Abstract

This article discusses the concept of gender in polygamy kiai in Cirebon Regency. There are four polygamy kiais who are the resource persons in this study who use qualitative-descriptive methods as this method, with religious education backgrounds that are relatively different each other. Kiai is an important figure for the gender mainstreaming campaign in view of his position which is still considered important in the community. Moreover, gender-biased constructions very often, if not always, hide behind the cloak of religious truth. Their status as polygamy kiai are interesting to study the conception of gender behind them. The results of this study indicate that the views of all polygamy kiai who become the resource persons still have a gender biased construction with religion as the main justification for such views. This indicates that the socialization related to gender equality discourse is still not optimal or at least has obstacles precisely in an environment that has wider religious knowledge.

Abstract

This study examines the supporting and inhibiting factors of female leadership in Islamic elementary schools. This qualitative study collects data through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation studies. The collected data was validated using triangulation and member checking, and then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model. The selection of women to occupy essential positions in schools is based on their competence and experience. Women are given equal rights to develop curriculum managerial potential and abilities. As a result, female teachers increasingly have the same abilities and competencies, even better than men. The nature of women who are gentler, patient, detailed, and thorough is allegedly one of the reasons why leaders now prefer female teachers to be leaders in schools. Even so, good women's leadership competencies still experience obstacles to achieving the school's vision, such as; 1) Limited input of quality female human resources, 2) The inability of female leaders to condition their emotions when faced with the natural nature of women (during menstruation, pregnancy, and their obligations as wives and mothers), 3) work piling up, and 4) differences in perceptions between teachers Woman. However, these inhibiting factors can sometimes be countered by factors that support women's leadership, such as; 1) a supportive work environment, 2) a history of education that is linear with work, 3) adequate facilities and infrastructure, and 4) school regulations that support the concept of gender equality. The findings of this study refute previous opinions which stated that Islam is a religion that prohibits women from becoming leaders, but instead, this study provides new evidence that Islam is a religion that upholds the concept of gender equality.

Abstract

The gender mainstreaming (GM) policy was released 24 years ago. However, on the way, it still has not had a significant impact on the realization of gender equality and justice. In fact, in many cases, there has actually been an increase in violence against women and children in Indonesia. This article aims to explore the context behind the birth of regulations on gender mainstreaming in three districts (Pemalang, Pati, and Jepara) and to examine the effectiveness of the implementation of gender mainstreaming in the three districts. This article uses qualitative methods and field research. This article reveals several findings, including; First, the biggest challenge in implementing gender mainstreaming lies in the commitment and capacity of system actors in gender mainstreaming in each district; Second, the commitment of policymakers has not been accompanied by effective implementation and monitoring and evaluation. Therefore, it is necessary to bridge commitments, regulations, and policy implementation so that the implementation of gender mainstreaming is not trapped in formalities and even tends to be normative-administrative. More than that, gender mainstreaming must have an impact on gender equality and justice, disability, and inclusivity in society with its original goal.

Abstract

Islam as a rahmatan lil ‘alamin religion (as a mercy for all creatures), gives genuine recognition and high appreciation of human equality. All human beings are equal, because they come from the same source, Allah Almighty. Human being can be distinguished to another by the level of his obidence and complience. As a logical consequence, each person (read: male or female) has the same obligations and responsibilty to fulfill and have the same rights to accept. Unfortunately, the essence of the equality doctrine is often biased when the understanding of Islam has been contaminated by the patriarchal mindset so that there are many different views about women’s status and position, which are considered as inferior to men. On the other hand, women who are initially claimed to occupy only domestic or household jobs, for example, they now have started reaching the public domain which was originally considered an unusual thing, consequently they must perform the dual roles as housewives and as workers. Along with the rise of the controvercy over women in these dual roles, this paper will attempt to review those roles of women from the religion’s point of view, especially how Islam regards the presence of female workers.

Abstract

Women in the tradition of the heroic world of the archipelago has entered a “decisive” and “threatening” presence of people for some people. As a result of rebel attacks around the world pierced by gender, women should have a prominent place. But there are efforts to theological, sociological, and culture that strives to create a new birth of compliance “” and “spiritual obedience” to the world of gender, with women as abdun needs (subject). Compliance is sometimes a real tangible in silence as a zombie “-a woman who in her” by the attacks that are considered absolute doctrine. Not a few of them accept injustice, alienation, and even violence that never imagined before. It should be emphasized, that heroic woman in the world there are a number of ideas that always lead to wrong interpretation and the process of exclusion (exemption) for women.
