Abstract

Abstract

Objective: This study reconstructs a comprehensive philosophical theory of intellect (ʿaql) in the thought of Ibn al-Jawzī (d. 597/1201) in order to examine his distinctive articulation of moral rationalism. Method: Drawing on systematic textual analysis of his major works, Kitāb al-Adhkiyāʾ, Talbīs Iblīs, Dhamm al-hawā, al-Ṭibb al-rūḥānī, Ṣayd al-khāṭir, and Minhāj al-qāṣidīn. Result: The article demonstrates that Ibn al-Jawzī develops a coherent philosophical anthropology in which the intellect occupies an architectonic position. Within this framework, the intellect functions as the governing faculty over passion (hawā), the primary safeguard against satanic epistemological deception (talbīs), and the foundation of ethical praxis and moral self-discipline. This model of intellect-centered moral rationalism is then situated within a sustained hermeneutical dialogue with classical Sufi epistemologies that privilege the heart (qalb), as represented by al-Junayd al-Baghdādī, al-Ḥakīm al-Tirmidhī, Abū Ṭālib al-Makkī, al-Sarrāj, al-Ghazālī, and Ibn al-ʿArabī. The comparative analysis reveals fundamental epistemological divergences between Ibn al-Jawzī’s rationalist ethical framework and the experiential–intuitive orientation of classical Sufism. Conclusion: By foregrounding Ibn al-Jawzī as a systematic moral rationalist, this study contributes to contemporary debates in virtue epistemology and Islamic psychology, offering a refined conceptual lens for understanding reason, ethics, and moral formation in classical Islamic thought.

Abstract

Research examining the psychological condition of congregants during the practice of dhikr and its impact on inner peace remains relatively limited. Objective: This article aims to explain the process through which inner peace is formed among members of the Annisa Dhikr Assembly (Majelis zikir Annisa) in Matesih, Karanganyar, Central Java, Indonesia. Method: This study employs a qualitative approach using a phenomenological method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and participant observation and were analyzed to capture the congregants’ subjective experiences while engaging in dhikr practices. Results: The findings indicate that congregants’ experiences of inner peace are dynamic and shaped by several key dimensions, including physiological, psychological, spiritual, and social support aspects. The interaction among these dimensions contributes significantly to the emergence of feelings of calmness and inner tranquility. In addition, inner peace is influenced by contextual factors such as the presence of the dhikr leader, the leader’s vocal intonation during the dhikr recitation, the style of delivery, and the congregants’ level of understanding of the meaning and practice of dhikr. Conclusion: These findings suggest that dhikr functions not merely as a religious ritual, but also as a psychospiritual experience that plays an important role in fostering inner peace among congregants.

Abstract

Maqāṣid al-Syarī‘ah is the philosophical foundation of Islamic law that aims to realize welfare and prevent harm in human life. However, the classical formulation of maqāṣid al-Syarī’ah, which focuses on protecting the five basic needs (al-Dharūriyyāt al-Khams), faces serious challenges in responding to the complexities of contemporary society. Objective: This article aims to analyze the paradigm shift of maqāṣid al-Syarī’ah from a protection and preservation approach to a development and rights-based approach. Method: Using qualitative-descriptive methods through a literature review, this study examines the contributions of Ibn ‘Asyur and Jasser Auda’s thought in reconstructing the maqāṣid al-Syarī’ah as an adaptive and systemic framework for Islamic legal philosophy. Results: The results show that contemporary maqāṣid al-Syarī‘ah is no longer limited to individual interests but extends to universal values such as social justice, human rights, religious freedom, and collective well-being. Conclusion: This article asserts that contextualizing the maqāṣid al-Syarī‘ah is a methodological necessity to maintain the relevance of Islamic law in addressing social, legal, and humanitarian challenges in the modern era.

Abstract

The rapid development of information and communication technology (ICT) in the 21st century has significantly transformed the landscape of Islamic education. Objective: This study explores the process of forming children’s religiosity through a combination of manual and digital learning (blended learning) at Al-Azhar Cairo Islamic Elementary School, Banda Aceh. Method: Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, this research investigates how blended learning serves as a pedagogical model to harmonize digital flexibility with spiritual depth. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation from teachers and students actively engaged in religious instruction. Results: The study finds that integrating manual learning—which emphasizes direct interaction, modeling, and moral habituation—with digital media such as Qur’an learning applications, interactive videos, and online platforms, fosters a balanced development of students’ cognitive, affective, and psychomotor religious dimensions. Teachers play multidimensional roles as murobbi (spiritual educator), mu’allim (knowledge transmitter), murshid (spiritual guide), and uswah hasanah (moral exemplar). Conclusion: The study concludes that digital learning, when positioned as enrichment rather than substitution, can strengthen children’s religiosity and promote an adaptive Islamic education model aligned with the digital era while preserving spiritual authenticity

Abstract

Pronunciation is a fundamental component of English language learning that directly affects learners’ intelligibility and communicative competence. Among EFL learners, particularly those from Indonesian backgrounds, the pronunciation of the English phonemes /l/ and /r/ poses a persistent challenge due to first language interference, limited phonological awareness, and insufficient exposure to native-like input. Objective: This study aims to review and synthesize existing literature on students’ ability to practice English pronunciation, specifically the /l/ and /r/ sounds, through the use of songs as a learning medium. Method: Employing a qualitative literature review approach, this study analyzes findings from peer-reviewed journal articles, conference proceedings, and relevant academic sources related to pronunciation instruction, phonological difficulties, and song-based language learning. Results: The review reveals that songs provide repetitive, rhythmic, and authentic phonological input that supports pronunciation development while fostering a low-anxiety and motivating learning environment. Although previous studies highlight the positive impact of songs on learners’ engagement and pronunciation accuracy, research focusing explicitly on /l/ and /r/ pronunciation remains limited. Conclusion: Therefore, further empirical investigation is recommended to strengthen instructional practices in EFL pronunciation teaching.

Abstract

Although the determination of the beginning of prayer times has been clearly indicated in the Qur’an and Hadith, these sources primarily provide normative and descriptive guidance without offering precise technical parameters for accurate calculation in diverse geographical contexts. This gap has led to variations in practice and the need for a more systematic approach that integrates religious texts with scientific principles. This study aims to analyze and compare methods for determining the beginning of prayer times from the perspectives of the Qur’an, Hadith, and modern science. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, this research is based on library research by examining classical Islamic texts, contemporary scholarly works, and scientific literature related to astronomical calculations. The findings show that the Qur’an and Hadith emphasize direct observation of natural phenomena, particularly the position of the sun and the formation of shadows, as the primary basis for determining prayer times. In contrast, the scientific approach maintains these scriptural foundations while applying systematic calculations to achieve greater accuracy and consistency. From a scientific perspective, the determination of prayer times relies not only on textual interpretation but also on astronomical and geographical factors, especially solar declination and the equation of time. This study contributes to the discourse on Islamic worship practices by demonstrating that the integration of scriptural guidance and scientific calculation is essential for ensuring accurate, practical, and contextually relevant determination of prayer times in the modern world

Abstract

This study examines the application of the Behaviorally Anchored Rating Scales (BARS) model in principal supervision and its contribution to staff and teacher performance as well as school administration transparency. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, the research draws on a structured literature review, limited observations, and contextual analysis of school administrative practices in Indonesia. The findings indicate that the integration of the BARS model into school supervision enhances administrative objectivity by anchoring performance evaluations to observable behaviors, thereby reducing subjectivity and performance deviations. The study further reveals that the presence of a School Performance Operator as an administrative liaison strengthens communication, accountability, and trust between school leadership, staff, and teachers. Additionally, BARS-based supervision supports transparent decision-making processes and fosters a participatory administrative culture within schools. These results suggest that the BARS model serves not only as an evaluative tool but also as a developmental framework that promotes performance stability and institutional transparency. The study contributes to the discourse on educational administration by highlighting the importance of structured, behavior-based supervision models in improving governance and accountability in school settings.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to examine how students manage personal finances within a digitally driven culture and to analyze the extent to which financial literacy and social media exposure influence consumptive behavior and impulsive buying tendencies. Method: The research employs a qualitative-analytical approach through a critical review of recent empirical literature, interpreted using contemporary frameworks of digital consumer behavior that integrate economic, psychological, social, and digital perspectives. Result: The analysis shows that students’ consumptive behavior is shaped not only by limited financial literacy but also by algorithm-driven digital environments, social media pressures, weak self-control, and the internalization of digital lifestyle values. The accessibility of online transactions and pay-later services further blurs the boundary between needs and wants, intensifying consumption beyond students’ financial capacity. Conclusion: The study proposes a contextualized financial literacy framework for Gen Z that integrates cognitive, emotional, and social dimensions. Strengthening financial education through holistic and digitally responsive approaches is essential for universities and educational institutions to promote healthier, more sustainable financial habits among students in the contemporary digital ecosystem.

Abstract

This study examines the role of website-based digital history writing in advancing the decolonization of history education within the Primary Teacher Education Program (PGSD). Grounded in a qualitative descriptive approach, the research involved 40 second-year PGSD students participating in a semester-long digital history project that emphasized local historical inquiry, archival research, and digital storytelling. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and analysis of student-produced website content and reflective journals. The findings indicate that digital history projects facilitate the validation of local knowledge by enabling students to critically juxtapose colonial archives with oral and community-based sources. This process contributed to a significant transformation in students’ historical consciousness, shifting from traditional and exemplary orientations toward critical and genetic levels. Moreover, the integration of website media fostered digital literacy, ethical awareness, and reflective historical thinking, positioning students as active producers rather than passive consumers of historical narratives. Despite challenges related to digital inequality and ethical representation, the study demonstrates that digitalization, when aligned with decolonial pedagogy, offers a powerful framework for developing inclusive and contextually grounded history education. The findings underscore the potential of digital platforms to support epistemic justice and to prepare future elementary teachers to implement decolonized history learning in schools.
