Abstract

The objective of this study is to ascertain the role of extension workers in enhancing cashew production and to identify the challenges they encounter in the implementation of agricultural extension in Lakudo Village, Lakudo District, Central Buton Regency. The study population consisted of all cashew farmers in Lakudo Village. The sample size was calculated using the Slovin formula with a 10% margin of error, resulting in a sample of 46 cashew farmers. The research sample was selected through the use of the simple random sampling method. This research employs a quantitative data approach. The data were collected via survey, interview, and documentation methods, with the media in the form of questionnaires or interviews. The variables of this study include the role of agricultural extension agents, constraints on agricultural extension agents, and increased cashew production. In the course of data processing, the data were subjected to interval classification analysis. The findings indicate that the role of agricultural extension officers in Lakudo Village, Lakudo District, Central Buton Regency has been effectively fulfilled, particularly in terms of their educational responsibilities. However, there is still room for improvement in the implementation of their role as leaders and advisors. In order to achieve increased cashew production, farmers must intensify their efforts or adopt more rigorous approaches to maintenance and harvesting. This will enable them to obtain more favourable production outcomes. Furthermore, post-harvest handling must be maintained and can be enhanced. There are no significant impediments to extension activities, in terms of distance, farmer participation, or facilities and infrastructure.

Abstract

The objective of this study is twofold: firstly, to ascertain the preferences of coconut farmers with regard to processed coconut products; and secondly, to investigate the coconut processing process in Kancinaa Village. The population under investigation in this study consisted of all coconut farmers in Kancinaa Village. The informants were selected using the purposive method, with several considerations taken into account, including the number of informants in the study, which was nine coconut farmers. This research employs a qualitative data collection methodology. In order to collect the necessary data, the researchers employed a combination of observation and semi-structured interviews, with the use of interview guides to facilitate the process. The present study focuses on the preferences of farmers with regard to processed coconut products. The research data were analyzed qualitatively using the Miles and Huberman model, which consists of three stages: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the predominant preference among coconut farmers in Kancinaa Village for processed coconut products is wet processing, which results in the production of cooking oil. Furthermore, dry processing and selling by the log are alternative options for coconut farmers when selecting a business model. The preference of farmers in Kancinaa Village in choosing coconut processing is influenced by a number of factors, including social, psychological, and economic considerations. Among these three factors, economic factors are the most significant, including production costs, selling prices, and market demand. Coconut processing in Kancinaa Village can be classified into three main categories: wet processing, which results in cooking oil products; dry processing, which results in fried coconut products; and selling coconuts in the form of logs or without processing.

Abstract

Along with population growth, the need for food such as rice will continue to increase, which has an impact on the amount of per capita consumption. Therefore, every component that affects the level of production is very important to consider carefully. In 2016, the Ministry of Agriculture provided assistance to rice plant transplanter machines. Talkandang is one of the villages that received the machine. However, the use of the planting machine is still low or less than optimal in practice. This is due to the fact that farmers lack knowledge about the right way to sow the dapog system to prepare rice seeds to be planted using the planting machine. The purpose of this study was to determine the impact of extension on increasing farmer knowledge, attitudes, and skills. The method used in the study was a quantitative method and was analyzed descriptively using SPSS. The results showed that a) increased knowledge occurred before and after extension; Then in the skill aspect, it was found that 89% of the test results from the extension targets were in the skilled category. Furthermore, in the attitude aspect, 63% of the extension targets gave a positive response to the material provided.

Abstract

The issues encountered in maize farming activities in Komba-Komba Village can be attributed to several factors. Firstly, the knowledge and expertise of farmers in this area remain limited. Secondly, the role of farmer groups is not yet fully realised. Thirdly, the utilisation of production resources, including seeds, fertilisers and pesticides, is not optimised. The objective of this study was to ascertain the utilisation of production facilities and the function of farmer groups in maize farming activities in Komba-Komba Village, Kabangka Subdistrict, Muna Regency. The research informants were selected purposefully, with specific criteria in mind. Consequently, the research informants totaled 13 individuals, comprising farmer group administrators, specifically two farmer group leaders, two secretaries, two treasurers, six farmer group members, and the village head. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis using interview guides. This study focuses on the utilization of production facilities and the role of farmer groups in maize farming. The research employs a qualitative descriptive analysis approach to data analysis, comprising three stages: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that farmer groups in Komba-Komba Village serve as a conduit for collaboration in maize farming activities. This is evidenced by the presence of groups that engage in joint efforts between the farmer group leaders and members during the farming process. Furthermore, the role of farmer groups has not been as effective as the function of farmer groups. In terms of production facilities, farmers in Komba-Komba Village provide these for maize farming activities, including seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides, using their own capital.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to assess the extent to which the role of agricultural extension workers contributes to increasing rice production in Keramasan and Karya Jaya villages, Palembang City. The primary focus of this study is on the significance of the presence of extension workers as a liaison between government policies and farming actors, particularly in enhancing the productivity of strategic food commodities such as rice. The adopted methodology is descriptive quantitative, employing a questionnaire administered to 30 farmers as a data collection instrument. These farmers were selected through a purposive sampling method. The effectiveness of the role of extension workers was measured through five main indicators, namely communicators, educators, motivators, facilitators, and dynamists, with the help of a Likert scale. The results obtained from this study indicate that extension workers have a very significant influence on increasing productivity, especially through their facilitator and educator functions. This finding underscores the pivotal role of optimized extension functions in fostering sustainable agricultural development in urban contexts.
