Abstract

Education is a process aimed at developing students' potential comprehensively, including intellectual, spiritual, and moral aspects. One effective approach to character development is through Qur'anic learning. This study aims to describe the role of Qur'anic learning in shaping students' character, the character values developed, the challenges of its implementation in the digital era, and the roles of teachers and parents in supporting the process. This study employed a qualitative descriptive research design. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation and were analyzed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that Qur'anic learning plays a significant role in developing students' religious character, honesty, discipline, politeness, and social responsibility. Although digital technology presents various challenges, its appropriate utilization can enhance the effectiveness of Qur'anic learning. Furthermore, successful character development depends on strong collaboration between teachers as role models at school and parents as the primary educators at home. Therefore, Qur'anic learning serves not only to improve students' ability to read and understand the Qur'an but also to establish a strong moral foundation for nurturing a generation with noble character based on Islamic values.

Abstract

The rapid development of modern science and technology today often proceeds in isolation from spiritual and moral values, thereby triggering a crisis of moral degradation among academics, such as plagiarism, data manipulation, and a destructive orientation toward science. This study aims to formulate the concepts, basic principles, and relevance of character education ethics for Muslim scientists based on the Islamic perspective in order to produce a generation of scientists who are not only academically excellent but also possess high moral integrity. The method used is qualitative, specifically library research, where data collection is conducted through a critical review of classical Islamic texts and contemporary literature, followed by analysis using content analysis techniques. The research findings indicate that the ethics of character education for Muslim scientists are deeply rooted in the integration of faith, knowledge, and action, with core characteristics including sincerity, scientific integrity, humility, and social-spiritual responsibility. This character education successfully positions science not as a value-free entity, but as a value-bound one for the benefit of humanity and as a form of worship to Allah SWT.

Abstract

This article examines the urgency of the Living Qur'an in the lives of contemporary Muslim communities. The Living Qur'an is understood as a socio-religious phenomenon in which the Qur'an is not merely present as a written text but is actively lived, practiced, and functions across various aspects of community life. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach and library research, this study analyzes the significance of the Living Qur'an from three primary dimensions: spiritual, social, and cultural. The findings indicate that the Living Qur'an plays a fundamental and irreplaceable role in Muslim society. Spiritually, it serves as a source of spiritual strength and psychological well-being. Socially, it functions as a unifying force that strengthens social cohesion and facilitates the intergenerational transmission of moral values. Culturally, the Living Qur'an represents both a marker of cultural identity and a safeguard for religious and ethical values amid the challenges of globalization. In the contemporary era, the Living Qur'an faces challenges posed by modernization and secularization while simultaneously embracing new opportunities through digital media. This article concludes that the integrative and multidisciplinary revitalization of the Living Qur'an is essential for fostering a Muslim society that is characterized by strong moral values, civility, and competitiveness.

Abstract

This article discusses the concept of the integration of Islam and science as a scientific paradigm that rejects the dichotomy between religious knowledge and modern scientific knowledge. The separation of these two fields has often led to the assumption that religion is concerned only with spiritual matters, while science focuses solely on empirical and rational aspects. From an Islamic perspective, however, all knowledge originates from Allah SWT and serves the common purpose of understanding His creation and promoting human welfare. Therefore, Islam and science should not be viewed as contradictory entities but as complementary and mutually supportive sources of knowledge. This study employs a qualitative approach through library research by examining various sources, including the Qur'an, Hadith, books, and scientific journals related to the integration of Islam and science. The findings reveal that the integration of Islam and science can be implemented through the development of knowledge based on the values of tawhid (Islamic monotheism), ethics, and moral responsibility. This integration encourages a more comprehensive understanding of reality by combining revelation as the source of absolute truth with reason and observation as tools for acquiring empirical knowledge. Furthermore, the integration of Islam and science contributes to the development of holistic education, character building among students, and the advancement of civilization that balances material progress with spiritual values. In conclusion, the integration of Islam and science offers a solution to the challenges arising from the separation of knowledge. This paradigm emphasizes that religion and science can coexist harmoniously in shaping individuals and societies that are faithful, knowledgeable, ethical, and socially responsible.

Abstract

The development of urban society has introduced new complexities in religious life, driven by technological advancement, social diversity, and changing patterns of religious communication. This situation requires da‘wah to move beyond traditional approaches and to develop contextual and adaptive communication models. This article aims to examine the role of da‘wah as a medium of communication in mediating transformations of urban religiosity through the phenomena of Urban Sufism and Urban Salafism. This study employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive-analytical design. Data were collected through a literature review of works on da‘wah and Islamic communication, classical Islamic texts (kitab), and an examination of da‘wah practices and materials circulating in urban public spaces, including digital media platforms. Data analysis was conducted using discourse analysis and da‘wah communication approaches to reveal patterns of message delivery, communication strategies, and the construction of religious meaning produced by these two da‘wah models. The findings indicate that da‘wah plays a significant role in shaping the transformation of urban religiosity, particularly in terms of religious awareness, Islamic identity, and religious practices. Urban Sufism presents a spiritual-communicative model of da‘wah that emphasizes inner experience, empathetic engagement, and dialogue with modernity, while Urban Salafism represents a normative-textual model that prioritizes doctrinal certainty and the reinforcement of religious identity. These two approaches demonstrate dynamic interactions and contestations of religious discourse within urban public spaces through narratives, symbols, and da‘wah communication strategies. This study underscores that da‘wah in urban society functions strategically as a medium of communication that shapes and continuously transforms patterns of religiosity in a dynamic and sustainable manner.

Abstract

Social change in religious life is a phenomenon that continues to develop along with changes in social environments, technological advancements, and the dynamics of human interaction. Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) as Islamic educational institutions play an important role in shaping religious values, norms, and social behavior, yet they cannot be separated from the influence of changing times. This article aims to analyze the pattern of religious interaction changes at Darul Ulum Islamic Boarding School through Max Weber’s theory of social action. This study employs a library research method by examining various scientific sources, including journals, books, and previous studies related to social change, religious interaction, Islamic boarding schools, and social action theory. The findings indicate that changes in religious interactions within pesantren are influenced by internal and external factors, such as technological development, changes in communication patterns, social environmental influences, and the adaptation process of students toward emerging values. From Max Weber’s perspective, changes in students’ behavior and social interactions can be understood as forms of social action containing subjective meanings, both oriented toward religious values and influenced by rational considerations in responding to social changes. This study concludes that changes in religious interactions within pesantren not only reflect shifts in social behavior but also represent an adaptation process between traditional pesantren values and the development of modern society.
