This study was conducted to find out how the use of the song "Let It Go" can improve the English vocabulary mastery of seventh grade students of SMP PAB 2 Helvetia.The problem revolves around the students’ low mastery of the English language which resulted from boring teaching methods and students’ disinterest in learning. This study was conducted in the form of Classroom Action Research (CAR) with two cycles. Each cycle consists of planning, implementation, and observation, and reflection. For the collection of data, several techniques were used: vocabulary tests (pre-test, post-test cycle I, post-test cycle II), observation, interviews, and documentation. Given the results, students seemed to master the vocabulary quite well. Before the pre-test for cycle I, students achieved an average score of 61.25. Scores improved to 78.33 in the post-test for cycle I, then to 92.27 in the post-test for cycle II. The average score of students showing improvement also increased. In the pre-test, learning completeness scores increased from 33.33% in cycle I to 75% during cycle II, and to 94.44%. The results of this study exemplify the "Let It Go" approach and its effectiveness in helping students master vocabulary. Lessons were designed to provide an enjoyable learning environment, and students were motivated to understand the meanings of words in the songs and the contextual relevance of the lyrics.

Abstract

This study was done to help eighth-grade students at SMP PAB 2 Helvetia improve their writing skills by using substitution drills that focus on the simple present tense. The research started because many students had trouble making sentences with correct grammar and organizing their thoughts clearly when writing essays.The main purpose of this investigation was to determine whether the application of substitution drills could positively influence students’ writing performance. The subjects of the research were 32 eighth-grade students in the 2025 academic year. Data were collected through writing assessments, observation sheets, and field notes. The results showed that students' writing skills improved a lot after using substitution drills.In the first cycle, 56.25% of students reached the minimum passing standard, and this figure rose to 84.37% in the second cycle. The observed improvement encompassed various components, including grammar accuracy, sentence organization, vocabulary mastery, and textual coherence in essay writing.In conclusion,using substitution drills in teaching the simple present tense helped improve students' ability to write essays. Because of this, it is recommended as a useful and effective way to help students get better at writing English compositions
