Abstract

The objective of this study is to ascertain the role of agricultural extension workers in rice cultivation. The population of this study is comprised of all rice farmers residing in Tawamelewe Village, constituting a total sample size of 300 individuals. The sample size was determined using the Slovin formula with a margin of error of 15%, resulting in a sample size of 38 people. The sampling process was executed through the utilization of simple random sampling. The data presented herein was collected through a combination of interviews, documentation, and surveys with questionnaires. The independent variables in this study were the role of agricultural extension workers and rice cultivation. The research data was analyzed using two methods: descriptive analysis and inferential analysis. The results of the study indicate that the role of agricultural extension workers in Tawamelewe Village, Uepai District, Konawe Regency, is in the high category, reflecting that extension workers have performed their functions optimally as facilitators, motivators, innovators, and educators. On the other hand, rice cultivation by farmers in the village is in the good category, indicating that all stages of cultivation, from land preparation to harvest and post-harvest, have been carried out appropriately. Through data analysis using the Sperman Rank test, a correlation coefficient value of 1.000 with a significance level of 0.001 was obtained, indicating a very strong and significant relationship between the role of agricultural extension workers and the success of rice cultivation. The perfect correlation between the role of extension workers and the quality of rice cultivation underscores the importance of optimizing the role of agricultural extension workers as the key to the success of a sustainable cultivation system, and provides a scientific basis for strengthening extension institutions at the village level to enhance overall agricultural productivity.

Abstract

Agricultural production facilities play a pivotal role in the field of farming, as they have the capacity to enhance productivity, quality, and efficiency of agricultural land. However, farmers often encounter challenges in acquiring the necessary means of production, including fertilizers, seeds, and pesticides, during the agricultural cycle. This study aims to examine the function of farmer groups in the provision of production facilities in paddy rice farming in Wungkolo Village, South Wawonii District, South Konawe Regency. The selection of informants was conducted using a purposive sampling method. The study's informant pool comprised 10 individuals. Data were collected through in-depth interviews guided by a list of questions related to the subject under study. To bolster the findings, observational and documental methods were employed. The analysis of the collected data was conducted through a descriptive and qualitative approach, encompassing data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results indicated that farmer groups' provision of production facilities has been ineffective. Evidence of this shortcoming is apparent in the inadequate provision of fertilizers and pesticides, both in terms of type and amount, which fall short of meeting farmers' needs. Conversely, farmer groups have demonstrated efficacy in the provision of seeds, as evidenced by the provision of the appropriate type of seeds, sufficient quantities, and the facilitation of this process by the Agriculture Office and Field Agricultural Extension Officers.

Abstract

This study examines the role of social capital in enhancing yellow corn farmer groups in Wakadia Village, Watopute Subdistrict, Muna Regency. Despite abundant natural resources, Indonesia's agricultural sector faces challenges like import dependency, underscoring the need for robust farmer group development to boost productivity and food security. Social capital, encompassing trust, participation, and networks, is pivotal in fostering collaboration and resource access among farmers. The research, involved 66 yellow corn farmers selected via purposive sampling from seven farmer groups in Wakadia, a key corn production hub. Data were collected through surveys, interviews, documentation, and literature reviews, with questionnaires as the primary tool. The study employed class interval analysis to assess social capital and farmer group development, and Spearman rank correlation to evaluate their relationship. Findings indicate strong social capital (87.87%) and well-developed farmer groups (95.45%), driven by active participation, trust in group leadership, and robust networks facilitating access to technology and markets. A significant positive correlation (0.770, p=0.00) exists between social capital and group development, suggesting that higher social capital enhances group progress. Challenges include limited marketing networks, which hinder income optimization. Strengthening social capital through training, expanded partnerships, and improved facilities is recommended to sustain agricultural development.

Abstract

Stunting is a condition of impaired child growth, characterized by an abnormal height for their age. This is generally caused by chronic malnutrition and repeated infections during the early period of life, especially in the first 1,000 days. This condition not only affects the physical but also the development of children's thinking and learning abilities which have the potential to affect their learning and productive capacity later. Stunting can also be defined as a condition where toddlers experience obstacles in physical growth due to long-term malnutrition, which results in children being shorter than children of the same age. Stunting is the development of the brain and intelligence of children. Apart from malnutrition, environmental factors and unhealthy food and lack of attention or family support for children's health are the causes of stunting. Stunting can be anticipated if a healthy environment and parental attention to the growth and development of children's activities are always maintained. Becoming one of the factors in overcoming stunting.

Abstract

The cultivation of seaweed in Langgere Village exhibits considerable promise; however, its potential has not been fully realized. This is primarily due to the limited capacity of farmers, the minimal role of fisheries extension workers, and the absence of sustainable facilities, infrastructure, and institutional support. The objective of this study is to ascertain the role of extension workers and the capacity of farmers in cultivating seaweed in Langgere Village, Bonegunu Sub-district, North Buton Regency. The population of this study was 206 seaweed farmers residing in Langgere Village. The sample size was determined using the Slovin formula with an error rate of 15%, resulting in a research sample of 36 seaweed farmer. The data were collected using a variety of research methods, including survey techniques, interviews, and documentation guided by a questionnaire. The research variables were divided into two categories: the role of extension workers and the capacity of seaweed farmers. The collected data is then subjected to descriptive analysis. The results indicated that the role of extension workers in Langgere Village is of significant importance in the development of seaweed cultivation. The role of educators and extension workers is to enhance farmers' technical knowledge. In their capacity as facilitators, extension workers play a pivotal role in assisting farmers in navigating the legal intricacies and acquiring the necessary capital for their business endeavors. In their capacity as organizers, extension workers play a pivotal role in facilitating the establishment of farmer groups and the subsequent management of production. As communicators, extension workers are responsible for data collection and routine monitoring of cultivation. Seaweed farmers have demonstrated effective managerial capacity by integrating their families into the business management process. From a technical standpoint, farmers implement suitable and efficient cultivation practices. Farmers demonstrate notable social capacity through their adherence to a culture of gotong royong, or mutual assistance, yet the formal cooperation with extension officers remains a developing area.
