This research aims to uncover the persona of John Theodoor Petrus Blumberger and his writings that depict the internal conflicts within Sarekat Islam (SI) during the period of 1917-1923, which constitute an important part of the history of the Indonesian national movement. This study is a qualitative research in the form of a literature review. The method employed in this research is the historical method, encompassing steps such as Heuristics, Verification, Interpretation, and Historiography. Furthermore, this research is presented through descriptive analysis. The analysis results indicate that Blumberger, as a government official, portrays the dynamics of Sarekat Islam influenced by the Socialist Communist Ideology propagated by the local SI of Semarang. Additionally, Blumberger's historiographical approach is neither skeptical nor provocative towards Sarekat Islam, as he merely presents his findings in accordance with the available archives. This approach is also influenced by the governmental background situated within the ethical political atmosphere, which led Blumberger to emphasize the role of the government as the protector of all the people in the colony in his works.

The presence of international exhibitions in the colonies was often organized by countries in Europe in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Semarang, in particular, once hosted the Colonial Exhibition, conceptualized in a modern way to introduce elements of modernity to the colonies. This research aims to examine the extent of indigenous participation in the colonial exhibition held in Semarang in 1914. The temporal scope is set in 1914 because that year became the time of the implementation of the Colonial Exhibition, which had previously been delayed several times. Using historical research methods in the form of heuristics by collecting primary and secondary sources. Primary sources used include Gedenkboek van de Koloniale Tentoonstelling Semarang, August 20 - November 22, 1914 and Officieele Catalogus Koloniale Tentoonstelling Semarang 1914. Followed by verification, interpretation, and historiography. The findings show that the organization of the Semarang Colonial Exhibition also involved all layers, from the top to the bottom. In fact, a special room was designed to attract indigenous visitors and set with a cheaper ticket price than other visitors. However, this did not result in an increase in indigenous visitors, and in fact was far from what was expected. Moreover, the organization of the Colonial Exhibition in Semarang contributed to the development of Semarang's southern district.

History as a subject tends to be less favored by many students. During the learning process, students often display low levels of attention and motivation. This issue is largely due to the lack of contextual and interactive teaching materials. A similar condition was observed in grade X-6 of SMAN 1 Boyolangu Tulungagung, where students showed low enthusiasm toward history learning. In response, the researcher developed digital teaching materials focusing on the role of K.H. Abu Mansur in the spread of Islam, specifically for grade X-6 of SMAN 1 Boyolangu Tulungagung. The materials were developed using the R&D method by Sugiyono. The aim was to produce teaching materials that meet the criteria of validity, feasibility, and effectiveness, while also enhancing students' learning motivation. The results showed that the flipbook teaching material was highly valid, with a material validity score of 89.9% and a content validity score of 91.1%. Small and large group trials yielded practicality percentages of 79% and 89.4%, respectively, indicating a high level of practicality. Student motivation increased significantly from 46.6% (low) to 80% (high). Theoretically, this study supports the development of digital technology-based history learning strategies. Practically, the developed materials offer an alternative to boost student motivation and engagement in history learning.

This literature-based study evaluates the pedagogical effectiveness of napak tilas (direct visits to historical sites) as an integrative method for strengthening students’ local-history literacy and character education. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, the findings show that multisensory experiences at heritage sites enhance factual retention and historical empathy, whereas structured methodological guidance limits narrative distortion. When embedded in project-based learning and aligned with the five stages of historiography (topic selection, heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and writing), napak tilas nurtures key values of nationalism, responsibility, and collaboration that correspond to the Indonesian “Profil Pelajar Pancasila”. The success of this method depends on equitable site access, supportive school policies, and teachers’ competence in source criticism. Schools are therefore encouraged to institutionalise napak tilas within the history curriculum, use virtual tours when physical visits are not feasible, and partner with museums as well as heritage communities to ensure scholarly validity and inclusivity.

The Japanese presence in Indonesia (1942–1945) had a significant impact on various sectors, including the economy and agriculture. Japan implemented various policies and regulations to control the agricultural sector to meet their war needs in Java. This research aims to analyze the agricultural transformation introduced by Japan, especially in the aspects of regulation and control which include the introduction of new commodities, the application of cultivation techniques, and the formation of farmer organizations in the Java region. This research uses historical methods that include heuristics, criticism of sources (internal and external), interpretation, and historiography. The results show that although Japan's agricultural policy brings modernization through new cultivation techniques, on the other hand it also causes negative impacts, such as food scarcity and labor exploitation. Thus, the transformation of agriculture during the Japanese occupation had a complex influence on the agricultural sector in Indonesia.

Until today, historical studies continue to evolve. The paradigm shift from traditional historical writing has ushered in a new phase for history as a scientific discipline. This study explores the pluralism of historical methodologies by reexamining the New History and Annales approaches in generating new themes within historical scholarship. The central issue addressed in this research concerns the limitations faced by historical studies in developing new and relevant topics. The study aims to provide a conceptual foundation and fresh perspectives on emerging themes in historiography. The findings reveal that methodological pluralism in history enables researchers to more easily identify and explore diverse research themes. History students and scholars are no longer confined to the traditional paradigm that centers solely on grand events and prominent figures. Contemporary historical writing offers a more inclusive, multidisciplinary, and socially relevant perspective, aligning historical inquiry with current societal issues. History is no longer viewed as an ivory tower of knowledge, but as a dynamic field capable of responding to real-world problems.

This study discusses the important role played by youth and women in the Indonesian National Awakening between 1908 and 1945. This study uses a history method. The activeness of youth and women who contributed to increasing national awareness, efforts to unite, and the development of the spirit of independence. Youth organizations such as Budi Utomo, Jong Java, and other youth organizations held the First Youth Congress and culminated in the Second Youth Congress which gave birth to the Youth Pledge. The Youth Congress succeeded in combining local identities into a united national spirit. Likewise, the women's movement led by figures such as R. A. Kartini, Dewi Sartika, and Roehana Kudus, highlighted the importance of education and liberation as a means to achieve equality and active participation in the struggle for independence. The Indonesian Women's Congress held in 1928 became a symbol of the strategic role of women in socio-political aspects. The findings of this study indicate that the struggle for Indonesian independence was not only driven by the elite class, the armed forces, but also by the strength of society from various backgrounds who had a high level of political awareness and nationalism. Therefore, youth and women are key actors in creating national identity and the direction of the nation's struggle towards independence.
