Abstract

The soybean processing process for making tempeh for middle- and lower-class soybeans still uses traditional methods to peel and separate the soybean hulls. This machine is designed to address the problem of peeling and separating soybean hulls at the household and lower-middle-scale businesses, which is still often done traditionally (by treading or soaking manually), which is inefficient, unhygienic, and labor-intensive. The main objective of this research is to design and build an automatic soybean peeling and separating machine that is easily accessible, energy-efficient, and able to improve the cleanliness of the processed product. The final design uses a two-geared cylinder mechanism with a gap adjustment (slider) that can be adjusted according to soybean size. Automatic separation utilizes mass/air differences to push the hulls out and the beans fall into a separate channel. The manufacturing process involved literature review, observation, selection of alternative designs, component fabrication, and machine assembly. The expected results are a hopper with a capacity of 15 kg, an electric motor drive with a V-belt pulley transmission, two geared cylinders, and testing of optimal gap variations and cylinder rotations, capable of producing a capacity of approximately 300 kg/hour of clean, ready-to-process soybeans. The design of the hull peeling and separating machine features a peeling mechanism that utilizes the gap between a toothed cylinder and an adjustable adjustment mechanism that adapts to the type of soybean being peeled.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop the GamaBase Learning Management System (LMS) based on Project-Based Learning (PjBL) integrated with gamification to improve students’ cognitive abilities in Database learning. The LMS was developed using the ADDIE model, consisting of the analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation stages. Its effectiveness was evaluated using a quasi-experimental method with a Nonequivalent Control Group Design involving 60 eleventh-grade Software Engineering students at SMK 17 Agustus 1945 Surabaya, divided into an experimental group and a control group. Data were collected through expert validation, functional system testing, and cognitive ability assessments using pretests and posttests. The results showed that the GamaBase LMS met the criteria for being highly feasible as a learning medium. The analysis of cognitive improvement showed that the experimental group obtained a mean N-Gain score of 0.778, categorized as high, while the control group obtained a mean N-Gain score of 0.498, categorized as moderate. The Mann-Whitney test showed a significant difference in cognitive improvement between the experimental and control groups, with a significance value of p < 0.001. Therefore, the GamaBase LMS based on PjBL integrated with gamification was effective in improving students’ cognitive abilities in Database learning, particularly higher-order thinking skills involving analyzing, evaluating, and creating.

Abstract

Conventional clove drying still depends on weather conditions, making the drying duration difficult to control. This study aimed to design a greenhouse-based clove dryer powered by a Solar Power Generation System (PLTS) with temperature control using an ESP32 and to evaluate its performance compared with conventional drying. The system employed a DHT22 sensor, heater, circulation fan, exhaust fan, automatic sieve rack mechanism, PZEM-017, and ThingSpeak for Internet of Things (IoT)-based monitoring. Testing was conducted using 5 kg of fresh cloves with an initial moisture content of 70%. The results showed that the dryer reduced the moisture content to 12.5% within 32 hours or 3 days, while conventional drying required 40 hours or 4 days and resulted in a final moisture content of 12.9%. The proposed dryer reduced the drying time by approximately 20% and achieved the target moisture content, although temperature stability and heat distribution still require further optimization.
