Abstract

The health-related issues identified indicate that students have not yet developed sufficient skills in managing the School Health Unit (UKS), and existing health education programs have not been implemented optimally. From an educational perspective, students are proficient in only one foreign language, namely English, which may limit their broader communication competencies. Economically, many students’ parents work as traders and tour guides, highlighting the importance of equipping students with basic entrepreneurial and financial management skills from an early age. Socially and culturally, instances of bullying have been reported, while from an environmental perspective, students demonstrate limited understanding of proper organic and non-organic waste management. Based on fields assessment, the priority issues identified include strengthening adolescent health programs and utilizing school land to support food security initiatives. In response, the community service implementation team formulated integrated solutions addressing adolescent health, environmental health, and economic empowerment. In the health sector, the intervention focused on adolescent health education emphasizing reproductive health, balanced nutrition, and clean and healthy living behaviors. To support environmental health, demonstrations on processing organic waste into compost and using it as planting media for vegetables and fruits within the school environment were conducted, aiming to reduce mosquito breeding and prevent dengue transmission. In the economic sector, mental accounting training was provided to improve students’ financial literacy and personal financial management skills. The activities were delivered through presentations and interactive discussions. The results indicate that the program was effective as a promotive and preventive strategy to improve adolescent health and financial awareness.

Abstract

Stunting remains a major public health problem caused by chronic malnutrition and poor sanitation practices, particularly in developing countries. Adolescents, especially girls, play a crucial role in stunting prevention as future mothers, yet their knowledge related to clean and healthy living behaviors is often limited. This study aimed to analyze the effect of Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) education on the knowledge level of adolescent girls as an effort to prevent stunting. A quantitative pre-experimental study with a one-group pretest–posttest design was conducted among 68 female students at SMP ITech Pasim Ar-Rayyan using total sampling. Data were collected through structured pretest and posttest questionnaires, followed by PHBS education delivered through lectures and discussions. Data analysis included univariate analysis and bivariate analysis using the Wilcoxon test. The results showed a substantial increase in the mean knowledge score from 65.22 before the intervention to 98.09 after the intervention, with a statistically significant difference (p < 0.001). These findings indicate that PHBS education significantly improves adolescents’ knowledge regarding stunting prevention. This study implies that structured health education programs in junior high schools are effective strategies to strengthen early stunting prevention efforts and promote long-term healthy behaviors among adolescent girls

Abstract

Tension-Type Headache (TTH) is the most common type of primary headache and is often associated with psychological conditions, particularly anxiety. Engineering students represent a vulnerable population due to high academic demands, stress, and lifestyle factors. This community service activity aimed to increase awareness, knowledge, and early detection of the relationship between anxiety levels and the occurrence of TTH among Engineering students of the Faculty of Science and Engineering, Universitas Nusa Cendana. The activity was implemented through health education sessions, anxiety screening using the Zung Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS), and TTH screening using the Headache Screening Questionnaire (HSQ). A total of 72 Engineering students from the 2022–2024 cohorts participated in the program through proportionate stratified random sampling. The results showed a high prevalence of anxiety (83.3%), predominantly mild to moderate anxiety, and a high prevalence of TTH (66.7%). The screening results indicated a positive tendency between anxiety levels and the occurrence of TTH. This community service activity enhanced students’ understanding of mental health, stress management, and headache prevention. The program is expected to support the development of promotive and preventive mental health initiatives for university students, particularly within engineering education settings.

Abstract

Cognitive impairment is a common post-stroke consequence that has a significant impact on the patient's daily functioning and quality of life. This article presents a literature review of six recent studies, consisting of three multicenter cohort studies, two systematic review studies and meta-analysis, and one cross-sectional study, to examine the characteristics and implications of post-stroke cognitive decline. The findings show that post-stroke cognitive impairment is strongly correlated with activity limitations in both the early and long-term phases, as well as restrictions on participation in community life. In addition, cognitive impairment contributes to a higher functional load and decreases the patient's social adaptability. The various cognitive assessment instruments used in these studies emphasized the importance of early cognitive evaluation to detect cognitive impairment, predict functional outcomes, and design targeted rehabilitation interventions. The clinical implications of this review emphasize the need to integrate cognitive assessment into stroke care standards to improve rehabilitation effectiveness, support patient self-recovery, and improve long-term quality of life.

Abstract

Pulmonary tuberculosis remains a major public health problem, with medication non-adherence being a key challenge in achieving optimal treatment outcomes. Low motivation to take medication regularly increases the risk of treatment failure and drug resistance. This study aimed to analyze the effect of health education based on the Health Belief Model (HBM) on improving medication-taking motivation among pulmonary tuberculosis patients. A quantitative pre-experimental study with a one-group pretest–posttest design was conducted at Cikundul Public Health Center from October 2025 to January 2026. The study involved 15 pulmonary tuberculosis patients selected using total sampling. Data were collected using a validated and reliable motivation questionnaire administered before and after HBM-based health education. Data analysis included univariate analysis and bivariate analysis using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The results showed a significant increase in patients’ motivation to take medication after the intervention, with all respondents reaching a good motivation level in the posttest. Statistical analysis revealed a significant difference between pretest and posttest motivation scores (p < 0.001). These findings indicate that HBM-based health education has a significant positive effect on improving medication-taking motivation among pulmonary tuberculosis patients. The study implies that integrating HBM-based educational interventions into routine tuberculosis care may enhance treatment adherence and support the success of tuberculosis control programs.

Abstract

Tension-type headache (TTH) has a high prevalence among university students, a population characterized by intensive digital device use. This study aimed to explore the contribution of device usage duration and blue light filter implementation to the risk of developing TTH. To analyze the association between digital device usage duration and blue light filter utilization with the incidence of TTH among engineering students at the Faculty of Science and Engineering, Universitas Nusa Cendana. This study employed a quantitative correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. Participants were recruited using consecutive sampling, involving 68 students. TTH was identified using the Headache Screening Questionnaire (HSQ), while data on device usage duration and blue light filter utilization were collected through a structured questionnaire. Bivariate analysis was conducted using the Chi-Square test, followed by contingency coefficient calculation to determine the strength of association. A statistically significant association was found between digital device usage duration and TTH incidence (p < 0,05), with a moderate correlation strength. Conversely, no significant association was observed between blue light filter utilization and TTH incidence (p > 0,05). Digital device usage duration constitutes a significant risk factor for TTH among engineering students, whereas blue light filter utilization did not demonstrate a meaningful protective effect.

Abstract

An excessive gum display (EGD) refers to a smile that displays more than 2 mm of visible gingiva. Among dental patients, it is a prevalent aesthetic issue. It influences both psychological and aesthetic status since it typically lowers self-confidence. EGD is considered unaesthetic when smiling, thus many patients seek treatment to manage this condition. The etiology of EGD varies, with hypermobile upper lip (HUL) as the most predominant. HUL is defined as more than 8 mm of upper lip movement from rest to maximum smile. This article will discuss about the management of EGD caused by HUL, treated with coronally placed vestibulum. Case: A 28-year-old male patient came with a complaint of disproportionate gingival display. The patient felt that his gums were exposed too much when smiling. The patient was not confident with the condition. On maximum smile, 6 mm of gingiva was displayed due to hypermobile upper lip. The diagnose of excessive gum display was established. The treatment was coronally placed vestibulum, which done by relocating the attachment between the mucosa and the attached gingiva closer to the coronal. Follow-up results after 3 months showed a noticeable decrease in excessive gingival display. Discussion: Coronally placed vestibulum is performed on cases of EGD with the etiology of HUL. Through this procedure, the vestibule's limiting muscular pull is narrowed, reducing gingival display when smiling. Conclusion: Coronally placed vestibulum is a less-invasive treatment of choice for EGD caused by HUL.

Abstract

Continuous changes in society and its environment require the nursing profession to adapt and evolve. Nursing, as an integral part of society, will become irrelevant if it does not renew itself in terms of managing and organizing its professional life. This study aims to analyze the influence of the role of the head nurse on the performance of nurses in providing nursing care. The research method used is an analytical survey with a cross-sectional approach. Data collection was carried out using a questionnaire, then analyzed with a linear regression test at a significance level of α < 0.05. The results of the analysis show that the role of the ward head has an influence on the performance of practicing nurses in providing nursing care, which includes the functions of planning (ρ = 0.007), organizing (ρ = 0.005), directing (ρ = 0.008), and supervising (ρ = 0.006). These findings indicate that the managerial functions of the ward head play an important role in supporting the improvement of the performance of practicing nurses. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the managerial skills of ward heads in managing nursing services, provide ward management training for ward heads who do not yet have certification, and develop a competency-based ward head selection and appointment policy.
