Abstract

Scarcity of resources and environmental quality degradation stimulatedgovernment policy toward a new concept of Eco-Industial Park inmanaging and developing industrial estate in Indonesia. For applyingthe concept of EIP need conducted measurement of recent industrialestate status to EIP. This Article aim to develop a measurementinstrument and to measure some selected industrial estates.Measurement using developed instrument indicate that most industrialestastes have low status. The low status is generally influenced by thelowering of value at enviromental management and product exchangeindicators.

Abstract

In Indonesia, the serious problems of degradation water quality from nonpoint source pollution was not yet many applied on watershed. Agricultural activities such as cultivation and application of fertilizer and pesticide will influence water quality, with activities in runoff-producing zones and near streams having a greater effect than those elsewhere. Water quality integrates all sources of pollutants. Nonpoint sources, by definition, are diffuse and not easily identified or quantified. The control technologies and best management practice available are generally expensive to beimplemented. AGNPS model is a model hydrology that should used to identify and quantify the nonpoint source pollution from watershed. The AGNPS is an event-based model that simulates surface runoff, sediment, and nutrient transport primarily from agricultural watersheds. In addition, the model considers point sources of water, sediment, nutrients, and chemical oxigen demand (COD) from animal feedlots, and spring. The model has the ability to output water quality characteristics at intermediate points throughout the watershed network. Seven parameters were selected out of twenty two parameters based on their significance in sensitivity to hydrology, erosion and sediment, and nutrient yield output. That seven parameters consist of SCS curve number, Manning’s roughness coefficient, cover and management factor, land slope, channel sideslope, practice factor and fertilization availability factor. Omitted parameters in the hypothetical scenario formulation were either parameters of uncontrollable nature such as rainfall, EI30, soil erodibility, or parameters that had least significant sensitivity such as field slope length and channel slope. The simulation with BMP system has been conducted from the parameter adjustment for seven parameters. The BMP scenario was mosteffective in reducing the degree of volume and peak runoff rate by 32,08% and 29,66% from the base value of 0,53 inches and 118,51 cfs. All erosion and sediment related nonpoint source pollutants were significantly reduced by 66,36% from the base value of 135,67 tons by altering the cover and management factor (C-factor) and the practice factor (P-factor). At the time that, total N dan total P were significantly reduced by 56,85% and 57,92% from the base value of 11,15 lbs/acre and 7,01 lbs/acre with that same of methods.

Abstract

The catchment area “Citarum” has been being in a very critical condition relating to extremely environmental problems. River water pollution in this catchment is obviously caused by industrial and domestic waste water. Nowadays the pollution load is already too high and the BOD, COD contents exceed the WHO standard. The activity evaluating groundwater environment in the up steam of the catchment area has the objective wich is to monitor the effect of groundwater pollution brought about by decreasing of surface water quality in upstream Citarum. The observed locations are village Suleman, Mekarrahayu, Margarahayu and Nanjung. They are all in Bandung regency. The four observed locations can be as representative for the three parts of upstream Citarum, ie. Upper, middle and lower part. Results of the evaluation are able to described groundwater quality condition, especially in the upstream Citarum cathment area.

Abstract

Chrome is a substance belong to high toxicity heavy metal group which can causeboth acute and chronic poisoning. One of the methods that can be used to reduceits concentration is biosorbtion with bagasse biomass. The objectives of the studywere to understand the chrome concentration before and after absorbed, as wellas to understand the amount of the most effective biomass. The study was an experimental with three treatments of which consisted of eightrepetitions. The sample was synthetic liquid waste and the treatment absorbentwas bagasse biomass which was processed as activated carbon of 10, 15, and 20grams weight. The chrome concentration were measured by using AAS method. The results showed that the chrome concentration before treated was 10,196mg/l, and the average of the reduction from the three absorbents weight were:0.174 mg/l, 0,099 mg/l, and 0,011 mg/l respectively. It can be concluded that there were reduction differences amongst the threetreatments, and 20 gr absorbent was the most effective one (99.88 % reduction). It is advised for further study to apply the bagasse for processing liquid waste fromindustrial activities.

Abstract

Residential solid waste is being a critical problem in many cities including Jakarta. Community-based management is the most important strategy even when sophisticated treatment such as bio-energy or waste industrial park would be implemented soon, as every waste processing needs separated wastes. Increasing the participation through community-based management is more effective than change people’s perception and behavior on domestic wastes. In some cases, to change community behavior in waste separation and recycling need more than ten years i.e. at Kampong Banjarsari, but with appropriate support system on social planning only took two years i.e. Kampong Rawajati. The implementation constraint of this programme is on replication or expandability of the programme to implemented in another place. There are also lack of government’s significant efforts to push and to support that action. It’s true that some communities develop the same model, but without acceleration and expandable programme, the significance of that effort is very poor. This study tried to ellaborate the model of a system based on spatial analyses to determine residential typology and found five residential types i.e. high,middle-high,middle,middle-lower and lower level of residential, quantitative analyses to determine typology of community participation and found four types of community participation i.e. moral-normative, moral-remunerative, calculative-remuneraive and calculative- coercive. Qualitative analyses had been ellaborated to determine authority or goverment policies typology especially on strengthening the government institution and limiting the scope of government function. Breaking down from these classification, three strategies could develop, namely community participation strategy, infastructure development strategy and institutional management strategy.Implementation of these models could accomodate the heterogeneity ofcommunities and give positive impact on social acceptability.

Abstract

Coastal areas in Muncar Banyuwangi has developed one of the largest fisherys industry centers in Indonesia. Fisherys industry in the production process using a fish as a main input and also need a lot of clean water. The impact of these activities is the occurrence of environmental pollution in the form of liquid waste and the unpleasant smell. Cleaner produktion is minimization of waste from source. The application of cleaner production with its assessment and identification to production process will create any innovations. In the cleaner production method contains several strategies that can be implemented forreducing and minimizing of industrial waste including prevention, recycling, treatment and disposing. One of prospective instruments that can be developed further in the industrial implementation of cleaner production is fisherys industry at Muncar Banyuwangi. The main opportunities to implementation of cleaner production, especially in stages using excessive water in the process of weeding and cleaning fish, stage of the main raw material the use of fish by re-sorting a more effective, and efficient charging process scattered on the tin.Key words : Cleaner production, fisherys industry

Abstract

Waduk Cirata is multipurpose cascade dam that lay in the middle of Citarumwatershed. Based on some reports, the water quality of this dam significantlydecreased to bad condition. This condition may be harmful to some equipmentsgenerating electricity power and also aquaculture product utilizing cages (KJA).The result of intensive observation during carps (Cyprinus carpio) culture periodconcluded that its aquaculture water changed into polluted called Eutrophicenvironment. There is correlation between eutrophication and lack growth of fishes in some cages. It is indicated by dominant increase of fish length than the increase of the weight of fish which is called as a negative allometric of fish growth.
