Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze Ibn Miskawaih's thoughts on morals and their relevance at the University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta, where moral education in this era is very important, along with the times, technological developments, generations and models of social interaction. When the younger generation (students) easily get information through gadgets, the internet, and social media, they are increasingly unable to control themselves. The long-term result of this is promiscuity, perversion and moral degradation. In line with this, education in schools still prioritizes science in addition to moral cultivation, so education has a decline in moral quality. Long before the development of the times and technology, Islamic scholars and thinkers formulated the concept of moral education they might think far away about its contribution and relevance in the current era. The method used is qualitative descriptive, with content analysis, phenomenological, philosophical, and historical approaches. The results of the study concluded that Ibn Miskawaih was one of the thinkers in the field of moral education. Aspects of his thought include human potential al-nafs al-bahimiyyat, al-nafs al-sabuiyyat, al-nafs al-nathiqah. The goal of moral education is that mental attitudes encourage good deeds spontaneously. Educational functions: cultivation of noble morals, humanizing humans, cultivation of shame, moral education materials, namely applicable moral laws, educational methods namely tabi'i, advice, threats, flattery and praise. This concept is relevant to moral education at the University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta, namely by instilling tawhid education (prioritizing God the Creator), returning to the Qur'an and Hadith as guidelines and references, routinely worshipping the sunnah, teaching the concept of a just leader, upholding the truth, Islamic organizations (IMM, MPQ and AIK Mentoring), the concept of benefit for society, the concept of the world-hereafter and Islam-science for human piety.

Abstract

Taraba State is heterogeneous consisting of several ethnic groups with divergent historical origins, cultural activities, and religious belief systems. The different communities actively participate in collective endeavours such as agriculture and developing essential infrastructure including culverts, houses, and schools. However, after the creation of the State, the atmosphere of harmonious coexistence started to shift towards hostility. The study aimed at the comprehensive exposition of Islamic solutions to challenges facing Muslims in Taraba. This study's primary and secondary data were derived principally through structured interviews, participatory observation, and analysis of documentary sources. The study made some significant findings, including a cordial relationship between Muslims and non-Muslims. The challenges identified include internal divisions, limited political influence, self-centeredness and animosity within the Muslim community, flawed approaches of some scholars, and a decline in moral values among Muslims. Ethnic identity, indigeneity, and minority issues also contribute to the challenges. To address these challenges, the study recommends efficient Da’wah activities, the establishment of unified leadership, the revitalization of moral teachings, and the implementation of Islamic endowment (Waqf) practices. The effective implementation of these recommendations can help mitigate the challenges faced by Muslims in Taraba State.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to understand the Islamic education policy implemented during the New Order period, the challenges faced in its implementation, and its long-term impact on the development of Islamic education in Indonesia to date. By evaluating these policies within the broader context of national development, the study also examines their relevance to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education. Theoretical framework: This research is grounded in the theoretical framework of education policy and state–education relations, focusing on how political regimes exert control over religious education and integrate it into the national education system. The study also draws on theories related to educational equity and sustainable development to bridge the historical analysis with contemporary global goals. Literature review: The literature review includes a wide range of sources focusing on the New Order regime's political control, state-Islamic education relations, and the evolution of madrassas and pesantren. It also considers studies on the global movement towards inclusive and equitable education as framed in the SDGs. Methods: This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected through literature review and analysis of government policy documents, academic journals, and historical records. The data were analyzed descriptively to understand the policy shifts, ideological motivations, and socio-political dynamics surrounding Islamic education during the New Order era. Results: The findings reveal that the New Order's Islamic education policy marked a shift toward formal recognition of madrassas and religious education. Nevertheless, this came with centralized political control, suppression of academic freedom, and the influence of developmentalist and capitalistic ideologies. Over time, Islamic education has shown resilience and adaptability, increasingly aligning with the general education system and the inclusive goals set forth in the SDGs. Implications: The study underscores the importance of designing inclusive education policies that respect religious identity and academic autonomy in order to achieve SDG 4 and promote long-term educational equity. Novelty: This research provides a fresh perspective on the intersection between authoritarian politics and religious education and its implications for achieving sustainable educational development in Indonesia.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is how models of the application of Usul Fiqh are used as a basic source for solving Sharia-based economic problems. Where Usul Fiqh has always been considered an essential discipline for Muslims, it lies in its position that it can easily understand modern economic laws that are not covered by other sciences. In addition, the science of Fiqh Ushul is considered to help understand and solve problems surrounding furu'iyah or fiqhiyyah that continue to develop from time to time and from various uncertain situations and conditions. The method used in this study is qualitative, with a normative approach and analytical content. The primary source of this research is text documents related to this theme. The results of the study concluded that Ushul Fiqh is considered to be a solution to legitimize and provide support for the law regarding every economic activity in every field of the transaction (muamalah), as long as it adheres to the basic principles of law, namely not violating the text and maqhasid al-Sharia.

Abstract

Parental involvement in children's education is crucial in any cultural or religious context, including Islam. Education is highly valued in Islam, and parents are considered their children's primary educators and role models. Parents are responsible for imparting religious education to their children. Therefore, this study aims to explain the essential elements of Muslim parenting from the perspective of Al-Ghazali, explore the importance of parents’ involvement in educating Islam, and analyze the effect of the parents' participation on children. This study applied document analysis and interviews as data collection methods. Five parents were interviewed with open-ended questions. As a result, there are three critical elements in parenting, according to Al-Ghazali, namely knowledge acquisition, worshipping Allah, and relation and responsibility towards children. All the participants agree that parents’ involvement in nurturing Islamic education in children is significant besides only focusing on academic education. Some participants' opinions regarding the effect of parents’ involvement in educating Islamic teaching, namely curbing bad influences, good behaviour or akhlak, and clear guidelines for children. This finding potentially creates awareness and offers guidance to parents, encouraging them to enhance their efforts for the well-being of their children and families. It serves as a reminder that when individuals prioritize practising and preserving their faith, Allah, the Almighty, ensures the well-being of the family structure, leading to harmony within the broader community.

The results of the study found that the era of globalization has had a significant impact on Islamic education, including first, along with the increasingly sophisticated technology, it is easier to obtain various types of information. The task of national education in the era of globalization places great emphasis on the value system and philosophy, where the philosophy of Islamic education is the concept of thinking about education based on Islamic religious teachings regarding the nature of human abilities so that they can be developed and guided to become human beings whose entire personality is imbued with Islamic teachings. Second, the pressures of globalization place a qualified, educated and skilled workforce. Third, collaboration in schools is very important, especially the influence of globalization and international cooperation in the field of education. Thus, the relevance-integration of the concept and context of Islamic studies with the era of globalization is very important as an effort to appreciate the worldview of the dynamics and progress of education in the era of globalization.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to analyze the correlation between Islamic religiosity and mental well-being among college students and to identify the potential of religiosity in predicting mental well-being. This research contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3 on good health and well-being, by providing insights into the importance of religiosity in supporting mental well-being. Theoretical framework: The theoretical framework highlights the relationship between religious beliefs and mental health, where religiosity functions as an effective coping mechanism. Literature Review: Relevant literature indicates that religiosity is often associated with improved psychological well-being through stress reduction and enhanced life meaning. Methods: The study employed a correlational research design involving 32 college students as participants. The research instruments included the Islamic Religiosity Questionnaire and the Mental Well-Being Questionnaire, analyzed using SPSS software. Results: The linearity test confirmed that the data were linear, with a sig. Deviation from linearity value of 0.467 (> 0.05). The Pearson Product Moment correlation test results showed a p-value of 0.019 (< 0.05) and a correlation coefficient of 0.413, indicating a moderate positive correlation between religiosity and mental well-being. This suggests that higher levels of religiosity are associated with better mental well-being among college students. Implications: The implications of this study include recommendations for higher education institutions to integrate religious values into mental health support programs to advance the SDGs. These findings also provide a new perspective on a holistic approach to student mental health by considering spirituality as a significant predictor. Novelty: The novelty of this research lies in linking Islamic religiosity with mental well-being within the framework of SDGs, a topic rarely explored in previous studies.
