Abstract

This study aims to analyze Sufi values in the moral and mental development of adolescents in Indonesia as an effort to address various psychological challenges and moral crises in the modern era. Using a qualitative approach and a literature review, this study compiled various literature sources, such as Sufi books, scientific journals, and research findings related to adolescent moral education. Data collection was conducted through documentation techniques by reviewing relevant texts and scientific works. Data were then analyzed using content analysis methods to identify the main Sufi concepts that play a role in adolescent character formation. The results indicate that Sufi values, such as tazkiyatun nafs (self-control), muhasabah (introspection), patience, gratitude, and tawadhu' (respect for oneself), contribute significantly to strengthening adolescent morality, fostering self-awareness, and enhancing mental resilience in the face of social pressures and technological developments. This study confirms that the application of Sufi values can be an effective alternative approach to developing the character of Indonesian adolescents in a more humanistic, transformative, and sustainable manner.

Abstract

Contemporary spiritual education is often trapped in formal ritualism without touching the essence of transcendence, resulting in profound spiritual emptiness among learners. This journal aims to analyze the urgency of Divine Love (Maḥabbatullāh) as the foundation of spiritualism and to identify pedagogical stages for cultivating it, sourced from thematic study of Hadith Qudsi (especially Hadith 9 regarding the closeness of servants). This research employs a qualitative method through thematic study (al-dirāsah al-mawḍū'iyyah) of Hadith Qudsi to identify patterns of Divine-human interaction. The research findings identify three pedagogical stages of Divine Love: Profession of Faith (Iqrār), Consistency of Faith (Istiqāmah), and Social-Spiritual Connectivity (Wasilah). These stages demonstrate that Maḥabbatullāh is not an end goal, but rather an active process that begins from ritual obedience toward Divinely-oriented social interaction. This study concludes that Islamic education must shift its focus from normative obedience alone to developing pedagogical strategies based on Divine Love as the most important strategy in grounding transcendent spiritualism among learners.

Abstract

Sufism (tasawuf) emerges as a spiritual approach with significant potential to support mental health through practices such as dhikr, muraqabah, hudhur al-qalb, tafakkur, and the internalization of values such as sincerity, patience, and trust in God. This study employs a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) guided by PRISMA standards to identify, evaluate, and synthesize empirical evidence on the relationship between Sufistic practices and mental health outcomes. Literature searches were conducted across international and national databases with inclusion criteria focusing on empirical studies exploring Sufi practices and indicators of mental well-being. Findings indicate that Sufism consistently contributes to reducing anxiety, stress, and depression while enhancing emotional stability, inner peace, and psychological well-being. Sufi-based interventions demonstrate alignment with modern psychotherapeutic mechanisms and provide notable physiological and emotional benefits. Although methodological quality varies across studies, the overall evidence supports the potential of Sufism as a complementary and holistic approach within psychospiritual therapy and mental health services. Thus, Sufism can be considered a relevant and culturally grounded intervention for supporting mental health in contemporary society.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze and describe the dynamics of Arabic language development in the early Islamic period (7th to 8th centuries AD). In contrast to its status in the Jahiliyyah era as a tribal spoken language, Arabic transformed into a language of administration, science, and most importantly, a sacred language, along with the expansion of the Caliphate. The main focus of this study is the central role of the Qur'an as a linguistic catalyst, which not only established the Quraysh dialect as Al-Lughah al-Fushah (Classical Standard Arabic) but also encouraged efforts for comprehensive linguistic codification. The method used is historical-linguistic, which involves a chronological review of key events and linguistic analysis of primary texts (the Qur'an) and secondary sources (early grammatical works). The findings indicate that increased linguistic contact after the conquest led to the emergence of the phenomenon of lahn (grammatical errors), which motivated scholars such as Abu al-Aswad al-Du'ali and Sibawayhi to establish grammatical rules (Nahw and Sarf). This process of codification succeeded in creating a strict and stable linguistic standard, known as Classical Arabic.

Abstract

Islamic education is currently facing increasingly complex challenges due to rapid technological advancement, social transformation, and the growing demands of 21st-century competencies. These conditions require a comprehensive reconstruction that goes beyond technical improvements in learning and encompasses deeper shifts in educational paradigms, epistemology, and institutional governance. This study aims to analyze the principles of Muhammadiyah modernism as a conceptual foundation for developing a more relevant and progressive model of Islamic education reconstruction. The research employs a library-based qualitative approach by examining literature on Islamic modernism, the thoughts of K.H. Ahmad Dahlan, and the Muhammadiyah educational system. The findings reveal that Muhammadiyah modernism grounded in the pillars of purification of teachings, rationality, and openness to science provides an integrative, adaptive, and forward-looking educational framework. The integration of religious and general sciences, the implementation of active learning models, and the professionalization of educational management serve as key strengths in this transformative effort. These findings affirm that Muhammadiyah modernism can function as a strategic paradigm for reconstructing Islamic education, enhancing its relevance, quality, and competitiveness in the modern era.

Abstract

This study aims to explain how the Sufi approach through the practice of dhikr can be an effective method in reducing anxiety in individuals. The research method used is a literature review (library research) by analyzing various scientific sources, both classical and modern, that discuss the relationship between dhikr, Sufism, and mental health. The results of the study indicate that dhikr functions not only as a verbal worship, but also as a spiritual therapy that can calm the mind and balance emotional conditions. The activity of repeatedly remembering Allah can reduce stress hormone levels, stabilize the nervous system, and lead individuals to a deeper spiritual awareness. Sufism guides humans to control the ego, accept fate with an open heart, and achieve inner peace through an intimate relationship with the Creator. Therefore, dhikr from a Sufi perspective plays a role in purifying the soul that helps overcome anxiety and improve psychological well-being.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the integration of Sufi values into Islamic psychotherapy as a strategy to strengthen students’ mental health in the digital era through a literature review approach. The digital era presents various psychological challenges, including anxiety, distraction, gadget dependence, and a decline in emotional regulation, thereby requiring a more comprehensive spiritual approach. Sufi values such as tazkiyatun nafs, muraqabah, muhasabah, patience, and dhikr hold significant potential in helping students develop inner peace and mental resilience. Through an extensive examination and analysis of classical and contemporary literature, this study identifies that Sufi-based Islamic psychotherapy offers a holistic healing mechanism by integrating cognitive, emotional, and spiritual dimensions. The findings indicate that the internalization of Sufi values can enhance self-awareness, impulse control, emotional stability, and the ability to face academic and social pressures proportionally. This integration is also relevant for implementation in educational settings through the habituation of dhikr, spiritual mentoring, and value-based counseling. Thus, this study emphasizes the importance of Sufism as a foundational model of Islamic psychotherapy that is adaptive to students’ mental health needs in the digital era

Abstract

This article discusses optimism and husnuzhan (positive thinking toward Allah) as a psychological foundation in Islamic education. The phenomenon of a psychological crisis among the younger generation such as increasing anxiety, pessimism, and the loss of life’s meaning serves as the background for highlighting the importance of this theme. The Qudsi Hadith, “I am as My servant thinks of Me” (Narrated by Bukhari & Muslim), is used as an epistemological basis that connects Islamic spirituality with educational psychology. The research method employed is library research with content analysis of classical Islamic texts, contemporary literature, and related studies. The results of the study yield a literature-based framework of Islamic Educational Psychology consisting of three main dimensions: (1) theological (belief in Allah’s mercy), (2) psychological (optimism, resilience, and self-efficacy), and (3) educational (spirituality-based learning strategies). This article asserts that optimism and husnuzhan are not merely moral values, but psychological strengths capable of strengthening students’ mental resilience and learning motivation. These findings are expected to enrich the field of Islamic Educational Psychology and open opportunities for further empirical and applicative research.
