Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of discovery learning on the students’critical thinking skill. The research was a comparative study with 64 students of 11th grade that were randomly selected from senior high school in Yogyakarta. The data of critical thinking was collected through the critical thinking test instrument. Face content and construct validity conducted as initial step in developing the instrument before the test was used to measure students’ critical thinking skill toward the research sample. The instrument went through the RD for examining its validity and reliability using the Partial Credit Model with the result of validity showed 8 of 10 items fit with model. The study analysis was conducted using t-test and  descriptive analysis. The results of this study show there was a significant difference in students’ critical thinking between the experiment and control group. The profile results of critical thinking skill indicate that indicators of problem identification were better compared to other indicators learning.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menghasilkan buku cerita bergambar berbasis kearifan lokal untuk meningkatkan karakter peduli sosial siswa kelas IV Sekolah Dasar. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian pengembangan Borg Gall. Pengumpulan data menggunakan wawancara, observasi, dan angket berupa skala. Teknis analisis data menggunakan analisis deksriptif, uji t, dan uji Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA) dengan taraf signifikansi 5%. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa buku cerita bergambar berbasis kearifan lokal layak digunakan berdasarkan hasil validasi ahli media dan ahli materi. Selain itu, buku cerita bergambar berbasis kearifan lokal dapat meningkatkan karakter peduli sosial siswa kelas IV berdasarkan hasil peningkatan rata-rata skor angket berupa skala dan lembar observasi siswa selama pembelajaran berlangsung. Hasil perhitungan MANOVA menunjukkan terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan pada karakter peduli sosial siswa kelas IV antara kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol. Pengembangan buku cerita bergambar berbasis kearifan lokal terbukti efektif untuk meningkatkan karakter peduli sosial siswa sekolah dasar.DEVELOPMENT OF PICTURE STORY BOOKS BASED ON LOCAL WISDOM ON SOCIAL CARE CHARACTERSThe aims of this study are to establish a picture story book based on local wisdom that is appropriate for social care character of IV grade elementary school students. It employed a development research method by Borg Gall. The data were collected through interviews, observation, and questionnaires. The data analysis included t-test, and the MANOVA test with a significance level of 5%. The results show that the books were suitable based on the results of the validation of media and material experts. In addition, the books are able to improve social care of fourth grade students based on the results of increasing the average questionnaire score in the form of scales and student observation. MANOVA test calculation results indicate significant differences in the social care of IV grade students in the experimental and the control classes. The development of picture story books based on local wisdom has proven to be effective in improving the social care character of elementary school students.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji keefektifan strategi pembuatan tanggapan dan strategi komentar terhadap bacaan dalam pembelajaran menulis teks eksposisi tingkat Sekolah Menengah Pertama. Penelitian ini juga bertujuan untuk menguji kefektifan strategi pembuatan tanggapan terhadap teks, strategi komentar terhadap bacaan, dan strategi konvensional dalam pembelajaran menulis teks eksposisi. Sampel penelitian ini adalah 92 siswa yang dipilih melalui teknik cluster random sampling. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan tes tulis. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah analisis varians satu jalan dan dilanjutkan dengan uji Scheffe. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pertama, terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara strategi pembuatan tanggapan terhadap teks dan strategi konvensional. Kedua, pada penelitian ini adalah terdapat perbedaan antara strategi komentar terhadap bacaan dan strategi konvensional. Ketiga, tidak terdapat perbedaan antara strategi pembuatan tanggapan terhadap teks dan strategi komentar terhadap bacaan, namun hasil rata-rata kelompok eksperimen 1 lebih besar dibandingkan kelompok eksperimen 2. Dengan demikian, urutan keefektifan ketiga strategi tersebut adalah strategi pembuatan tanggapan terhadap teks, strategi komentar terhadap bacaan, dan strategi konvensionalTHE EFFECTIVENESS OF RESPONSE STRATEGY ON TEXT AND COMMENTS ON READING IN LEARNING WRITINGThis study aimed to examine the effectiveness of the strategy of making responses and strategies for commenting on the reading in learning to write exposition text for Junior Hight School level. This study was also to determine the effectiveness of strategies for making responses to texts, strategies for commenting on reading, and conventional strategies in learning to write exposition texts. The sample of this study was 92 students who were selected through cluster random sampling technique. The data collection technique used a written test. The data analysis technique used was one-way analysis of variance and continued with the Scheffe test. The results showed that first, there was a significant difference between the strategy for making responses to the text and the conventional strategy. Second, result in this study is that there is a difference between the commentary strategy on reading and the conventional strategy. Third, there is no significant difference between the strategy for making responses to text and the strategy for commenting on reading, but the average result of the experimental group 1 is greater than that of the experimental group 2. Thus, the order of the effectiveness of the three strategies is the strategy of making responses to text, the strategy of commenting on readings, and conventional strategies.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kesesuaian antara pelaksanaan program S1 PGSD di UPBJJ UT DIY berdasarkan terpenuhi tidaknya kebutuhan guru serta input yang meliputi latar belakang pendidikan mahasiswa, kualifikasi pendidikan tutor, ketersediaan sarana dan prasarana, keterpenuhan process, pelaksanaan tutorial, penilaian tutorial, keterpenuhan product, masa studi mahasiswa, dan keterpenuhan outcome. Sampel penelitian mahasiswa yang masih aktif mengikuti tutorial sejumlah 160, 25 orang tutor, 63 kepala sekolah, dan 181 guru. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa kebutuhan guru SD di DIY belum terpenuhi. Latar belakang pendidikan mahasiswa sebagian besar berasal dari SLTA/SMA. Kualifikasi pendidikan tutor, perencanaan tutorial, dan evaluasi pelaksanaan tutorial termasuk dalam kriteria baik, sedangkan ketersediaan sarana dan prasarana serta pelaksanaan tutorial  termasuk dalam kriteria cukup (belum memadai). IPK dan masa studi mahasiswa dalam kriteria memuaskan dan pendek. Persepsi kepala sekolah terhadap kinerja guru sebelum dan setelah lulus dari S1 PGSD UT DIY secara umum mengalami peningkatan

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengidentifikasi; memetakan; dan melihat perbedaan jumlah materi sulit pada ujian nasional Bahasa Inggris SMA tahun 2007-2010 di Kabupaten Minahasa Selatan dan Bolaangmongondow Utara. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian survey. Data yang digunakan berupa data sekunder, yakni hasil ujian nasional tahun 2007-2010 yang dimiliki oleh Pusat Penilaian Pendidikan (Puspendik), Balitbang Depdiknas. Analisis data yang digunakan adalah analisis deskriptif kuantitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pertama, materi sulit ujian nasional Bahasa Inggris SMA di Kabupaten Minahasa Selatan pada tahun 2007/2008 sebanyak 10 butir (20,00%), 2008/2009 sebanyak empat butir (8,00%), serta 2009/2010 paket A sebanyak 10 butir (20,00%) dan paket B sebanyak sembilan butir (18,00%), sedangkan materi sulit untuk ujian nasional Bahasa Inggris SMA di Kabupaten Bolaangmongondow Utara tahun 2007/2008 sebanyak 10 butir (20,00%), 2008/2009 sebanyak empat butir (8,00%), serta 2009/2010 paket A sebanyak 10 butir (20,00%) dan paket B sebanyak 10 butir (20,00%). Kedua, secara umum tingkat kesulitan soal ujian nasional Bahasa Inggris selama tiga tahun terakhir relatif merata. Abstract

Abstract This research was intended to know the extent to which Contextual Teaching and Learning (CLT) are able to overcome practical problems in compliance with the students’ ability to construct a concept from what they learned. The research subjects are the students of the academic years 2003/2004 who take the Introduction to Economic Science. This research involved 40 first semester students, one lecturer as the researcher and the executor of the action, two observer lecturers. Since there is lack of time in the accordance with the grouping and the students’ classification takes time, two methods are used to improve: the students’ participation in discussing the results of their discussion, the students’ way in revealing describing oral description review, the students’ capability in construction concept. It is found that CTL has the following weaknesses: the frequent use of CTL method makes the students boring. For the students with high level of learning motivation it is ex citing because they have chance to express more opinions, but for those with low level of learning motivation it is not interesting. Abstract

This study was aimed at finding out the effects of problem-based learning (PBL) method to increase the students learning interests and achievement in advanced statistics. The study was conducted by classroom action research in two cycles. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Findings showed that the implementation of the PBL method was able to increase the students learning interests both inside and outside the class. By way of case analysis tasks, students showed great participation in the teaching learning process. The PBL method also increased the students achievement. The students showed great understanding of the concepts and application of advanced statistics

Abstract

The study was aimed at identifying the necessity of developing teacher-based test item banks in the province of Yogyakarta. The identification of field conditions to become input for further studies contained: the definition of teacher-based test item banks, characteristics of teacher-based test kit, and equalization analyses of test item characteristics among different places. Using the survey design, the study collected data through questionnaires, interviews, and focus group discussion. The subjects included 42 teachers of physical sciences, mathematics, English and Indonesian, 5 school principals, and 5 office staff members. Data were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. Findings showed that (1) no item test bank existed in the province nor in the district; (2) analyses of test item characteristics were conducted by a small number of teachers (3) use of evaluation results for learning washback effects was not yet conducted. In relation to the existence of the teachers association and principals association and the carrying out of the final semester test unison, a model of test-item bank development can be developed through item test construction by the teachers association and principals association
