Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) and tuberculosis (TB) have a synergistic effect in worsening the disease severity and treatment outcomes. Chest radiography is the standard imaging modality for TB diagnosis, so identifying characteristic chest radiograph findings has the potential to accelerate early diagnosis and anticipate management in TB patients with and without DM. This study aimed to compare chest x-ray findings between tuberculosis patients with and without DM. This was a cross-sectional study of pulmonary TB patients who underwent posteroanterior (PA) chest x-ray at the Pulmonology Clinic of Haji Adam Malik General Hospital from January 2023 to June 2025. Data were obtained from patient medical records. Bivariate analysis used the chi-square test if the data were normally distributed, or the Fisher exact test if the data were not normally distributed. A p-value <0.05 was considered statistically significant. In TB patients with DM, 81.3% of patients had lesions in the upper lung fields, 65.3% had lesions in the middle lung fields, and 50.7% had lesions in the lower lung fields. The most dominant lesion characteristics were infiltrates (73.3%), fibrosis (42.7%), and consolidation (26.7%). In TB patients without DM, 36% of patients had lesions in the upper lung fields, 29.3% of patients had lesions in the middle lung fields, and 21.3% of patients had lesions in the lower lung fields. The most dominant lesion characteristics were infiltrates (44%), consolidation (25.3%), and fibrosis (18.7%). In TB patients with and without diabetes, the majority of patients had lesions in the upper lung fields, and infiltrates were the most dominant lesion.

Abstract

Spondyloarthritis (SpA) is a group of inflammatory diseases affecting the peripheral and axial joints, with a significant impact on patients’ quality of life and productivity. Diagnosis and evaluation of disease activity are often hindered by non-specific symptoms. This study aims to evaluate SpA disease activity using the Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Metrology Index (BASMI) at Dr. Soetomo General Hospital, Surabaya. This was a descriptive cross-sectional study using consecutive sampling. A total of 50 SpA patients were examined, with 45 meeting the inclusion criteria. Data were obtained through measurement of five BASMI components: tragus to wall distance, lumbar side flexion, modified Schober’s test, cervical rotation, and intermalleolar distance. The majority of patients were aged 17–60 years, with a mean age of 41.83 years, and were predominantly female (88.89%). Measurements showed that most patients had a tragus-to-wall distance of 10–12.9 cm, lumbar side flexion of >20 cm, modified Schober’s test of >7 cm, cervical rotation ranging from 59.6° to 68°, and intermalleolar distance between 70–79.9 cm and 50–59.9 cm. The total BASMI scores ranged from 0.4 to 3.8, with the majority falling within the range of 2–2.99. There is a variation in the degree of axial movement limitation among SpA patients as measured by BASMI, which can serve as a practical evaluation tool in clinical practice. In the assessment of each BASMI component, the average score showed a tragus-to-wall distance of 11.74 (+/- 3.46) cm, lumbar side flexion of 25.73 (+/- 8.94) cm, Modified Schober's test of 7.11 (+/- 2.27) cm, Cervical Rotation of 64.4 (+/- 11.5)°, intermalleolar distance of 64.69 (+/- 18.13) cm. In general, the results of BASMI measurements in the subjects showed limitations in axial and peripheral movements, which reflected the activity of SpA disease in this population.

Abstract

Clean and Healthy Living Behavior is a community effort to implement and practice clean and healthy living patterns in order to create a clean and healthy environment that can prevent the spread of disease. The purpose of Clean and Healthy Living Behavior is to increase knowledge, awareness, and progress of the community to live healthily and increase the active role of the community in efforts to realize an optimal standard of living. The benefits of Clean and Healthy Living Behavior are to increase public awareness so that they are willing and able to live a clean and healthy life, can prevent and anticipate health problems that they face. Adequate environmental sanitation is a prerequisite for actively adopting clean and healthy lifestyles. Poor access to clean water and sanitation facilities can increase the incidence of infectious diseases, diverting energy for growth to fight infection, making it difficult for the body to absorb nutrients, and stunting growth. Stunting is a condition of growth failure in children due to prolonged malnutrition and repeated infections, especially in the first 1000 days of life, which is characterized by height that is not appropriate for their age. Health education is the process of conveying information, skills, and understanding about health to the community with the aim of increasing knowledge, awareness, and healthy behavior and motivating individuals to adopt a healthier lifestyle. The community service activity was carried out in Cot Beut Village, Kuta Baro District, Aceh Besar Regency, with 24 participants. This counseling lasted approximately 50 minutes, consisting of material presentation and a question and answer session with participants regarding PHBS. The community was advised to adopt Clean and Healthy Living Behaviors to prevent disease.

Abstract

Laboratory services are an essential part of primary health care in community health centers (puskesmas). High-quality services support accurate diagnosis, timely treatment, and public trust. However, the 2024 community satisfaction survey indicated that the laboratory services at Puskesmas Awal Terusan still face several challenges, particularly in service speed and responsiveness to complaints. This study aims to analyze the quality of laboratory services from the perspective of service users and its relationship with patient satisfaction. The research used a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. Data were collected through questionnaires from 98 respondents who had used the laboratory services and were analyzed using descriptive and bivariate analyses (Chi-Square test and simple logistic regression). The results showed that, in general, the quality of services was rated as good, especially in terms of staff empathy, accuracy of results, and implementation of occupational safety. However, there were limitations in equipment availability, long waiting times for results, and low responsiveness to patient complaints, with the indicator “Handling of Complaints, Suggestions, and Feedback” receiving the lowest score in the survey. It can be concluded that the quality of laboratory services at Puskesmas Awal Terusan is generally good but still not optimal. Improvements in staff competence, equipment availability, and the complaint-handling system are needed to enhance patient satisfaction.

Abstract

Improving the nutritional quality of early childhood plays a very important role in supporting optimal growth and development, especially in the Bogor City area which still faces stunting problems. This activity aims to increase the understanding of kindergarten teachers and parents about the importance of balanced nutrition and the use of local food ingredients as well as serving healthy and attractive food. Seminars and workshops have been carried out, covering balanced nutrition materials, cooking techniques and serving healthy food menus, and the use of local food ingredients. In addition, the application of technology is carried out through mass media, YouTube, the Healthy Child Menu (MAS) booklet and the e-Mas application to disseminate information about the importance of balanced nutrition. Evaluation of this community service activity was carried out through pretests and posttests which showed a significant increase in participant knowledge, with a T = -3.500 and p value = 0.000, meaning there is an influence of knowledge about processing healthy food menus to fulfil the nutritional needs of pre-school children. This community service activity is expected to reduce the number of malnutrition in early childhood and encourage parents to use local food ingredients as an effort to maintain children’s health in kindergarten.

Abstract

Ginger waste, including peel and residue from herbal extract or beverage industries, still contains valuable bioactive compounds such as gingerol, shogaol, and zingerone. These compounds have significant potential as multifunctional bioactive ingredients in food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic applications. This review aims to summarize and compare various extraction methods for ginger oleoresin from waste materials, including conventional techniques (maceration and Soxhlet) and advanced green extraction methods such as Ultrasound-Assisted Extraction (UAE), Microwave-Assisted Extraction (MAE), and Supercritical CO₂ Extraction (SC-CO₂). The findings indicate that modern extraction techniques offer higher yield, shorter processing time, and greater selectivity of active compounds compared to traditional methods. Process modifications, including enzymatic pretreatment and three-phase partitioning, have been shown to enhance oleoresin recovery and quality. Key challenges include the development of green solvents, optimization of process parameters, and preservation of bioactive stability. Further research is needed to establish efficient and sustainable extraction approaches suitable for natural product research.

Abstract

Functional recovery after stroke is a complex process and is influenced by various factors, both previous health conditions and the quality of rehabilitation interventions. This study aims to analyze the relationship between cardiometabolic risk factors (age, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and comorbidities) and physiotherapy characteristics on the level of functional recovery of post-stroke patients at Karya Suci Physiotherapy Practice. The study used a cross-sectional design involving 40 post-stroke patients in 2025. Data analysis was performed using the chi-square test and Spearman correlation at a significance level of α = 0.05. The results showed that 20% of patients achieved functional independence. Hypertension (p = 0.003), diabetes mellitus (p = 0.008), and body mass index (p = 0.000) were significantly associated with the level of independence. Frequency (r = 0.820), duration (r = 0.442), and physiotherapy involvement (r = 0.776) had a positive correlation with functional improvement. Multimodal therapy combining Infrared, TENS, active exercise, and the Bobath method was shown to be more effective than therapy without electrotherapy (p = 0.002).

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the contribution of self-regulation to cyberloafing behavior among healthcare workers at the X Sub-District Community Health Center (Puskesmas). The research background is driven by the widespread internet usage in Indonesia, reaching 229 million users or 80.66% penetration rate in 2025 (APJII, 2025), which potentially leads to digital distractions such as cyberloafing that disrupt productivity and patient safety in the healthcare sector. A quantitative regression approach was employed with a sample of 104 respondents, utilizing the Self-Regulation Questionnaire adapted from Pichardo et al. (2014) (15 items, 1-4 scale) and the Cyberloafing Scale from Blanchard and Henle (2008) (8 items, 1-5 scale). Data were analyzed using simple linear regression via IBM SPSS version 26.0. The results indicate that self-regulation has a significant negative effect on cyberloafing (t = -12.042, p < 0.05; β = -0.621), contributing 58.7% (R² = 0.587). These findings suggest that enhancing self-regulation can suppress cyberloafing tendencies, recommending daily training programs and restricted internet access policies at puskesmas to improve service responsiveness.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between characteristics, knowledge, attitudes, and actions of Pulmonary Tuberculosis patients with medication adherence at Simpang Dolok Health Center, Batu Bara Regency. The study design used a quantitative approach with the Spearman correlation method to measure the relationship between variables. The number of respondents was 35 people selected purposively. The results showed that the knowledge variable did not have a significant relationship with medication adherence (r = -0.056; p = 0.748), while the attitude and action variables had a significant and positive relationship with adherence (attitude: r = 0.641; p = 0.000 and action: r = 0.568; p = 0.000). These findings indicate that the formation of positive attitudes and real actions of patients play a key role in the success of Pulmonary TB treatment, while knowledge alone is not enough. Therefore, health promotion interventions should be focused on strengthening attitudes and assisting patient actions so that compliance can be optimally improved.

Abstract

Medication use during pregnancy is a sensitive issue due to potential risks to both maternal and fetal health. Lack of knowledge among pregnant women about safe medication practices often leads to self-medication errors. The Movement of Smart Pregnant Mothers in Medication Use (GICMO) aims to improve pregnant women’s knowledge and awareness regarding rational and safe drug use during pregnancy. The method used was health education through leaflets, interactive discussions, and case simulations. The results showed an increase in pregnant women’s knowledge about drug safety categories and the importance of consulting health professionals before taking any medication, with an average knowledge score improvement of 35%. Based on the evaluation results before and after the activity, there was a 78% increase in participants’ knowledge regarding safe and risky drug categories during pregnancy, as well as an improvement in their awareness to always consult healthcare professionals before taking any medication. This activity demonstrates that structured health education can be an effective strategy to prevent medication-related risks during pregnancy
