Abstract

Virtual public spaces have transformed the landscape of Islamic proselytizing (dakwah) from conventional-monologue patterns to digital-participatory ones. However, this transformation brings serious ethical challenges, notably the emergence of cancel culture and sharp polarization among the Ummah. This research aims to analyze how Islamic dawah ethics can be integrated into navigating digital conflicts to minimize division. Using a descriptive qualitative approach and an in-depth literature study, this research examines the digital interaction phenomena between preachers (da’i) and audiences (mad’u) across various social media platforms. The results indicate that cancel culture in the context of dawah is often triggered by narrow religious interpretations and a lack of digital literacy, further exacerbated by social media algorithms that create echo chambers. This study formulates a reorientation of digital dawah ethics based on the principles of Qaulan Layyina (gentle speech), Qaulan Ma’rufa (good speech), and digital Tabayyun. This reorientation demands that preachers not only master religious content but also possess digital intelligence to manage conflict without triggering polarization. In conclusion, dawah ethics in virtual spaces must be able to transform the culture of exclusion into a culture of constructive dialogue to maintain social harmony amidst the diversity of religious views.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the forms, causal factors, and implications of regional language interference in Indonesian-language Friday sermons through the perspective of cross-cultural communication. Friday sermons serve as a vital mass communication channel for transferring religious values; however, the linguistic dynamics in multilingual urban-suburban mosques frequently exhibit structural mixing. This qualitative study employed a descriptive case study approach. Data collection was conducted through non-participant observation, digital audio recording, and semi-structured interviews with six preachers (khatib) and ten congregants from various cultural backgrounds in West Java. The collected data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The results indicate that regional language interference occurs systematically at the phonological, lexical, and syntactic levels, predominantly driven by Sundanese and Javanese language structures. This interference is caused by the proximity of the preachers' mother tongue, psychological efforts to establish cultural intimacy, and situational demands to clarify complex theological concepts. In the cross-cultural communication perspective, regional language interference serves a dual function; on one hand, it successfully enhances emotional resonance and proximity for local congregants, but on the other hand, it triggers cognitive anxiety and decoding blockage for migrant congregants due to linguistic uncertainty. This research implies the importance of preachers balancing cultural contextualization with linguistic inclusivity to optimize the absorption of religious messages within a multicultural congregation.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the challenges of cross-border da'wah communication and the sociocultural adaptation strategies employed by preachers (dai) in the Frontline, Outermost, and Disadvantaged (3T) regions of Indonesia. Da'wah in 3T regions requires more than conventional lecturing due to severe geographical isolation, thick local mystical beliefs, cultural resistance, and minimal infrastructure. This qualitative study used a case study approach, collecting data through in-depth interviews, non-participant observations, and documentation from ten purposively selected operational field preachers. The collected data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model. The results indicate that preachers experience language barriers, low religious literacy, and severe structural limitations. To overcome these barriers, preachers adapt by shifting from oral preaching (da'wah bil-lisan) to action-oriented, community-based development preaching (da'wah bil-hal), utilizing interpersonal approach models, local language assimilation, and economic empowerment. This study implies that contextual da'wah adaptation significantly enhances religious acceptance and fosters socioeconomic resilience among marginal Muslim groups in border areas.

Abstract

The aggressive expansion of modern novelty retail (variety store) in Indonesia has triggered intense competition between domestic players and global chains, demanding local retailers to intelligently adopt digital communication media to bridge interactions and retain customer loyalty.1 However, the effectiveness of this digital interaction is often hindered by asynchronous communication barriers, such as delayed administrative responses, which can disrupt consumer shopping convenience.1 This study aims to examine and analyze the partial and simultaneous effects of product assortment and the effectiveness of digital communication media on customer loyalty expressed through Electronic Word-of-Mouth (e-WoM) at NICESO Tanjungsari, Sumedang Regency.1 Utilizing an associative explanatory quantitative design, data were collected in May 2025 from 100 active customers connected to the store's official communication channels using purposive sampling.1 The empirical data were analyzed using multiple linear regression.1 The results indicate that product assortment has a positive and significant partial effect on e-WoM (), emerging as the most dominant predictor.1 The effectiveness of digital communication media also shows a positive and significant partial effect on customer loyalty e-WoM ().1 Simultaneously, both variables significantly predict customer loyalty e-WoM (), contributing  to the model's raw explanatory power () and  after adjustment ().1 Grounded in Media Richness Theory and the Stimulus-Organism-Response (S-O-R) paradigm, retailers are advised to optimize interactive communication to minimize asynchronous communication barriers and foster customer advocacy in semi-urban environments.

Abstract

The rapid development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies, such as Large Language Models (LLMs) and generative AI, presents both disruption and immense opportunities within the contemporary digital dawah landscape. This study aims to thoroughly analyze strategies for utilizing AI in constructing Islamic texts and digital dawah content, while formulating a relevant Islamic ethical framework to preserve the authenticity and sacredness of Islamic messaging. Employing a qualitative descriptive-critical method with a case study and content analysis approach, this research evaluates various implementations of AI tools by preachers and Muslim content creators. The findings indicate that effective AI utilization strategies comprise four main stages: accelerating literature research and tafsir mapping, optimizing dawah draft writing, personalizing narratives based on audience segmentation (Gen Z and Millennials), and enhancing multi-format media production efficiency. However, integrating AI into dawah carries significant ethical challenges, including the risk of digital misinformation, dehumanization of spirituality, infringement on intellectual property and scholarly chains of transmission (sanad), and AI hallucinations regarding Islamic jurisprudence. Consequently, this study proposes an AI Dawah Ethical Framework grounded in the principles of maqasid shariah, digital tabayyun, and mandatory human-in-the-loop oversight before publishing digital dawah content.
