Abstract

This study addresses a central issue in multilingual digital communication: how code-mixing practices are employed by diaspora content creators to construct identity and foster cross-cultural audience engagement. This problem is significant given the rising prevalence of translanguaging on social media, which is often understudied within contextualized sociolinguistic frameworks. The research examines the sociolinguistic dynamics of code-mixing in the YouTube content of Xaviera Putri, an Indonesian creator based in South Korea, to understand how multilingual practices shape digital interaction and transnational identity. Using a qualitative case study approach integrated with critical discourse analysis, the study analyzes 12 hours of video content (2022–2024) featuring 58 instances of code-mixing. Findings reveal three primary patterns: intra-sentential mixing (67%) used to preserve cultural concepts and fill lexical gaps; inter-sentential switching (22%) functioning as discourse organizers; and tag switching (11%) serving as politeness strategies. Thematic analysis identifies three key sociopragmatic functions: acting as a cultural broker, audience design for multilingual engagement, and identity negotiation within KAIST’s academic community. These results support translanguaging theory by demonstrating how hybrid language practices reconcile cultural authenticity with global accessibility. The study contributes to theoretical advancements in digital sociolinguistics and offers practical frameworks for content creators navigating multilingual digital ecosystems.

Abstract

Modernization of Islamic education is inevitable in the midst of changing times, technology, and science. The purpose of this study is to examine how Islamic education can be updated without leaving the basics of Islamic thought, especially in the Islamic perspective on knowledge as a way to get closer to God and form a complete human being. This research uses a qualitative method with the type of literature study, which collects data from various books, journals, and other relevant written sources, then analyzed by understanding the content and meaning of these sources. The results show that modernized Islamic education while still adhering to the basics of Islam can combine religious and general sciences in a balanced manner. That way, students are not only academically smart, but also have strong faith, morals and spiritual awareness. Islamic epistemology derived from the Qur'an, Sunnah, reason and human experience provides a strong basis for building a comprehensive education system. Strategies include updating the curriculum, learning methods, and strengthening Islamic values in schools. Challenges that often arise are the separation between religious and general sciences, and resistance to change. However, this can be overcome with cooperation between scholars, teachers and educator policymakers.

Abstract

Geometric writing ability is part of written mathematical communication abilities that focus on representing mathematical ideas in written form. Research observations show that this ability is still relatively low among eighth-grade students. The Geogebra-assisted Problem-Based Learning model is considered effective in encouraging active student engagement. Van Hiele's theory was chosen to classify students' geometric thinking stages. The purpose of this study was to describe the geometric writing ability of eighth-grade students based on Van Hiele's theory through the application of the Geogebra-assisted Problem-Based Learning model. The method used in this study was descriptive qualitative. The population in this study were eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 32 Purworejo in the 2024/2025 academic year, with a purposive sampling technique. The instruments used included the Van Hiele geometry level test questions and interview guidelines. Data analysis was done by reducing the data, presenting the data, and drawing conclusions/verification. The results of this study are (1) the Van Hiele geometry level test results show that most students are at stage 2 (informal deduction), and (2) there are differences in students' geometric writing abilities based on groups, with the upper group able to achieve three of the four indicators, the middle group able to achieve two of the four indicators, and the lower group only able to achieve one of the four indicators. Based on these results, it is found that Van Hiele's theory, the PBL model, and Geogebra can help develop students' geometric writing ability.
