Abstract

The objective of this study is to ascertain the underlying factors that precipitate the transition from wet-rice farming to lime farming, as well as to examine the impact of such farming conversions among farmers in Tridana Mulya Village. The study population was comprised of two groups: a group of 31 lime farmers and a group of seven rice farmers. The sampling technique employed was the census method, which entailed the inclusion of the entire population, resulting in a research sample of 38 individuals (31 lime farmers and 7 rice paddy farmers). Data were collected through the use of interview techniques, observation, and documentation of media sources in the form of questionnaires. The variables under investigation are the factors that influence the transfer of farming and the impact of such transfer. The data were analyzed using a descriptive method and an income formula. The results demonstrated that the factors that precipitated the transition from paddy rice farming to lime farming were attributable to a confluence of production, economic, and cultivation-related considerations. The production yield factor of lime farming has demonstrated an increase in production compared to paddy rice farming in Tridana Mulya Village. In terms of economic factors, lime farming has been shown to yield higher profits for farmers than paddy rice farming. Additionally, the cultivation factors associated with lime farming are considerably more straightforward, as the land only requires processing once, due to the fact that lime is a long-term crop, in contrast to paddy rice farming, which is dependent on seasonal conditions. The impact of switching farms includes both economic and environmental consequences. From an economic standpoint, farmers' income may change after switching from paddy rice farming to lime crops. This is because lime crops may yield higher profits than paddy rice, depending on various factors. From an environmental standpoint, the lack of use of chemical fertilizers or pesticides in lime farming may reduce the impact on the environment. This is in contrast to the opposite condition observed in paddy rice farming.

Abstract

The present farmer organizations merely serve as instruments through which select communities or specific groups may procure assistance from the government. Consequently, the establishment of farmer groups has deviated from its initial objective, which was to enhance the well-being of the farming community through agricultural development. The objective of this study is to ascertain the impact of group communication on the dynamics of paddy rice farmer groups in Labulu-bulu Village, Parigi District, Muna Regency. The study population comprised 324 wet-rice farmers. The sample size was determined using the Slovin formula with a margin of error of 15%, resulting in a sample of 39 respondents for this study. The sampling method employed was the Proportional Stratified Random Sampling technique. The data were collected using survey and interview methods guided by questionnaires. The independent variables of this study include group communication (X) and farmer group dynamics (Y). The collected data is then subjected to a descriptive and quantitative analysis. A descriptive analysis was conducted using the interval formula, and a linear regression analysis was performed with the assistance of SPSS software version 16. The findings indicated that the communication patterns exhibited by paddy rice farmer groups in Labulu-Bulu Village were classified as high-intensity, characterized by a strong sense of solidarity, frequent interactions, and a high level of motivation. The dynamics of paddy rice farmer groups are in the high or dynamic category based on group objectives, group structure, task function, and group effectiveness. The findings of this study demonstrate that group communication exerts a substantial influence (p < 0.05) on the dynamics of rice paddy farmer groups. Accordingly, it can be concluded that group communication on indicators of solidarity, communication intensity, communicative action, and communication motivation will affect group dynamics. The aforementioned group dynamics include indicators of group objectives, group structure, task function, and group effectiveness.

Abstract

Community participation is one of the most critical aspects of community development and empowerment. The high or low level of community participation is seen by the community's desire and the people's support to bear costs or labor in implementing government development projects. This study aims to describe and analyze the concept of andragogy and participatory implementation, especially in the community development process. The study employed a qualitative approach with a literature review data collection technique. The results showed that the stages in community participation cover decision-making, planning, implementation, and the evaluation or monitoring of activities. In addition, the forms of community participation are tangible (natural) and abstract (not actual). The constraints of community participation can be seen from internal and external factors.

Abstract

The agricultural sector is a significant contributor to the regional and national economies, particularly in South Konawe Regency, which boasts extensive agricultural land and a prominent maize production industry. However, the efficacy of maize production is frequently constrained by deficiencies in knowledge and suboptimal agricultural practices. One of the most crucial endeavors in the field of agricultural development is the provision of extension services, which are designed to enhance the knowledge and expertise of farmers, thereby facilitating enhanced agricultural productivity and quality. The objective of this study is to examine the level of participation of maize farmers in Alebo Village in agricultural extension activities. The population under investigation consisted of all corn farmers, amounting to 164 families. This figure was obtained through the application of simple random sampling to a population of 15% (25 families), and the resulting data was subjected to quantitative analysis. The findings revealed that farmer involvement in corn farming extension activities in Alebo Village, Konda Subdistrict, can be classified into distinct phases. These include participation in planning activities, attendance, active engagement in extension activities, and evaluation of agricultural extension activities. Farmer participation in agricultural extension planning activities is classified as low. The participation of respondents in agricultural extension activities is classified as attendance. The participation of corn farmers in each extension activity is classified as active (participating). The participation of corn farmers in their activeness is also classified as active (participating). Finally, the participation of farmers in the evaluation of extension tends to accept the results of extension activities that they have done. Nevertheless, farmers perceive the presence of agricultural extension workers to be highly beneficial for the implementation of their maize farming practices.

Abstract

This paper aims to determine the relationship between the performance of agricultural extension workers and the capacity of farmers in rice farming in Wonua Hoa Village, Lambuya District, Konawe Regency. This research is also motivated by the number of rice farmers in each group as many as 125 farmers in 2023, for the number of farmer groups themselves as many as 5 rice farmer groups. This number was obtained from data from the Lambuya District Agricultural Extension Center. In addition, the performance of the Lambuya BPP is also suspected of having a relationship with the number of rice farmers in the area. Therefore, fellow farmers in improving their farming efforts are very dependent on the performance of Agricultural Extension Workers who directly provide training to farmers on their farms. So that the total respondents used in this study were 56 people. This study used quantitative analysis methods, namely surveys, interviews, library methods using questionnaires and documentation.
