Analogy is considered a helpful way to help students visualize abstract concepts and assimilate new knowledge to an existing structure of cognitive. This study examines the effectiveness of the teaching with pictorial analogy models on students’ achievement and its retention of Direct Current lesson. A quasi-experimental method with one group pretest and (immediate and delayed) posttest design was employed in this study. The subjects consisted of 35 twelfth-grade students of public senior school in Pontianak City enrolled in the first semester of academic year 2017/2018; they were determined by using intact group random sampling technique. The student participants received instructions of the three pictorial analogy models. A parallel pretest-posttest of achievement test consisted of 10 items of factual knowledge, 10 items of conceptual knowledge, and 3 items of procedural knowledge. The operationalization of the pictorial analogies in this study referred to Glynn’s syntaxes. Data analysis found that: (1) the increasing of factual knowledge is 30.2 % in immediate posttest and 21.6 % in delayed posttest; (2)the students have promoted a significant conceptual change ( = 54.28, p < 0.05); and (3) there is a significant difference between the immediate posttest and pretest in terms of procedural knowledge (t = 4.02; p < 0.05) with the ES index is 4.78. It is concluded that the use of pictorial analogy models is effective (in high category) to increase students’ achievement of Direct Current lesson and the emergence of their retention is significant partially and simultaneously. In using pictorial analogies, teachers are encouraged to consider many similar features with the target concepts.

A geophysical research has been conducted to determine the level of hazard vulnerability in West Halmahera by using microtremor data. Microtremor data are analyzed using the Horizontal to Vertical Spectral Ratio (HVSR) method and it is processed using Geopsy software to know hazard vulnerability level in the region . Data analysis and processing are used as sources of information in physics learning materials using an integrated learning model. Research objectives are to train the students to understand the materials in the fields of study and to enhance other discovery ideas. This research method uses the correlational method and the type of research is experimental research. The research design is an uniquecase research design and the instrument used is tests and questionnaires. The results of this research indicate that the microtremor data using integrated learning models of integrated types have effect on the students’ Mastery of materials in the implementation of physics learning. The effect of the integrated learning model of integrated type on the students’ Mastery of materials on the concepts of vibration and waves is 16% and it is in low category. Whereas, the students' responses to integrated learning model of integrated type are quite fun and it can help to improve their mastery of the material on the concepts of vibration and waves.

Low image resolution has deficiencies in the diagnostic process, this will affect the quality of the image in describing an object in certain tissues or organs, especially in the process of examining patients by doctors or physicians based on the results of imaging medical devices such as CT-scans, MRIs and X-rays. Therefore, this study had developed a General Regression Neural Network (GRNN) type artificial neural network system to reconstruct a medical image so that the image has a significant resolution for the analysis process. The GRNN input layer uses grayscale intensity values with variations in the image position coordinates to produce an optimal resolution. There are four layers in this method, the first is input layer, the second is hidden layer, the third is summation, and the last layer is output. We examined the two parameters with different interval values of 0.2 and of 0.5. The result shows that the interval value of 0.2 is the optimal value to produce an output image that is identical to the input image. This is also supported by the results of the intensity curve of the RGB pattern matched between target and output.

The ring model of the coupled oscillator has enormously studied from the perspective of quantum mechanics. The research efforts on this system contribute to fully grasp the concepts of energy transport, dissipation, among others, in mesoscopic and condensed matter systems. In this research, the dynamics of the quantum propagator for the ring of oscillators was analyzed anew. White noise analysis was applied to derive the quantum mechanical propagator for a ring of four harmonically coupled oscillators. The process was done after performing four successive coordinate transformations obtaining four separated Lagrangian of a one-dimensional harmonic oscillator. Then, the individual propagator was evaluated via white noise path integration where the full propagator is expressed as the product of the individual propagators. In particular, the frequencies of the first two propagators correspond to degenerate normal mode frequencies, while the other two correspond to non-degenerate normal mode frequencies. The full propagator was expressed in its symmetric form to extract the energy spectrum and the wave function.

The quantum Diesel of a single fermion in 1D box system has been explored. The Fermion particle meets the Dirac's relativistic Hamiltonian with a chosen mass worth zero. This Relativistic Diesel engine research aims to obtain Diesel engine efficiency that utilizes massless fermion particles as a working substance. This study implements a modified analogy model of the classical analogue model to quantum with the implementation of the first law of thermodynamics for quantum systems so that quantum thermodynamic processes can be defined explicitly. The exploratory results of a single quantum fermion Diesel engine of a single massless system are efficiency formulation that is suitable for the efficiency of a classic Diesel engine, but its heat capacity ratio is unique, that is 2. Based on the value of heat capacity ratio, the efficiency is higher than the classical.

This study aims to examine the Problem-Based Learning(PBL) model to improve the understanding of electromagnetic induction material in three-phase induction motor. Most of the students attending the Electrical Machine course have low understanding upon the working principles of the three-phase induction motor, in particular the basic theory of the relationship between the electromagnetic field and the three-phase induction motor. This study involved seventeen students of Electrical Engineering Education Study Program of Universitas PGRI Madiun in East Java. Data were collected through observation and tests, with the statistical test of research using paired sample t-test. This quasi-experimentresearch employed one-group pre-test and post-test design. The results showed that the application of PBL model with video simulation and practicesimprove students’understanding of the materials. The learning process by utilizing simulated animation video and the practices of unloading three-phase induction motors directly, the students’understanding of the working principles of three-phase induction motors increases with the average of N-Gain score. These results indicate the use of video and hands-on practice become effective way to deliver complex and abstract material to students. It is also believed that the learning on electromagnetic induction can be carried out more efficiently. Additionally, such learning model is believed to ease physics education.
