Abstract

The Analysis Morphophonemic and Affixation Process in the Dusun Language of Bebuloh Village, Brunei Darussalam Abstract This study examines the affixation process in the Dusun language as spoken in Kampung Bebuloh, Brunei Darussalam. Qualitative methods have been employed for data collection, involving audio recordings of interview sessions and subsequent analysis of field data. The filtered data will undergo examination utilizing structural theory (Bloomfield, 1933). The study identified five morphophonemic processes: phoneme changes, phoneme additions, phoneme loss, phoneme shifts, and phoneme weakening. There are 23 prefix affixes, five suffix affixes, one infix, one epenthesis, and a new process that involves past tense markers and phoneme replacement that were found for affixation processes. Also, the study found some things that could have been improved in the way people spoke the Dusun language. These included using Dusun language affixes in Standard Malay vocabulary and the Brunei Malay dialect, as well as using Dusun language affixes in the wrong way. The findings of this research are significant as they highlight the scarcity of proficient Dusun language speakers, a consequence of the declining number of native Dusun language speakers. Dusun language speakers often exhibit influence from foreign languages or Brunei Malay.

Abstract

Representation of Economy in Political Speech Titah Abstract This study examines the representation of the word 'economy' in the political text titah of the Opening Ceremony of the National Assembly (MMN) of Brunei Darussalam from 2009 to 2022. Using a historical discourse approach, this paper analyzes the discursive strategies employed to understand the relationship between economic lexical items and the economic situation, national and global finance, society's perspective and actions, and its importance in determining the direction and effectiveness of national governance. The findings indicate that the word 'economy' is consistently used in the data set in the form of social agencies or actors, objects, phenomena or events, as well as processes and actions. It also reveals that 'economy' is represented in both positive and negative forms to instill confidence in the community or provide a comprehensive picture to ensure that any social action carried out is in line with the intended idea. This study provides an alternative perspective and methodology to the existing literature, specifically those concerning economics and political texts in Brunei Darussalam. It is expected to be a valuable resource for further research and contribute to the development of related studies in this area.

Abstract

Kemudian, terdapat berlainan sistem mengenai konsonannya. Therefore, this study is to analyze the phonological evolution of Brunei Malay. Additionally, researches made before also touch less about vocal clusters, diphthongs, deletion, and addition. Therefore, this study will benefit from documentations as data. The significant of this study is that it is one of the written prove of the evolution on Brunei Malay alongside with the achievements, developments and modernization of the country. The study found that Brunei’s Malay has evolved into a Malay language of six vocal system with addition of vocals /e, ?, o/. Moreover, there are 19 consonants altogether with addition of consonants /q, z/. There are six vocal clusters, namely /ai, au, ia, iu, ua, ui/. Next, there are three diphthongs; three of are /ai, au/ and one addition is /oi/.
