Abstract

Digital transformation in education presents Indonesian pesantren, that is, Islamic boarding schools rooted in face to face transmission of religious knowledge through sorogan, bandongan, and halaqah, with both opportunity and tension. This qualitative case study examines how Pondok Thursina, a modern pesantren in East Java, integrates Samsung Digital Classroom technology while preserving its religious and communal identity. A single site embedded case study was conducted over five months (January to May 2026), drawing on twenty four nonparticipant classroom observations across general and religious subjects, semistructured interviews with eighteen informants (two kiai, eight ustadz, eight santri), and analysis of institutional documents and student digital artifacts. Data were analysed thematically using Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña’s interactive model, with trustworthiness ensured through source and method triangulation, member checking, peer debriefing, and a complete audit trail. Findings reveal four interrelated themes: (1) layered remediation that augments rather than replaces classical pedagogy; (2) emergent Digital Pedagogical Content Knowledge for Pesantren (DPCKP) cultivated through peer micromentoring; (3) cultural and spiritual content filtering through musyawarah and adab norms; and (4) structural tensions involving infrastructure, screen time governance, and asymmetric digital literacy among santri. The study advances the Pesantren Digital Integration Model (PDIM), extending Mishra and Koehler’s TPACK with two pesantren specific axes: spiritual and cultural alignment, and communal and spatial pedagogy. Findings inform Islamic education policy, EdTech vendors operating in faith based settings, and pesantren leaders pursuing digitisation without detraditionalisation.

Abstract

This quantitative study examines teachers' perceptions of the roles and infrastructure of surau (school prayer halls) and the teaching of Islamic Education in surau at National Schools in Malaysia. It involved 500 Islamic Education teachers from five zones (North, East, Centre, South, and East Malaysia). The pilot study recorded a relatively high Cronbach's Alpha reliability value (0.989). Data were analyzed descriptively using mean, standard deviation, and percentages, and further tested using the t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation, and multiple linear regression at a significance value of 0.05. Overall, the findings showed a mean of 4.39 for the surau's role, the highest among the variables, while teaching Islamic Education in the surau recorded an average mean (3.69) and surau infrastructure also recorded an average mean (3.95). The t-test and one-way ANOVA showed a significant difference between teaching Islamic Education at the surau and its infrastructure (p < .05). Physical and ergonomic aspects were also found to contribute significantly to the teaching of Islamic Education at surau in National Schools. The study showed that surau, together with their infrastructure, are capable of improving and upholding Islamic Education in National Schools. As a contribution, the study suggests that the 'Model Surau Sekolah Bersepadu' be implemented in teaching Islamic Education in National Schools in Malaysia. Keywords: Islamic Education, Surau, Infrastructure, Location, Gender, Ergonomic

Abstract

Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) have historically served as the cornerstone of religious education in Indonesia, yet their capacity to enhance educational quality amid globalization and technological advancement remains insufficiently examined. This study investigates the role of pesantren in improving the quality of religious education through the lens of Islamic education transformation. Employing a qualitative approach with a multiple case study design, data were collected through semi-structured interviews with 24 informants, participatory observation, and document analysis across six pesantren in Java and Sumatra representing traditional (salafiyah), modern (khalafiyah), and integrated typologies. The findings reveal three principal dimensions of transformation: first, curriculum integration that harmonizes classical Islamic texts (kitab kuning) with contemporary scientific and vocational competencies; second, pedagogical modernization through the adoption of student-centered learning methods and digital technology while preserving the core values of character formation (tarbiyah); and third, institutional governance reform characterized by strategic leadership of kiai, quality assurance mechanisms, and community-based partnerships. The study concludes that pesantren that successfully balance the preservation of traditional religious identity with adaptive innovation (al-muhafazhah 'ala al-qadim al-shalih wa al-akhdzu bi al-jadid al-ashlah) demonstrate significantly enhanced educational outcomes. These findings contribute to the theoretical discourse on Islamic education management by proposing a triadic transformation model and offer practical implications for policymakers and pesantren administrators seeking to strengthen religious education quality in Indonesia.

Abstract

This research evaluates the determinants of Learning Management System (LMS) continuance intention among high school students. Grounded in the Stimulus-Organism-Response (S-O-R) framework, the study investigates the specific impact of Perceived Usefulness (PU) on Continuance Intention (CIT). Data from 403 students in Semarang, Indonesia, were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) via SmartPLS 4. The statistical results confirm that Perceived Usefulness significantly predicts Continuance Intention (beta = 0.530, p < 0.001). The structural model exhibits substantial predictive power, explaining 77.2% of the variance (R2 = 0.772). These findings suggest that to ensure digital sustainability, educational platforms must prioritize delivering tangible functional benefits to students.

Abstract

This study examined the effectiveness of a reward-based classroom management application in improving learners’ on-task behavior, a common challenge for pre-service teachers. Grounded in Behaviorist Theory and positive reinforcement, it explored how a reward-based system influences learner behavior. An explanatory single-case study with qualitative elements was conducted among twenty (20) pre-service teachers at Pedro Acharon Sr. Central Elementary School in General Santos City during the 2025–2026 academic year. Data were collected through pre- and post-intervention interviews over a 20-day implementation, where the application was used in individual and group activities. Before the intervention, learners showed low engagement, limited attention, disruptive behavior, and poor collaboration. After implementation, improvements were observed in focus, participation, task compliance, and behavior. Features such as rewards, immediate feedback, and visual design supported sustained attention and on-task behavior. The study concludes that the application effectively improves learners’ on-task behavior and supports classroom management among pre-service teachers. Therefore, it is recommended that school administrators, teachers, and pre-service teachers integrate reward-based digital classroom management tools to improve learner engagement and classroom behavior, while future researchers further examine their effectiveness in different educational contexts. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of assessment time on grading weight in online learning using a public dataset from the Open University Learning Analytics Dataset (OULAD) via Kaggle. A quantitative approach with correlational research design was applied, utilizing simple linear regression as the analytical method processed with IBM SPSS Statistics. The independent variable in this study is assessment execution time (date), while the dependent variable is grading weight (weight). The results of the ANOVA test show a significance value of 0.008 (< 0.05), indicating that the regression model is statistically significant. Meanwhile, the correlation coefficient (R) of 0.189 indicates a weak positive relationship, and the coefficient of determination (R Square) of 0.036 reveals that assessment time only explains 3.6% of the variance in grading weight. These findings confirm that assessment time has a statistically significant but practically weak influence on grading weight. Other variables, such as assessment type, material complexity, and institutional policies, are likely to have a larger contribution. This study provides theoretical and practical implications for the design of digital instructional systems, especially in the context of facilitating learning and improving human performance through structured assessment management.
