Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of implementing the Project Based Learning (PJBL) learning model on improving students' critical thinking skills in learning Natural Sciences (IPA) in class VI MI Riyadlatul Athfal Hulaan Menganti Gresik. The method used is Classroom Action Research (CAR) which is carried out in two cycles. Data were collected through observation, tests, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The results showed that the implementation of PJBL was able to increase teacher activity from 77.5% in cycle I to 100% in cycle II. Student activity also increased from 77.08% to 93.75%. The average value of student learning outcomes increased from 75 in cycle I to 93 in cycle II, with the percentage of learning completion increasing from 64% to 89%. These findings indicate that PJBL is effective in improving students' learning outcomes and critical thinking skills. PJBL allows students to be actively involved in completing projects, thinking scientifically, and applying concepts in real contexts. Thus, this model is worthy of being used as an innovative learning strategy in learning science in elementary schools.

Abstract

Character education is a critical focus in early childhood and primary education, including the development of collaboration and mutual cooperation as part of the Pancasila Student Profile. However, Civic Education in Grade I at MI Sunan Ampel Gadingwatu Menganti Gresik is still dominated by one-way, teacher-centered methods with limited student collaboration. This study aims to explore the implementation of the Project Based Learning (PjBL) model in fostering the value of cooperation among first-grade students through contextual and participatory learning. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, with data collected through observation, interviews with the principal, teachers, and students, as well as documentation of project activities. The results reveal that PjBL enables students to share roles, communicate actively, and assist one another during group projects. The value of cooperation grows through habituation, shared responsibility, and positive peer interactions. Students showed behavioral shifts from individualistic tendencies to cooperative habits, supported by the teacher's role as a facilitator of character education. This study concludes that PjBL is not only effective in enhancing learning outcomes but also in building essential social values for primary education

Abstract

This study aims to develop a learning media in the form of cartoon puppets based on local wisdom to enhance critical thinking skills of elementary school students. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE model which consists of five stages: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The research subjects were fifth-grade students of UPT SD Negeri 188 Gresik. Instruments included expert validation sheets, teacher and student response questionnaires, and pretest-posttest items. Validation results from content and media experts showed that the developed media is highly feasible, with feasibility percentages of 95% and 97%. The implementation phase revealed an increase in average student scores from 74.5 (pretest) to 88.75 (posttest), and mastery learning improved from 50% to 85%. These findings suggest that cartoon puppet media based on local wisdom is effective in improving students’ critical thinking while instilling cultural values in the learning process. Thus, this media can be considered an innovative alternative for contextual and character-based learning.

Abstract

  This study aims to develop magazine-based teaching materials using the Problem Based Learning (PBL) approach to enhance critical thinking skills among fifth-grade students at MI Roudlotus Shibyan Beton Menganti Gresik. The background of the research stems from the lack of engaging and contextual teaching media and students' low critical thinking skills due to monotonous learning materials. This research adopts the ADDIE development model, which includes five stages: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. Data collection instruments include observation, interviews, questionnaires, and pretest–posttest assessments. Validation results showed that the teaching material was categorized as reasonably feasible to highly feasible, with average validator scores of 60% and 91%. Implementation results revealed positive student responses, with a practicality score of 83.5% and an increase in critical thinking from an average score of 35.75 to 84.25. These findings are supported by theories and prior studies emphasizing the effectiveness of PBL in fostering critical thinking skills. In conclusion, the magazine-based teaching materials integrated with the PBL approach are effective in enhancing student engagement and critical thinking in IPAS subjects.

Abstract

The low creative thinking skills of third-grade students at SD Miftahul Ulum Menganti Gresik serve as the background for this research. Observations and interviews with teachers revealed that learning was still conventional, lacked interactive media, and did not adequately stimulate student creativity. This study aims to develop a Problem Based Learning (PBL) model integrated with the Game Kahoot to enhance students’ creative thinking skills. This research is a development study using the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation). Data were collected through observation, questionnaires, pretest and posttest, and interviews. Validation results from experts indicate that the learning tools, including Kahoot media and teaching modules, are categorized as “Highly Feasible” with a feasibility percentage of 93%–95%. The trial results show a significant improvement in students’ creative thinking, with mastery learning increasing from 9% (pretest) to 100% (posttest), and the average score rising from 47.7 to 90. Students' responses to the media were also very positive, with an average practicality score of 94.6%. Thus, the PBL model based on Game Kahoot is proven to be feasible, practical, and effective for use in IPAS learning to enhance creative thinking in elementary students.

Abstract

  Abstract: This study aims to improve the poetry writing skills of fourth-grade students at SD Miftahul Ulum Tlogobedah Menganti Gresik through the implementation of the Natural Environment Approach (PLAS). The research was motivated by the low poetry writing skills of students due to limited real-life experiences and the predominance of monotonous lecture methods. This research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design using the Kemmis and McTaggart model, conducted in two cycles with 22 student participants. Data were collected through observation, tests, documentation, and field notes, and analyzed using descriptive qualitative and quantitative methods. The results showed a significant improvement in students’ poetry writing skills, from an average score of 2.77 (69.88%) with a mastery level of 13.64% in Cycle I to an average score of 3.51 (87.78%) with a mastery level of 100% in Cycle II. All assessment indicators—diction, figures of speech and style, creativity and coherence, and theme suitability—improved, with the greatest increase observed in creativity and coherence (from 50% to 89.77%). Thus, the PLAS method is proven to be effective in enhancing poetry writing skills through contextual, meaningful, and engaging learning.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low student engagement in learning and the suboptimal development of social attitudes such as cooperation, responsibility, and communication among third-grade students at MI Roudlotus Shibyan Beton Menganti Gresik. Teacher-centered learning and the lack of integration of local cultural potential were identified as the main research gaps. This study aimed to develop a Problem Based Learning (PBL) model based on local wisdom using the traditional game congklak as a learning medium, to examine the model’s validity, practicality, and effectiveness, and to improve students’ social attitudes. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach with the ADDIE model, consisting of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation stages. Data were collected through observation, interviews, questionnaires, tests, and documentation, and analyzed using quantitative descriptive methods. The validation results for the learning tools, materials, media, and student worksheets indicated a “highly feasible” category with percentages above 91%. Students’ responses to the model were categorized as “good” (75.6%), while post-learning social attitude assessments averaged 96% (very good), with the highest scores in cooperation and respect indicators (97.5%). The findings confirm that the PBL model based on local wisdom through congklak media is effective in fostering students’ social character and increasing their engagement in the learning process.

Abstract

The teaching of Akidah Akhlak is ideally aimed not only at knowledge acquisition but also at fostering students’ creative thinking skills. However, in practice, learning is still dominated by conventional methods such as lectures and memorization, leading students to become passive and less able to explore ideas. This creates a gap between the ideal goals of Akidah Akhlak learning and classroom reality. This study aims to analyze the effect of the Self Directed Learning (SDL) model on the creative thinking skills of grade VIII students at MTs Syarif Hidayatulloh Kemuning Kedamean Gresik. The research employed an experimental method with a One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The sample consisted of 24 purposively selected students of class VIII-A. Data were collected through observation, tests, questionnaires, and documentation, and analyzed using a paired sample t-test. The findings revealed a significant improvement in students’ creative thinking, with the average pretest score of 74.80 increasing to 89.38 in the posttest. Teacher activities scored an average of 84% (very good), while student activities improved from 60.4% (fair) to 76.0% (good). Students’ responses were highly positive, with 94% agreeing or strongly agreeing with SDL implementation. In conclusion, SDL is effective in enhancing students’ independence, creativity, and engagement in Akidah Akhlak learning.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the advantages, challenges, and optimization efforts of the digital library at MI Baitussalam, Dusun Betiring, Desa Banjarsari, Kecamatan Cerme. This research employed a qualitative descriptive method, with data collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. The results indicate that the digital library offers several advantages, including modern facilities, e-books, Smart TV, and internet access, which support interactive and flexible learning. However, its utilization faces several challenges, such as low student reading interest, limited number of computers, lack of innovative digital literacy programs, and occasionally unstable internet connection. Optimization efforts include reading literacy programs, the use of Smart TV, parental involvement, addition of computers, teacher training, and enrichment of digital collections. In conclusion, the digital library at MI Baitussalam has great potential to improve students' literacy, but its effectiveness requires collaborative support among the school, teachers, students, and parents, as well as sustainable innovative literacy programs.

Abstract

This study aimed to improve the creative thinking ability of third-grade students at MI Tarbiyatul Ulum Pengampon Menganti Gresik through the implementation of the Mind Mapping method. The research employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted in two cycles, each consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The participants were 20 third-grade students. Data were collected through observations of teacher and student activities, creative thinking tests, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was carried out using qualitative descriptive and quantitative techniques. The results showed an improvement in teacher activity from 60.2% in Cycle I to 82.0% in Cycle II, and student activity increased from 52.7% to 82.3%. In addition, students’ creative thinking abilities—covering fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration—also improved significantly in Cycle II. These findings indicate that Mind Mapping effectively helps students organize information visually, understand conceptual relationships, and develop ideas more creatively. Therefore, the Mind Mapping method is appropriate as an innovative learning strategy to enhance creative thinking skills among lower-grade students in Islamic elementary schools.
