Abstract

Tidung Island, located in the Seribu Islands, faces serious challenges in maintaining environmental health due to increasing marine pollution. This pollution primarily originates from domestic waste, uncontrolled tourism activities, and the accumulation of hazardous pollutants such as heavy metals and microplastics. These conditions directly and indirectly increase the risk of environmentally-based health problems in coastal communities, such as skin diseases, respiratory disorders, and potential poisoning from exposure to hazardous chemicals. This situation is further exacerbated by the absence of an integrated and participatory environmental surveillance system, resulting in weak early detection of pollutant exposure and community response capabilities. This research was conducted using a descriptive qualitative approach through in-depth interviews, field observations, and documentation studies to obtain a comprehensive picture of the relationship between environmental pollution and public health. The research analysis utilized health ecology theory, which emphasizes the close relationship between physical environmental conditions, human behavior, and their impacts on community health. The results indicate that community involvement in environmental quality monitoring and health education is key to strengthening the community-based surveillance system. Thus, the community plays a role not only as a recipient of information but also as an active actor in maintaining environmental sustainability. This approach is expected to increase collective awareness and accelerate mitigation actions against health risks caused by pollution. The study's conclusions emphasize the importance of developing participatory surveillance systems that adapt to local contexts, particularly in island regions with limited infrastructure access. Further research recommends quantitative measurements of the biomedical impacts of pollutants, as well as the use of digital technology to develop more modern, efficient, and sustainable environmental monitoring systems.

Abstract

Hypertension is a major public health issue, especially among the elderly, due to its potential to lead to serious cardiovascular diseases such as stroke, heart attack, and kidney failure. Despite the high incidence of hypertension in the elderly population, many individuals remain unaware of the importance of managing the condition through lifestyle changes, including regular exercise. This community outreach program in RW 5 Banyumanik was designed to address these gaps by educating elderly individuals about hypertension and providing them with practical tools to manage the condition, particularly through hypertension exercises. The four stages of the program were carefully structured to ensure effective delivery and long-term impact. First, the socialization stage aimed to engage the community and raise awareness about the program's objectives. This was followed by educational sessions where participants learned about hypertension, including its causes, risks, and prevention strategies. The elderly were also introduced to specific hypertension exercises, which are designed to help control blood pressure by improving cardiovascular health and reducing stress. During the application stage, participants practiced these exercises under the supervision of trained health professionals, ensuring that they performed them correctly and safely. The final stage of the program involved monitoring and evaluation, where the participants’ understanding of hypertension and their ability to perform the exercises were assessed. Additionally, the program emphasized basic life support and first aid training, which proved beneficial in enhancing the elderly’s confidence in managing emergencies.Overall, the program was successful in improving the participants' knowledge of hypertension and empowering them with the tools to manage their health. The positive outcomes of this program highlight the importance of community-based health education and physical activity interventions in promoting healthier lifestyles for the elderly.

Abstract

This community service program was held with the primary objective of improving the understanding and skills of Posyandu Anggrek cadres in conducting technology-based stunting surveys using the Cara'de application. Stunting is a chronic nutritional problem that impacts child growth and development and requires targeted intervention. Therefore, Posyandu cadres, as the frontline of health services, play a crucial role in collecting accurate nutritional data. The training was designed in eight face-to-face meetings and facilitated by five people, consisting of three lecturers and two students from the Makassar Health Sciences College, so that the knowledge transfer process was more structured. The series of activities included focus group discussions (FGDs) to explore initial understanding, technical training discussing the application's features, hands-on practice so that cadres could practice using Cara'de, and intensive mentoring to ensure all participants could optimally master the new skills. Evaluation results showed that the cadres not only understood the concept of stunting surveys but were also able to practice using the application independently to support valid, accurate, fast, and real-time child nutrition data collection. This success confirms a significant increase in cadre capacity, both in terms of knowledge and technical skills. Furthermore, this program is expected to improve the efficiency of Posyandu cadres, strengthen the health database, and support the development of more targeted nutrition policies and interventions. Thus, this activity significantly contributes to strengthening the local government's efforts to reduce stunting rates in Gowa Regency and serves as a model for strengthening technology-based public health services in rural areas.

Abstract

STIKES Kesdam IV/Diponegoro as a higher education institution in the health sector has great potential in contributing to the development of the assisted area, especially through community service in the health sector. Based on the results of interviews with the Division in Charge of the Elderly at Rumpelsos Pucanggading, it is known that most of the elderly experience a decline in cognitive function that has an impact on their quality of life and independence. Managing cognitive impairment in the elderly requires a sustained and stimulation-based approach, such as picture-matching game activities, music therapy, gardening, and spiritual activities. As a form of promotive and preventive intervention, the STIKES Kesdam IV/Diponegoro community service team carried out cognitive stimulation activities through a game of matching pictures to the elderly at Rumpelsos Pucanggading. This activity is designed to stimulate the memory, concentration, and thinking skills of the elderly in a fun and interactive way. Seniors are actively involved in game sessions tailored to their abilities and interests. The results of the activity showed that the elderly responded positively to the games given, with increased participation, enthusiasm, and the ability to recognize and remember images. This intervention is considered effective in helping to maintain and improve the cognitive function of the elderly in a simple but meaningful way. This activity also strengthens the role of universities in supporting community health through educational and humanistic approaches. It is hoped that similar activities can be carried out in a sustainable manner and developed with a variety of other stimulation methods, so as to be able to have a wider impact in maintaining the quality of life of the elderly and preventing progressive decline in cognitive function.

Abstract

Stunting remains a major public health concern in Indonesia, including in Sumbawa Regency. Preventive efforts must be carried out upstream, one of which is through nutrition and health education for adolescents as future parents. This community service activity aimed to develop a digital-based educational media in the form of the RAMPES (Remaja Peduli Stunting/Adolescents Care for Stunting) website as an interactive learning tool to improve adolescents’ literacy in nutrition and health. The method applied combined participatory, educational, and co-creation approaches, including problem identification, digital content development, online and offline dissemination, and evaluation through pre- and post-tests. The product developed was a website containing digital modules, educational videos, presentation materials, and interactive exercises designed to match adolescent characteristics. The website was disseminated online via Zoom with the participation of 233 students from 47 senior high schools/vocational schools (SMA/SMK), and offline at five pilot schools: SMA Negeri 1 Sumbawa, SMA Negeri 2 Sumbawa, SMA Negeri 3 Sumbawa, SMK Negeri 1 Sumbawa, and SMK Islam Farmasi Sumbawa. Evaluation results indicated an improvement in knowledge, with the “poor” category decreasing from 21.6% to 16.2% and the “fair” category increasing from 40.5% to 45.9%. A more significant improvement was observed in attitudes, with the “good” category rising from 23.4% to 63.1% and the “poor” category decreasing sharply from 25.2% to 3.6%. These findings demonstrate that website-based education is effective in enhancing adolescent nutrition literacy and fostering positive attitudes toward stunting prevention. This initiative also supports the Bakti Stunting Program implemented by KCD DIKBUD Sumbawa and serves as a strategic innovation in the digital transformation of education and health sectors.

Abstract

Diabetic ulcers are a serious complication of diabetes mellitus that arise from damage to blood vessels and nerves due to uncontrolled blood sugar levels. This condition causes wounds, especially on the underside of the big toe or the soles of the feet. According to data from the Central Java Provincial Health Office, Semarang City ranks third out of 35 cities/regencies with a high number of diabetes cases. In 2022, 17,037 cases of diabetes were recorded, an increase from 15,250 cases the previous year. Nationally, according to the 2024 Basic Health Research (Riskesdas), diabetic ulcers are one of the leading causes of death across all age groups, accounting for 15.4%. In the 55–64 age group, the figure reaches 26.8%, in both urban and rural areas, while the youngest stroke cases are found in the 18–24 age group. Promotive efforts to control diabetic ulcers include optimal foot care for elderly people with diabetes, regular glycemic monitoring, and foot exercises to prevent new ulcers and reduce the risk of recurrence. Furthermore, health education involving elderly Posyandu (Integrated Service Post) cadres and their families is also an important strategy in reducing the incidence. The role of elderly Posyandu cadres is crucial, as they are expected to have adequate skills and understanding of foot ulcer prevention through education and practical foot care. The training provided to elderly Posyandu cadres has proven to be successful without significant obstacles. The enthusiasm of the community, particularly the cadres and their families, was high, participating in the activity until completion. This demonstrates a growing awareness of the importance of diabetic ulcer prevention, which is expected to reduce the number of cases in elderly people with diabetes and improve their quality of life.

Abstract

Perineal pain is a common complaint experienced by postpartum mothers due to the normal delivery process. The intensity of pain felt is subjective and can be different from individual to individual, influenced by physical conditions and pain management approaches applied by health workers. Effective pain management is essential to support the fulfillment of the basic needs of postpartum mothers and speed up the recovery process. This study aims to determine the effect of Kegel exercises on the intensity of perineal wound pain in normal postpartum mothers at Pelamonia Class II Hospital, Makassar. The research design used was a case study with a descriptive approach, involving two respondents who experienced postpartum perineal pain. Kegel exercises were performed regularly, and pain intensity was measured before and after the intervention on the third day postpartum. The results showed that both respondents experienced a decrease in pain intensity from moderate to mild after doing Kegel exercises. These findings suggest that Kegel exercises may be one of the effective non-pharmacological methods in reducing perineal pain in normal postpartum mothers. The conclusions of this case study confirm the importance of education and the application of Kegel exercises as part of holistic postpartum care. This research is expected to be a reference for health workers in improving the quality of maternal services through a simple, safe, and useful approach.

Abstract

Integrated Health Post (Posyandu) Ngadi Asih Surakarta implements Integrated Primary Services (ILP) services targeting pregnant women, toddlers, and breastfeeding mothers in support of the zero new stunting program. So far, the implementation has been limited to weighing and measuring. Problems have been identified, including the lack of health services and health education on stunting prevention. This is due to the limited knowledge and skills of cadres. The solution is an innovative Mother-Child Stimulation Program to Prevent Stunting (Prosiacting) at the Ngadi Asih Surakarta Posyandu. The activities carried out are Prosiacting Activation and Capacity Building for cadres in the form of training in Pregnancy Exercises, Baby Massage, and Oxytocin Massage. The implementation method has 6 stages: preparation, apperception, application of science and technology, mentoring, evaluation, and termination. The results of the Mother-Child Stimulation Program Innovation to Prevent Stunting (Prosiacting) have been well implemented at the Ngadi Asih Surakarta Integrated Health Post (Posyandu). Capacity Building activities for cadres were carried out well. The knowledge and skills of cadres have increased after the training, namely Pregnancy Gymnastics skills in the good category (75%), Baby Massage skills in the good category (80%), and Oxytocin Massage skills in the good category (90%). The Mother-Child Stimulation Program to Prevent Stunting (Prosiacting) has been activated. Cadres are committed to implementing the results of the training and Prosiacting routinely once a month during the Toddler Family Development activity. With the stunting prevention stimulation skills possessed by cadres, it is hoped that cadres will be able to independently accompany pregnant women, mothers of infants and toddlers, and postpartum mothers. It is hoped that this program will be routinely implemented at the Ngadi Asih Surakarta Integrated Health Post (Posyandu) as an effort to independently prevent Stunting in the Community.
