Abstract

Dyspepsia is one of the top digestive disorders that are often found in society. The symptoms that arise include pain or discomfort in the heartburn, stomach feels full, nausea, vomiting, satiety, quickly, and often burping. This condition is not only influenced by organic factors, but also closely related to psychosomatic factors, one of which is anxiety. Anxiety can trigger an increase in the hull of stomach acid secretion, motility disorder, as well as a decrease in stomach mucosa function, which exacerbates in dyspepsia symptoms. This study aims to determine the relationship between anxiety levels and the incidence of spsia syndrome in patients at Annisa Tangerang Hospital. This study used quantitative designs with a correlational approach and a cross sectional design. The total population was taken from the last 3 months patient data and the number of samples using the slovin formula with a result of 130 respondents chosen with accidental sampling technique. The research instrument in the form of anxiety-level questionnaire and symptoms questionnaire. The data were analyzed using the Chi Square test with a significance level of p <0.05. The results showed a meaningful connection between anxiety levels and the incidence of dyspepsia syndrome (p = 0.005). This finding is in line with previous research that confirms that psychological factors can worsen digestive condition. The conclusion of this study is that anxiety has an important contribution to the emergence of dyspeptic syndrome. Therefore, the arrangement of patients based on dyspepsia needs to be carried out thoroughly, not only through pharmacological therapies, but also through nursing interventions that pay attention to the patient's psychological aspects. The results of this study are expected to be input for health workers, educational institutions, and subsequent researchers to develop holistic management strategies in reducing the incidence of dyspepsia.

Abstract

Diarrhea remains one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality among children under five, including in Indonesia. Preschoolers are particularly vulnerable due to their immature immune systems and frequent contact with the environment during play. Poor hygiene practices, especially the lack of proper handwashing with soap, are major contributing factors. This community service program aimed to improve preschool children’s knowledge and skills in handwashing through the Handwashing Movement (CITA) at TK Kartika III-10 Semarang on April 17, 2025, involving 34 students and 3 teachers. The intervention included health education, educational videos, ice breaking activities, and demonstration of the WHO-recommended six steps of handwashing, followed by guided practice. Evaluation results showed a significant improvement in correct handwashing skills, increasing from 24% before the intervention to 88% after. The CITA program proved effective in fostering handwashing habits among preschoolers and has the potential to reduce the incidence of diarrhea while promoting healthy living from an early age.

Abstract

Menstrual irregularities may arise after long-term use of injectable contraception. Menstrual disorders are characterized by abnormal bleeding during the menstrual cycle, as shown by the duration of the monthly cycle, the length of the menstrual period, and the volume of menstrual blood. Changes in the menstrual cycle affect physical, psychological, social, and spiritual dimensions, reduce the quality of life, and may lead to long-term problems if inadequately managed. Prolonged use of tri-monthly injectable contraceptives is recognized to cause changes in the levels of estrogen and progesterone hormones within the body. This impairs endometrial function and results in histological changes that cause menstrual problems. This study aims to determine the relationship between the length of usage of three-monthly injectable contraceptives and abnormal menstruation at TPMB (Independent Midwifery Practice) Widya Puri. This research employed an analytical study utilizing a cross-sectional methodology. The study sample comprised of 100 mothers attending a follow-up appointment for a three-monthly injectable contraception. The methodology employed was purposive sampling. Data collecting methods employed questionnaires and observation sheets, which were analyzed using univariate analysis and chi-square tests. The data showed that 84 mothers, representing 84.0%, had a duration of use more than one year. The majority of responders encountered menstruation problems. Amenorrhea occurred in 55 individuals (55.0%), while menstrual problems were the least prevalent. Hypomenorrhea occurs in 6 individuals, representing 6% of the population. The statistical analysis employing the Chi Square test obtained a p-value of 0.000 (<0.05). This is a significant relationship between the duration of 3-month injectable contraceptive use and menstrual problems. In this case, it may be stated that the research hypothesis Ha is accepted whereas Ho is rejected, therefore confirming the validity of the research hypothesis. Furthermore, it may be inferred that a relationship exists between the duration of 3-month injectable contraceptive usage and menstruation disorders in TPMB Widya Puri.

Abstract

Traditional pond aquaculture often struggles with declining water quality due to feed waste accumulation and chemical use. Trichoderma, a saprophytic fungus widely known as a biological control agent, offers an environmentally friendly alternative for improving pond conditions. This article reports a community service program in Pao Village, North Luwu, where liquid Trichoderma was applied in traditional ponds and its impact on water quality was evaluated. Activities included training local farmers in fungal propagation and inoculum application for whiteleg shrimp and milkfish culture. Laboratory tests of water quality parameters were conducted before and one month after application. Results showed notable improvements: pH increased from 6.8 to 7.0, ammonia decreased from 0.2322 to 0.2119 mg/L, nitrite dropped from 0.0751 to 0.0174 mg/L, and total phosphate declined by approximately 29%. Water clarity also improved as total suspended solids decreased from 11 to 9 mg/L, while dissolved oxygen remained stable (5.71–5.53 mg/L). These findings demonstrate that Trichoderma effectively stabilizes pond ecosystems by reducing toxic compounds and maintaining favorable conditions for aquaculture. The intervention not only supports sustainable and eco-friendly aquaculture practices but also empowers local farmers to reduce dependency on chemicals and antibiotics, ultimately enhancing productivity and contributing to food security.

Abstract

The increasing prevalence of multidrug-resistant bacterial infections underscores the urgent need for new antimicrobial agents, especially those derived from plant-based sources. Coleus atropurpureus, a medicinal plant used extensively in Asia and Oceania, contains various bioactive compounds, including flavonoids, terpenoids, and phenolic acids, which have demonstrated antimicrobial properties. This review examines studies published between 2015 and 2025, highlighting the antibacterial activity of ethanolic and methanolic extracts of C. atropurpureus, particularly against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). Phytochemical analysis reveals that these extracts exert their antimicrobial effects through multiple mechanisms, including the disruption of microbial membranes, enzyme inhibition, the induction of reactive oxygen species, and immunomodulatory actions. Furthermore, the extracts have shown synergistic effects when combined with antibiotics, suggesting their potential as adjunct therapies. The evidence gathered supports the therapeutic potential of C. atropurpureus as a natural antimicrobial agent, offering a promising alternative to conventional antibiotics in combating drug-resistant infections.

Abstract

Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) remains a major nutritional problem among children in developing countries, significantly affecting health, growth, and development. IDA occurs when hemoglobin levels decrease due to insufficient iron intake, thereby limiting oxygen distribution to body tissues. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between IDA and nutritional status among children aged 0–17 years treated at Dr. Pringadi General Hospital Medan during 2023–2024. A cross-sectional analytic design was employed with a population of 76 children, and 64 samples met the inclusion criteria. Data were collected from medical records, including hemoglobin levels, body weight, height, age, and gender. Statistical analysis was conducted using the chi-square test with SPSS. Results showed that the prevalence of IDA was 84.4% (54 children), while poor nutritional status was found in 51.6% (33 children). Statistical testing confirmed a significant association between IDA and nutritional status (p = 0.018 < 0.05). These findings emphasize the close link between anemia and malnutrition in influencing child growth and development, although not all children with IDA were undernourished. This suggests the involvement of other factors such as parenting practices, dietary diversity, and infection status. The study recommends comprehensive interventions, including nutrition education, iron supplementation, improved dietary quality, and continuous nutritional monitoring, to reduce the prevalence of IDA and malnutrition, thereby supporting healthier and more productive future generations.

Abstract

The Ibu Ce T Ar Community Empowerment Program (Prevent Stunting My Smart Child) in Mata Allo Village, Gowa Regency, aims to improve maternal health literacy and prevent stunting through a technology-based approach. Given the high rate of stunting (23%) associated with low maternal knowledge of exclusive breastfeeding and limited access to information, the program is designed in three stages: preparation and planning, training and dissemination, and promotion and socialization. In the initial stage, coordination with partners and the preparation of SOPs are carried out. Furthermore, cadres are intensively trained to use the Ce T Ar application, which is an educational and communication medium. The app comes with breastfeeding guidance features, discussion forums, online counseling support, and baby growth monitoring. The results of the evaluation showed a 32% increase in maternal knowledge after training, with the understanding of the importance of exclusive breastfeeding increasing from 45% to 90%. As many as 85% of participants actively use the app, which has been proven to help them implement correct breastfeeding practices. In terms of mentoring, 18 out of 20 mothers managed to provide exclusive breastfeeding for six months, while 15 mothers have implemented local MP-breastfeeding based on household food. The program also produces key cadre mentors who will train cadres in other villages, ensuring the sustainability of this initiative. Thus, this program shows great potential in empowering the community to prevent stunting in Mata Allo Village.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) remains a global public health problem with low case detection rates, especially in developing countries including Indonesia. Low TB detection hinders efforts to eliminate TB by 2035. This study aims to review the factors that influence TB case detection based on the results of research conducted over the past five years. The method used was a literature review with articles retrieved from PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar for the period 2019–2024. The inclusion criteria included studies discussing individual, socioeconomic, environmental, and health system factors affecting TB detection. A total of 15 articles met the criteria and were analyzed thematically. The results showed four main groups of factors that influence TB case detection, namely: (1) individual factors such as knowledge, stigma, and seeking treatment behavior; (2) socioeconomic factors including poverty, education, and access to health services; (3) environmental factors such as housing density and home ventilation; and (4) health system factors including workforce competence, diagnostic facilities, and reporting systems (Gunawan et al., 2022; Mohammed et al., 2023; Liu et al., 2024). In conclusion, efforts to increase TB case detection require a multidimensional approach through strengthening the capacity of health workers, community empowerment, environmental improvement, and cross-sector collaboration. This sustainable strategy is important to achieve the WHO's End TB Strategy 2035 target (WHO, 2023).
