Abstract

The lack of adolescent awareness about T2DM risk factors and prevention necessitates educational interventions. Health education plays a crucial role in transforming complex information into structured and comprehensible knowledge, enabling students to integrate new concepts with existing understanding for more comprehensive comprehension. This study aims to examine the knowledge level of 10th-grade students at SMA Negeri 2 Jakarta regarding T2DM risk factors and prevention before and after educational intervention, as well as to assess the intervention's effectiveness. The research employs an analytical-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test approach involving 75 respondents selected through convenience sampling. Primary data was collected directly from respondents, including personal identification information and evaluation results from pre-test and post-test questionnaires on T2DM educational material. The study has obtained necessary permits and ethical clearance. Data analysis was conducted using the Wilcoxon test in SPSS. Results demonstrate significant knowledge improvement, with average scores increasing from 45.58 (74.7% in poor category) in the pre-test to 79.35 (61.3% in good category) in the post-test. Statistical analysis revealed a significant difference (p < 0.0001) with a mean score difference of 33.77 points. The study concludes that health education effectively and significantly enhances students' knowledge about T2DM risk factors and prevention.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify the correlation between the duration of sitting and the intensity of lower back pain (Low Back Pain) complaints among employees of BNI KCU Metro, Lampung Province. Low Back Pain is one of the most common musculoskeletal conditions and can be triggered by prolonged sitting, which increases static load and pressure on the spine. This research employed an analytical observational method with a cross-sectional approach. The study sample consisted of 51 employees selected using a total sampling technique. Data were collected using a sitting duration questionnaire and the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire (NMQ) to assess LBP complaints. The results showed that the majority of employees sat for more than 4 hours per day (86.3%) and experienced LBP complaints (94.3%). The Chi-Square test indicated a significant relationship between sitting duration and LBP complaints (p = 0.001). It can be concluded that the longer a person sits, the higher the likelihood of experiencing LBP, highlighting the need for ergonomic posture application and regular muscle stretching during work.

Abstract

Stroke is a neurological condition characterized by sudden focal injury to the central nervous system due to cerebral infarction, intracerebral hemorrhage, or subarachnoid hemorrhage. In addition to the physical impact, stroke patients also experience psychological changes in the form of limited movement, communication, and thinking skills that can interfere with role functions and reduce self-esteem. This decrease in self-esteem has the potential to cause self-concept disorders, so family support is an important factor in helping patients accept the condition and maintain hope. This study aims to analyze the relationship between family support and self-concept in stroke patients at Santa Elisabeth Hospital Medan in 2024. The study used a quantitative design with a cross sectional approach and involved 42 respondents who were selected through a total sampling technique. Data collection was carried out using family support questionnaires and self-concept questionnaires. The results showed that most of the respondents had high-category family support (64.3%) and positive self-concept (83.3%). The Spearman Rank statistical test showed a significant relationship between family support and self-concept (p = 0.001) with a correlation coefficient value of 0.552 indicating a positive relationship with very strong strength. This study emphasizes the importance of family support in helping stroke patients accept changes in body functions and build a more adaptive self-concept.

Abstract

Introduction: Children with Special Needs (CSN) often have sensory and motor limitations, which increase their risk of experiencing household accidents, including burn injuries. Parents caring for CSN frequently lack adequate knowledge and skills in initial burn management, which can potentially worsen the child's condition and impede the healing process. This DAMKAR (Burn Injury Management Assistance) Program aims to enhance the competence of CSN parents at the Special School (SLB Kinarsih), located at Jl. Husein Hamzah Gg. Bhineka No. 27A, in providing prompt and appropriate first aid for burn injuries.Methodology: This community service activity (PkM) was implemented using the Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach, which emphasizes active collaboration among the implementation team, the target partner SLB Kinarsih, and the participants (parents, teachers, and caregivers of CSN). The implementation consisted of 5 stages: Preparation and Assessment (Weeks 1 to 3), Socialization and Education (Weeks 4 to 6), Practical Training and Simulation (Weeks 7 to 9), Implementation and Monitoring (Weeks 10 to 11), and Evaluation and Reporting (Week 12). Results: A significant increase was observed in the parents' average knowledge score, rising from 59.5 to 88.89. Furthermore, more than 90% of participants were able to correctly demonstrate the techniques for burn management and dressing during the simulation. This enhancement in skills provided greater confidence to the parents in handling burn emergency situations. Conclusion: The DAMKAR Program successfully improved the knowledge and practical skills of CSN parents in initial burn management. This program is recommended to be integrated as a routine module in CSN care training to minimize the risk of complications and enhance the quality of life for the child and family.

Abstract

Schizophrenia is a chronic mental disorder that significantly impacts social functioning, quality of life, and burdens families and communities. According to data from the Talang Jaya Betung Community Health Center, the number of schizophrenia cases increased from 45 in 2021 to 60 in 2024. This situation highlights the need for promotive and preventive efforts focused on improving public understanding of risk factors and the importance of early detection of schizophrenia. This community service activity aims to increase public and family knowledge about schizophrenia, its risk factors, and prevention efforts through a family-based educational approach. The implementation methods included mental health education, interactive discussions, distribution of educational media, and initial screening for schizophrenia risk factors in the community within the Talang Jaya Betung Community Health Center's work area. The target group was families with members at risk of mental disorders and the general public. Results showed increased public knowledge regarding the signs and symptoms of schizophrenia, risk factors such as family income, parenting styles, and family history, and increased awareness of the importance of the family's role in the prevention and early detection of schizophrenia. Furthermore, this activity also strengthens the role of health cadres in promoting mental health in the community. This community service activity is expected to contribute to reducing the risk of schizophrenia by strengthening the role of families and communities, as well as supporting community health center programs in promotive and preventive mental health efforts.

Abstract

Primary dysmenorrhea is a widespread condition affecting many adolescent girls, taking a serious toll on both their general well-being and their success in the classroom. Non-pharmacological interventions, such as dysmenorrhea exercises, are essential as safe alternatives to mitigate reliance on long-term analgesic use. The primary objective of this study was to evaluate whether dysmenorrhea exercises could effectively mitigate menstrual pain intensity in adolescent girls at SMPN 2 Sleman, Yogyakarta. The research was conducted using a quantitative pre-experimental approach with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The participants consisted of 18 female students selected via purposive sampling based on specific inclusion criteria (aged 12–14 years, experiencing menstrual pain, and having regular menstrual cycles). The exercise intervention was administered over two days, with a duration of 15–30 minutes per session. Pain intensity was measured using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS). Data was analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test with a significance level of α < 0.05. The results indicated a significant decrease in the mean pain score from 5.78 (pre-test) to 2.56 (post-test). The statistical test yielded a p-value of 0.000. A clinically meaningful change was observed, where the majority of respondents (88.9%) reported mild pain after the intervention, compared to the pre-intervention condition dominated by moderate pain (77.8%). These findings demonstrate that dysmenorrhea exercises are significantly effective in reducing dysmenorrhea pain intensity among adolescent girls. Consequently, this intervention is recommended as a non-pharmacological pain management strategy in school settings.

Abstract

Breast cancer is a deadly disease that not only attacks the body but also causes psychological effects such as depression, anxiety, and prolonged stress in patients. In dealing with their illness, subjects receive considerable social support from family, friends, and the community, which helps reduce pressure and build resilience. This study aims to explore more deeply the role of social support in building resilience in breast cancer survivors. This study employs a qualitative approach, utilizing a single case study. The subject is a 37-year-old female breast cancer survivor who works as a freelancer and is also a housewife. The subject has been suffering for 3 years and has shown resilience during her treatment. Data were collected through observation of the subject's behavior and semi-structured interviews based on Edith Gortberg's resilience guidelines. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman model with three stages: reduction, presentation, and conclusion. The results of the study showed that the subject experienced initial emotional trauma, such as fear, rejection, and isolation after diagnosis and the loss of a child, exacerbated by repeated surgeries and preoperative anxiety about skin grafts. However, social support from husbands, families, and communities, coupled with individuals' resilient, optimistic, and open-minded internal characteristics, coping skills, and good emotional management, significantly shaped their resilience, helping them rise from their state of despair.

Abstract

Family Planning (FP) and reproductive health consultation and counseling are essential strategies to improve adolescents’ knowledge, attitudes, and skills in preventing unintended pregnancy, sexually transmitted infections, and other reproductive health problems. This community service activity was conducted in Pupuan, Tabanan, on August 19th, 2025, using a nursing management–based approach in primary health care services, including planning, organizing, implementation, and evaluation of FP and reproductive health consultation and counseling for adolescents. The methods consisted of group health education, interactive discussions, and individual counseling delivered in structured service areas (registration and IEC desk, waiting area, private counseling room, interactive education room, and digital information booth) supported by presentation media, educational videos, and printed materials. The results showed an increase in adolescents’ knowledge and understanding regarding FP concepts, contraceptive methods, physical and psychosocial changes during adolescence, and the importance of maintaining reproductive health, as reflected in higher post-test scores and active participation during the sessions. Implementation of nursing management principles in service flow arrangement and nurses’ roles supported service quality, indicated by more orderly service flow, comfortable counseling atmosphere, and positive feedback on the clarity of information and the friendliness of providers. This program recommends strengthening and replicating FP and reproductive health consultation and counseling models based on nursing management in other primary health care centers as part of efforts to improve primary health care quality and achieve national FP and reproductive health targets.

Abstract

Cerme District in Gresik Regency has one of the highest rates of adolescent pregnancy, with 187 cases recorded in 2023 and 118 cases in 2024, according to the Gresik Regency Health Office (2025). This indicates that adolescent pregnancy remains a critical issue. Factors contributing to this issue include low reproductive health knowledge, insufficient parental involvement in sexuality education, and negative peer influence. This study used a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design, focusing on adolescent girls aged 11-20 years in the Cerme Public Health Center area. A sample of 98 respondents was selected through random sampling. Data was collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed using univariate and bivariate analyses with the Chi-Square test (p < 0.05). Results showed that most respondents were aged 14-16 years, with menarche occurring between 11-15 years, and their parents' education level was mainly senior high school. Most adolescents had good knowledge of pregnancy (96.9%), with 53% reporting good parental involvement, and 49% reported poor peer influence. The Fisher Exact Test indicated no significant relationship between knowledge and adolescent pregnancy (p = 0.228), but a significant relationship was found between parental role (p = 0.023) and peer influence (p = 0.006) with adolescent pregnancy. In conclusion, strengthening reproductive health education and improving communication between parents and children are essential to preventing adolescent pregnancy.
