Abstract

The formation of students' character is crucial in today's educational landscape for advancing the nation's character. Several factors affecting the formation of students' character include the personality competence of teachers and parental upbringing patterns. This research aims to determine the effect of a teacher's personality competence and parenting styles on the formation of students' character. This study was quantitative research conducted using a survey method. This research population used students from two junior high schools in Sungai Loban District, Tanah Bumbu Regency. The sampling technique used nonprobability sampling with type purposive random sampling. The sample used in this research consisted of 150 students. The sampling technique used was random sampling. Data analysis techniques included descriptive data analysis, data prerequisite testing, and multiple linear regression analysis. The research results indicate a positive and significant effect between teachers' personality competence and parenting styles on forming students' character, resulting in 38.4%. It suggests that the better the teacher's personality competence and the parenting styles implemented by parents, the better the students' character formation.

Abstract

This study analyzes the condition of industrial workshops related to Occupational Safety and Health (K3) equipment and workshop regulations according to supervisors' and industrial instructors’ views. The availability of K3 equipment and workshop rule standards are considered important due to the development of students' industrial cultural character toward fostering job readiness. The results show the K3 culture in the Prakerin industry tends to be positive. It is found the necessity to focus on commitment and management style as the key to improving safety culture. Although K3 document is considered sufficient, workers’ and students’ response vary in K3 culture of Prakerin. This indicates the need for improving understanding of safety in Prakerin. Based on the F-test, the availability of documents and worker culture simultaneously affect the student's K3 culture. Although the t-test shows that work safety documents have no significant effect, worker safety culture has a very significant influence on student work safety culture. It concludes that the adoption of K3 culture by workers in industry influenced the K3 culture of Prakerin students. This study recommends to exploring influence of industrial environment on student character by evaluating various industry, for understanding student’ character building and job readiness of vocational graduates.

Abstract

The present research aims to investigate the practice of real-time or synchronous written corrective feedback (SWCF) delivery via Google Docs as a platform to deliver feedback, known as a linguistic feedback tool (LiFT) in ESP (English for Specific Purposes) classes, students’ preferences and viewpoints of SWCF. The research employed a qualitative case study involving 15 students from an advanced English correspondence course in a non-English department of a private university in Depok, West Java, Indonesia. Open-ended questionnaires, document analysis, and semi-structured interviews were used to gather the data. The findings revealed that auto-generated and human feedback are used to deliver SWCF via Google Docs, inferring that those features can build students' awareness of language aspects, content, and context in composing professional documents. Direct feedback was delivered more frequently, regarding the learning time efficiency and the students’ ability to identify errors. Further, the students preferred frequent SWCF, direct and indirect feedback, and correcting delivery methods. Finally, they considered that SWCF delivered via Google Docs assists them in improving letter accuracy. Their preferences and viewpoints might allow the lecturer to choose appropriate feedback delivery strategies and material reinforcement. The present research implies a balanced use of auto-generated and human feedback from LiFT in SWCF delivery. Evaluating the effectiveness of SWCF delivery via Google Docs for different levels of achievers in ESP classes might be a potential area of future research. Other LiFTs’ infusion into ESP classes is also worth researching to provide language instructors with alternative applications for SWCF delivery.

Abstract

STEAM education has been increasingly adopted by teachers globally in educational settings spanning from elementary school to high school level. However, the challenge is in ensuring that STEAM education adaptation remains relevant to students. In this study, we examined Indonesian teacher experts’ points of view on the pedagogical guidelines for assisting teachers in developing STEAM lessons that are relevant for their students in the Indonesian context. This study employed the Delphi method and involved the participation of eighty teacher experts during a series of three rounds of evaluation processes by analyzing the consensus levels and agreement between rounds. Data were obtained through an online form and subsequently analyzed by descriptive qualitative methods to investigate the quality of several design principles and acquire teacher experts’ recommendations. The findings revealed the consensus between the three rounds on the quality of the design principles. Moreover, the results of this study highlight main dimensions involving technology usage, assessment, contextual problems, integrated STEAM learning, and classroom implementation, which might contribute to advancing knowledge in the field of STEAM education. Therefore, the findings provide recommendations for future research and explorations by focusing on the main dimensions that should be prioritized.

Abstract

The implementation of Loose Part media has proven to enhance various aspects of children's development, particularly in cognitive development. This study aims to evaluate the impact of implementing Loose Part media in early mathematics play activities on the cognitive development of early childhood at 'Aisyiyah Bustanul Athfal (ABA) Simangambat Mandailing Natal Kindergarten. The research adopts the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method, utilizing a quantitative approach to measure the success rate of the children and a qualitative approach to observe advanced development and decision-making. Loose Part media is applied to stimulate the cognitive development of early childhood through early mathematics play activities. The research population involves early childhood subjects in Group B, aged 5-6 years, at 'Aisyiyah Bustanul Athfal (ABA) Simangambat Mandailing Natal Kindergarten, totaling 22 children. The research findings indicate that the implementation of Loose Part media significantly improves the cognitive development of early childhood. Before the intervention, the average score was 30%, which increased to 62.68% after Cycle I and reached 85.20% after Cycle II. Consequently, learning through Loose Part media in play activities proves to be an effective choice for enhancing the cognitive development of early childhood. The interpretation of the research results reveals a significant enhancement in children's cognitive abilities through interaction with Loose Part media. The substantial improvement, reflected in the average score progression from Cycle I to Cycle II (85.20%), indicates the positive contribution of Loose Part media in early mathematics play activities to the cognitive development of early childhood.

Abstract

The present study compares the university student’s experiences of learning in virtual mode during unprecedented impacts of the COVID-19 in Bangladesh and Indonesia with a focus on the enjoyment, performance, satisfaction, and cost of online learning. This was quantitative cross-sectional research conducted by using an online survey with the participation of 438 and 529 university students in Bangladesh and Indonesia. The findings reveal that university students in Bangladesh have little more comfortable with online learning compared to those in Indonesia. The students in both countries have no problem with adaptation to avant-garde online learning platforms. University students in Bangladesh appear little more satisfied with online teaching while those in Indonesia tend to be less satisfied. University students either in Bangladesh or in Indonesia consider online learning as an expensive learning mode. The present study depicts an early online remote learning experience of university students during the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to the nature of the descriptive comparative study focusing on Bangladesh and Indonesia, the results of this study may not be generalised. Specific factors underlying their experiences are in need of further investigation. In future endeavours, lectures are urged to actively harness proper technologies, mix between conventional and virtual learning or blend synchronous and asynchronous learning to provide more enjoyable and interesting online learning thus the students can be more satisfied.
