Abstract

Ihtikar or the practice of hoarding goods with the aim of obtaining excessive profits is one of the actions that is prohibited in Islam. This prohibition is based on the principle of Maqasid al-Shari'ah which aims to realize benefits and justice in economic life. This article analyzes the concept of ihtikar from the perspective of sharia economic law with the Maqasid al-Shari'ah approach to see the extent to which the prohibition contributes to the protection of people's rights and economic stability. The novelty of this research lies in the analytical approach to the prohibition of ihtikar using the framework of Maqasid al-Shari'ah, which has not been explored in depth in the context of sharia economic law in Indonesia. Using a qualitative research method based on literature studies, this study found that ihtikar is contrary to the goals of sharia, especially in the aspects of hifz al-mal (protection of property) and hifz al-nafs (protection of life). The ihtikar ban aims to prevent economic exploitation, create a fairer distribution of wealth, and maintain market balance. In addition, the principle of justice in sharia economic law affirms that every individual has the right to access goods and services at a reasonable price without any adverse monopoly practices. Thus, the prohibition of ihtikar is not only an economic rule, but also an instrument to achieve social welfare and economic justice in an Islamic perspective.

Abstract

Abstract

The relationship between individual life cycles and consumption behavior. The life cycle, which includes stages such as childhood, adolescence, young adulthood, adulthood and older people, significantly impacts consumption patterns. The research aims to analyze the concept of life cycle and consumption behavior from an Islamic economic perspective. This type of research is classified as qualitative research. Primary data was obtained through interviews with 17 Muslim people in West Pasaman Regency. Data sender was obtained from books and journals related to the Islamic economic perspective's life cycle and consumption behavior. The results of this study show that each stage of life is characterized by different needs, priorities and income levels, which directly influence consumption decisions, for example, those aged 10 to 15 years consume more fast food without paying attention to health. In productive age, there is a difference in a person's consumption level, namely that some of them consume more by prioritizing desires than needs and others prioritize saving and buying goods according to their needs. When you are no longer productive, you are more likely to save money for future needs. From an Islamic economic perspective, consumption cannot be excessive and must be in accordance with Islamic consumption principles.

Abstract

This article examines the concept of Islamic philanthropy from the perspective of Nahdlatul Ulama and Muhammadiyah, based on the shift in the meaning of philanthropy compared to the classical understanding. Experts emphasize that philanthropy is a fundamental element in Islamic teachings, as seen in its various forms such as zakat one of the five pillars of Islam as well as infaq, sadaqah, and waqf. Therefore, philanthropy has a strategic position in the lives of Muslims. Although the meaning of philanthropy in the context of modern society has changed, the substance of philanthropy as an act of giving and spreading benefits remains unchanged. Islam plays a central role in building civilization, both through the spread of religion, the dissemination of knowledge, and the development of educational and social welfare institutions. Mosques as centers of da'wah (proselytizing) are one tangible manifestation of philanthropy, as exemplified by the Prophet Muhammad who established mosques as a means of spreading Islam. Similarly, educational institutions that function as centers for the transmission of knowledge also grew out of the practice of philanthropy, and it was through these institutions that the intellectual development of Islam took place. This article aims to provide the public with an understanding of the changing meaning of Islamic philanthropy by examining the views of Nahdlatul Ulama and Muhammadiyah as primary data. The analysis was conducted using the theory of Islamic legal change and a normative approach, with the aim of revealing the values of truth in the practice of Islamic philanthropy in society so that they can continue to be actualized in the future.

Abstract

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the weighing system used in the sale and purchase of palm oil plantation products in Silaut District through the perspective of contemporary muamalah jurisprudence. The primary objective is to determine whether the 5-kilogram deduction applied per weighing aligns with the principles of Sharia economic law, particularly justice and mutual consent. This study employed a qualitative field research method, with data collected through interviews involving two palm oil bosses, two farmers, and two loose-fruit collectors selected using purposive sampling. Data analysis followed the Miles and Huberman framework, consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results show that the 5-kilogram deduction system has been consistently practiced since 2003 and is accepted by all parties because it reflects the estimated weight of the iron base attached to the scale. The findings indicate that this system does not constitute fraudulent weighing as prohibited in Surah Al-Muthaffifin; instead, it operates as an authentic ‘urf upheld by community consensus. The study concludes that the deduction system complies with contemporary Sharia principles of justice and willingness, and it positively influences trust and transactional stability among local palm oil traders.
