Abstract

Rabies is a deadly zoonotic disease and remains a public health threat in Indonesia, including in Pematangsiantar City. Although preventable through vaccination and rapid intervention, cases of animal bites transmitting rabies (HPR) continue to increase. The government has implemented an Early Alert and Response System (SKDR) for rapid detection and response, but its effectiveness at the community health center (Puskesmas) level needs to be evaluated. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of SKDR implementation in preventing and controlling HPR bite cases at the BP Nauli Community Health Center in 2024 using a quantitative descriptive-analytical approach. Data were obtained through observation, interviews, and analysis of SKDR and PEP reports. The results showed that the majority of SKDR reports were complete (92.3%) and there were no reporting disruptions (92.3%). Fisher's exact test showed a significant relationship between SKDR implementation and disruptions in rabies reporting (p = 0.026). In conclusion, an optimal SKDR system improves the effectiveness of rabies reporting and response.

Abstract

This study aims to comprehensively examine the implementation of flood disaster management strategies by the Palembang City Government, particularly in the Seberang Ulu I and Seberang Ulu II districts, through a literature review approach. These areas are highly vulnerable to flooding due to their lowland topography and proximity to the Musi River. The study employs a review of various literature sources, including scholarly journals, government policy reports, and disaster management planning documents published between 2015 and 2024. The findings reveal that the implemented flood management strategies encompass three main stages: pre-disaster, emergency response, and post-disaster recovery. At the pre-disaster stage, the Palembang City Government focuses on enhancing community capacity through disaster education and the development of drainage infrastructure. However, the effectiveness of these strategies is still hindered by several challenges, such as limited budgets, lack of inter-agency coordination, and low community participation in mitigation programs. During the emergency response phase, the government’s reaction is considered relatively quick but has yet to be fully integrated with provincial-level disaster management agencies. This review concludes that flood disaster management efforts in Palembang require stronger policies emphasizing both structural and non-structural mitigation, cross-sectoral synergy, and increased

Abstract

This study was motivated by the complexity of flooding issues, which require synergy between knowledge, attitudes, social support, and the availability of resources to create effective community participation. The purpose of this study was to analyze how the three main factors in the PRECEDE model predisposing, reinforcing, and enabling affect the level of community involvement in flood mitigation. A qualitative approach using a literature study method was used to gain an in-depth understanding of the determinants of community behavior based on empirical and conceptual studies from various scientific sources. Data was obtained through a search of journals, research reports, and public policies relevant to the context of hydrometeorological disaster mitigation. The results of the study show that predisposing factors such as knowledge and attitudes have a dominant influence on community preparedness, while reinforcing factors such as social support and community leaders strengthen the sustainability of participation. Enabling factors, which include infrastructure, policies, and access to information, have been proven to increase the community's ability to take preventive action. These findings confirm that the effectiveness of flood mitigation depends on the synergistic integration of these three factors to create a community that is adaptive, resilient, and empowered in facing the threat of disasters in a sustainable manner.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the factors that affect the safety climate in the work environment of the Facility Management Services Area of South Sumatra. The safety climate is a shared perception of employees about the importance of occupational safety that reflects management's commitment and individual behavior to the application of safety principles. The research method used is a quantitative approach with a survey design using questionnaires distributed to employees in various operational divisions. The variables analyzed included safety leadership, safety communication, safety training, employee engagement, and organizational policies on safety. The data was analyzed using multiple linear regression to see the influence of each variable on the safety climate. The results showed that safety leadership and safety communication have a significant influence on the formation of a positive safety climate, while safety training and organizational policies provide an indirect influence through increased employee participation. In addition, this study also revealed that the relationship factor between workers also strengthens the overall perception of safety. These findings underscore the importance of the role of management and effective communication in building a sustainable safety culture in the facility management sector.

Abstract

Children commonly experience anxiety during hospitalization, especially when they are unfamiliar with the clinical environment. Therapeutic communication serves as an essential nursing skill that can reduce this anxiety and help young patients feel more secure. This study examines the relationship between nurses’ therapeutic communication abilities and the anxiety levels of hospitalized preschool children. Using a quantitative cross-sectional design, the research involved 48 participants selected through complete sampling, with data collected using structured questionnaires. Therapeutic communication was measured using a nurse communication assessment tool, while the Spence Children’s Anxiety Scale (SCAS) Preschool version was used to evaluate anxiety levels. The findings revealed that 22 respondents (45.8%) perceived nurses’ therapeutic communication as very poor, and 18 children (37.5%) showed moderate anxiety. Statistical analysis using the Spearman rank correlation test produced a p-value of 0.002 (p < 0.05), demonstrating a significant negative relationship between nurses’ therapeutic communication and anxiety levels among preschoolers at Santa Elisabeth Hospital Medan in 2024, with a correlation coefficient of 0.440. These results suggest that implementing structured training programs in therapeutic communication could enhance nurses’ ability to provide supportive and anxiety-reducing care for young patients.

Abstract

This community service activity was carried out as an effort to improve the safety of tourists in the Sendang Seruni water tourism destination, Tamansari Village, Licin District, Banyuwangi Regency. This location is one of the leading tourist attractions with natural panoramas and natural pools sourced from seven mountain springs. However, tourism managers, especially the Sendang Seruni tourism awareness group (Pokdarwis), do not have basic skills in handling emergencies such as water tourism accidents and adequate safety facilities. Based on these conditions, the service team from the Banyuwangi State Polytechnic carried out training and assistance in Basic Life Support (BLS) and First Aid in Accidents (P3K) involving 20 participants from Pokdarwis members. The implementation method includes location surveys, preparation of work plans, theoretical and practical training with professionals from PMI Banyuwangi, and evaluation of the results of activities. Participants were given an understanding of emergency handling such as artificial breathing, cardiac compression, and first aid in water accidents. The results of the activity showed a significant increase in the knowledge and skills of participants related to safety and first aid procedures, as evidenced by competency certification from PMI. In addition, the procurement of safety support facilities such as fire extinguishers, buoys, and P3K boxes also strengthens the preparedness of Pokdarwis in dealing with the risk of accidents in tourist areas. This activity is expected to be a sustainable preventive step in building a culture of tourism safety, as well as supporting the development of sustainable tourism in Banyuwangi.

Abstract

The Mandar people in West Sulawesi have a traditional coconut oil, "Lomoq Mandar," which is made from the abundant coconut in the area and is known to have health benefits, such as anti-inflammatory properties and natural moisture. This oil manufacturing business group has great potential in terms of natural resources and market opportunities, but it also faces technical, managerial, and marketing challenges that hinder the sustainable development of the business. This community service program aims to empower the traditional coconut oil manufacturing business group "Lomoq Mandar" in an effort to prevent pressure ulcers in bedridden patients. Pressure ulcers are a serious problem that can be prevented through optimal skin care, including the use of natural moisturizers. The Mandar community has great potential in making Lomoq Mandar, but faces challenges in health and business management aspects. The program is implemented in four stages: first, coordination and needs analysis with partners to understand the challenges at hand; second, the design and implementation of digital promotions through social media to expand market reach; third, training in the use of modern tools and business management to improve production efficiency; and fourth, program evaluation to measure the impact of activities. Results of activities After the intervention, Lomoq Mandar oil production increased from less than 40 bottles to 80 bottles per day, with sales turnover also increasing. The product now has professional packaging and complete legality, and SOP is implemented to ensure quality. Marketing strategies through social media have increased public awareness of the health benefits of the product. This program is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to health, hunger alleviation, and economic growth, and has succeeded in improving community welfare and business sustainability.
