Abstract

The COVID-19 outbreak has influenced Indonesia's economy and prompted an investigation. The study aims to assess the impact of sustainable economic development and digital payments on household consumption demand in Indonesia. It employs consumption theory, sustainable development theory, and digital payment systems. The study's independent factors include Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP), population density (PD), the Human Development Index (HDI), the Environmental Quality Index (EQI), electronic money (EM), debit cards, ATMs, and credit cards. The dependent variable is household consumption demand (CD). The data consists of a combined panel of annual data from 2020 to 2023 and cross-sectional data from 33 Indonesian provinces obtained from the Bank Indonesia and Central Bureau of Statistics websites. The research takes a quantitative approach and incorporates panel data analysis techniques. The data analysis techniques utilized are the Hausman Test, Heteroskedasticity Test, Correlation Test, Pesaran's CSD Test, FGLS Test, and PCSE Test. The findings suggest that sustainable economic development, as measured by GRDP, has a favorable and significant impact on household consumption. Population density has a favorable and considerable impact on household consumption. The HDI has a large negative impact on household consumption, whereas the household EQI has a positive and significant effect. Digital payments, particularly credit cards, have a favorable and considerable effect on household consumption. Improving health and education can increase people's awareness of a healthy lifestyle, reducing their consumption of unhealthy or unnecessary goods.

Abstract

Monetary policy transmission mechanism has a complex process since its implementation it involves changes on banking sector, economic actors, the length of time in implementing policies, as well as changes in monetary policy transmission channels according to economic condition of the country. This study aims to examine how consumption and investment respond to monetary shocks that occur in Indonesia. These results indicate that the impact of monetary policy on consumption due to changes in interest rates is larger and more sensitive than investment, according to the impulse response test. The main channel of the effect of policy shocks obtained from consumption is transmitted to output. Therefore, the monetary policy issued by Bank Indonesia will have a greater impact on household spending than corporate spending. This means that channel consumption is the main mechanism of transmission.

Abstract

The financial inclusion gender gap is one important issue that has become a global concern because financial inclusion can enhance women's empowerment in many aspects. Using the Fairlie Decomposition method, this study aims to describe whether there is financial inclusion gender gap in Indonesia and analyze what factors contribute significantly to the gap. It is one of the earliest analyses of the household financial inclusion gender gap and its underlying causes in Indonesia using the decomposition method, which is considered the most suitable for quantifying each factor's contribution to the gap. The findings reveal that female-headed households have less access to financial inclusion. The biggest contributions of this gap are explained by differences in socioeconomic characteristics among genders, such as the limitations of the female-headed household in owning a mobile phone, the lower participation in the formal labor market, and the lower level of education. Thus, policies that only focus on removing financial inclusion barriers from the supply side are not effective enough because differences in characteristics among genders or from the demand side have become the prominent cause of the financial inclusion gender gap.

Abstract

This paper aims to examine the role of civic society on e-governance adoption and to investigate factors that affect the performance of village-owned enterprise as well as the impact. This study is descriptive research using qualitative approach. Using in-depth interviews and direct observation to informants, the study maps some problems associated with the strategy of e-governance adoption on village-owned enterprise Pangkah Wetan. The case shows that the lack of civic society participation, which is typical across different organizations, does contribute to this problem. However, the main predicament lies with the fact that a good corporate governance principle is never explicitly prioritized in the organization’s information systems strategy. E-governance adoption should consider both technological innovation and organizational environment, including role of civic society. Neglecting one aspect poses the apparent danger that the implementation is unlikely to bring about benefit to the organization. This paper presents the case of a village-owned enterprise in adopting good corporate governance principles in developing rural economy. It is expected that this case will help substantiate an instance of good governance adoption in a village-owned enterprise and latecomer development, which might impact the operation and performance of a village-owned enterprise.

Abstract

This study investigates the relationship between the sharia stock index and market capitalization in Indonesia for the period 2011-2019. This study uses secondary data, it is monthly time series data with 97 months observation period from May 2011 until March 2019. The analysis technique of this study is the granger causality test that is complemented by the impulse response and variance decomposition test. the findings of the study indicated that there was only a one-way causality relationship between the sharia stock index variable and market capitalization, which only the changes of market capitalization in the past affected the changes of the sharia stock trading value in the present but not vice versa.  The effect of market capitalization changes will be responded strongly by sharia stock in the second and third month, and then return to a new stable condition. Furthermore, the changes in the value of market capitalization provide a sizable and continuous contribution to the changes of sharia stock trading value

Abstract

The measurement of welfare level is one of the success benchmarks of a country's developmental program. Welfare assessments in the form of subjective well-being (SWB) can complement the objective measures. In assessing SWB, economists use happiness and life satisfaction questions. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the factors that influence individual happiness in Indonesia. The panel data from the last two waves of the Indonesia Family Life Survey (IFLS), namely IFLS 4 (2007) and IFLS 5 (2014) were used. The analytical tool was panel data regression with a fixed effect approach. The results showed religiosity, generalized trust, altruism, and education-age interaction significantly affected happiness levels. This study implies the higher the year of education, the more positive the effect of age on happiness level. Furthermore, the control variables, namely marital status, subjective health, perceived safety, and per capita expenditure are significant, while unemployment affected the happiness level of only the male sample. The government and public figures in Indonesia may promote initiatives that facilitate religiosity, trust, and altruism development, for instance, promoting activities that require involvement from different stakeholders in the community. They also should become role models showing altruism and religiosity.

Abstract

Timor-Leste’s cross-border trade involves the people of the two countries on the border. Cross-border trade, which was originally facilitated by the government of Indonesia and East Timor by providing a common border market, has been closed since the Covid-19 pandemic. As a consequence, illegal transaction activities continue around the border with an unconventional approach and run outside the control of the state. The study aims to determine the effect of transaction costs, institutional changes, black markets on the welfare of people in border areas directly or indirectly. Explanatory research is a method approach used with PLS (Partial Least Square). The results of the study show that the direct relationship between constructs is positive, except that the transaction cost on welfare is negative. The indirect effect of transaction costs and institutional changes on welfare through the black market is positive. The factor of low transaction costs and changes in people’s behavior and income causes the trading process to be outside the government’s permit. Another supporting factor is the ease of accessibility in the form of proximity to mileage, means of transportation, and the similarity of economic needs. Black market practice is unlawful, and the state loses revenue. Keywords: Transaction Cost, Institutional Change, Black Market, WelfareJEL Classification: D60, F10
