Abstract

As a developing country, Indonesia still suffers from inequality among classes. This inequality is reflected from unequal distribution in wealth owned by households. Thus, the descriptive information related to household wealth is an initial attempt to examine the composition and distribution of household wealth in Indonesia. This is a descriptive research, employing information from Indonesian Family Life Survey (IFLS) wave 5. The focus in this research is mean, median, and distribution of wealth components seen from age groups and quantiles perspectives. The results of this research are: (1) household wealth in Indonesia is unequally distributed. Even though the mean of total wealth is 147 million rupiah, but the middle household (median) receive 56.8 million rupiah. (2) The 10th decile is the wealthiest social class, with wealth more than 500 times bigger than the 1st decile. (3) From age group perspective, the 30-44 years old age group is the wealthiest. (4) There is the existence of negative net wealth. The negative net wealth required further action that cannot easily approached by the descriptive method. Keywords: household wealth, wealth distribution, negative wealthJEL Classification: D31; E01; E21; R20

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to analyze the effect of the tourism sector on the economy of Central Java province. The analysis method is a random effect model (REM) which is estimated using data from 35 regencies/cities in Central Java during some periods between 2001 and 2023. The result shows that the number of tourists, number of tourism objects, number of lodgings, number of restaurants, and number of workers on the tourist object, each has a positive significant effect on the real GRDP. Moreover, this research also found that there is a random effect on the regression coefficient of the number of tourists, number of tourism objects, and number of lodgings among regencies/cities in Central Java.

Assistance results in 15 villages in Gempol Subdistrict, Pasuruan Regency, show that village financial management software can be applied properly. Although there are still some difficulties in implementation due to the lack of skills of the village apparatus due to age and parameter constraints that need to be adjusted. In general, the software still needs to be refined related to the filling and storage stages that are still considered inefficient. On the other hand, a tutorial guide book that has been tested from several aspects is considered very adequate. The usefulness of the village financial management guide book is very helpful for beginners in applying village financial management software.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of household characteristics and children's living environment on child labor to reduce the likelihood of child labor occurrence. The data source of this research is Sakernas (Indonesian National Labor Force Survey) of August 2018, including school accreditation, household head gender, age, working sector, employment status, household size, dependency ratio, location, and school quality, towards the probability of child labor occurrence in Indonesia. Results suggest that the government must prioritize welfare programs for women household heads, asses the minimum age for marriage, improve education facilities, and increase parental awareness to eliminate child labor. The government needs to improve education infrastructure. This infrastructure improvement should be accompanied by the convenience of school access and its costs. The lack of education infrastructure, especialy in rural areas makes it difficult for children there to attend formal schooling.

Abstract

The low productivity of soybeans in Indonesia is one of the reasons why domestic production cannot meet market demand. In addition to suboptimal and contradictory government policies, they contribute to domestic soybean competitiveness against imported soybeans. The purpose of this study is to analyze the economic and financial profitability of farming, analyze the competitiveness status of soybeans, analyze the impact of government policies on soybean competitiveness, and analyze the sensitivity of domestic soybean competitiveness. This study applies the Policy Analysis Matrix (PAM). The results of this analysis are used to observe two basic indicators to measure competitiveness and assess the role of government policies. This research uses a case study of soybean farmers in the Jember Regency area. The analysis results show that the soybean farming business in Jember Regency is capable of generating economic profits. Soybean farming in Jember is capable of producing comparative and competitive advantages. Furthermore, the policy analysis reveals that the impact of the soybean policy on farming in the region is not yet optimal. Therefore, new governance policies are needed. Parameter analysis in the PAM analysis indicates that price and productivity variables have a potential role in increasing production and domestic soybean competitiveness.

Abstract

Fiscal sustainability is a concern in many economies, especially with increasing government debt in many countries, including Indonesia. This study aims to analyze fiscal sustainability in Indonesia for the 1970-2018 period. There are two methods to measure fiscal sustainability: testing the stationarity of government debt using government budget constraints and estimating fiscal sustainability using the fiscal reaction function. Error Correction Model is used to estimate the fiscal reaction function. The fiscal sustainability test with the debt stationarity test and the fiscal reaction function had consistent results, indicating fiscal sustainability in Indonesia. The government responded well to the increase in debt by increasing the primary surplus. This study proves that the relationship between debt and primary balance is not linear or quadratic. It shows that initially, the government responds to an increase in debt by increasing its primary surplus. However, at a certain threshold, the government’s ability to respond will weaken, so the government needs to pay attention and maintain the size of the government debt ratio towards Gross Domestic Product with fiscal discipline and fiscal reform through strict regulations and prudent debt management. However, strict debt regulations can limit economic growth. Therefore, an accurate threshold calculation is needed to determine the maximum debt to encourage optimal economic growth.

Abstract

This study aims to measure the role of BPRs in monetary transmission to MSMEs, especially in Municipality and District of Bogor that geographically bordering directly. Determination of these two areas is intended to understand the credit depth of BPRs in relation to regional economic growth, and the results are expected to avoid economic disparity in both regions. This study used VECM model to measure the causality between credit depth and economic growth, and OLS to measure the relationship between poverty to unemployment and credit depth. The VECM model showed uncertainty of Granger's causality between credit depth and economic growth. This explained that it takes higher credit depth of BPRs to promote economic growth. For Municipality of Bogor, changed of credit depth by 1 basis point, reduce poverty by 3.51 basis points, and changed in unemployment by 1 basis point, change poverty in the same direction by 0.09 basis points. Meanwhile, in District of Bogor, changed of credit depth by 1 basis point, reduce poverty by 6.95 basis points, and changed in unemployment by 1 basis point, change poverty in the same direction by 0.26 basis points. Keywords: monetary transmission, MSMEs, rural banks, povertyJEL Classification: E50; G21; R58

Abstract

Physical reorganization programs in some slum areas have been carried out massively by the government, but there has been no initiative to empower the community's economy, so it is very important to know how the pattern is being carried out independently. This study aims to analyze the pattern of community economic empowerment, especially related to community income as a result of physical reorganization in the Mojo slum area in Surakarta city. However, until now there has been no analysis of the income of the Mojo community after the implementation of the physical reorganization program. So to be able to find out, a qualitative descriptive methodology is used by collecting data through document studies and interviews with stakeholders and local communities. Based on secondary data and observations, an analysis of life sustainability was carried out using pentagonal assets, so that reliable assets could be known, and from the interview results it was known the impact on community income and empowerment patterns. As a result, it can be seen that in the pattern of implementing community empowerment independently, the role of intermediaries is very dominant, and in the end can provide resilience in the income level of the community. So it can be said that the increase in community income as one of the indicators in the economic empowerment of the community in Mojo is strongly influenced by the pattern and important role of intermediaries.
