Abstract

Intense pressure on the global environment is driving an urgent need for environmentally friendly materials. Nanotechnology has emerged as a transformative technological platform offering innovative solutions to this challenge. This article aims to systematically review the applications, potential, and challenges of nanotechnology in the development of environmentally friendly materials. Using a systematic literature review approach, this study analyzes relevant literature published over the past decade. The analysis reveals that nanotechnology contributes significantly through three primary pathways: (1) enhancing bio-based nanocomposites to replace conventional plastics, (2) creating functional surfaces for energy efficiency and resource conservation, and (3) developing advanced nanomaterials for pollution remediation and green chemistry applications. However, beyond this potential, the study also identifies crucial challenges related to potential nanotoxicity and life cycle impacts (Life Cycle Assessment/LCA), which require careful evaluation to ensure the holistic sustainability of the resulting materials. In conclusion, nanotechnology is a vital enabler, yet its application demands a responsible and integrated approach to innovation to ensure that technological solutions do not create new ecological problems.

Abstract

History education in high school often faces the challenge of low student learning interest in the digital era. This research aims to conduct an in-depth examination of the use, impact, and implementation challenges of interactive digital media in history learning. Using a qualitative approach with a case study design at a public high school in Medan, data were collected through classroom observations, in-depth interviews with teachers, and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) with students. The findings indicate that the use of interactive digital media significantly increases students' enthusiasm, active participation, and understanding of the subject matter. This media proved effective in facilitating the development of historical empathy and critical thinking skills. However, the study also identified several challenges, including an increased teacher workload in preparing materials, the need for proficient pedagogical-technological competence, and technical infrastructure constraints at the school. In conclusion, interactive digital media is a powerful pedagogical tool for revitalizing history education, but its effectiveness is highly dependent on a well-planned implementation strategy, teacher readiness, and adequate institutional support.

Abstract

Solar energy is a promising renewable energy source; however, its efficiency is highly dependent on constantly changing environmental conditions such as solar irradiance and temperature. The non-linear output characteristic of solar panels results in a single, dynamic Maximum Power Point (MPP), necessitating a Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) algorithm to maximize the energy harvest. This research aims to analyze and compare the energy efficiency of two commonly used MPPT algorithms: Perturb and Observe (P&O) and Incremental Conductance (IncCond). The research method employed is a quantitative simulation using MATLAB/Simulink software, where both algorithms were tested on an identical photovoltaic (PV) system model under three irradiance scenarios: constant, step-change, and ramp-change conditions. The simulation results demonstrate that the Incremental Conductance algorithm consistently outperforms the Perturb and Observe algorithm. IncCond exhibited a higher tracking efficiency (reaching 99.6%) with superior stability under steady-state conditions, as well as a faster and more accurate dynamic response during sudden changes in irradiance. In conclusion, the IncCond algorithm is proven to be more reliable and efficient for maximizing energy production, making it the more recommended choice for photovoltaic system applications, especially in tropical regions with high weather variability, such as Medan, Indonesia.

Abstract

This research was prompted by the low level of economic literacy among students, often attributed to the dominance of passive, conventional teaching methods. This study aims to enhance the economic literacy of eleventh-grade Social Studies students through the implementation of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model. This study employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design conducted in two cycles, with each cycle comprising the stages of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The subjects of the research were 32 students at a public senior high school in Medan. Data were collected using tests to measure economic literacy and observation sheets to monitor learning activities. The findings revealed a significant improvement. The classical mastery learning percentage for students increased from a baseline of 21.8% to 56.25% in Cycle I, ultimately reaching 90.6% at the end of Cycle II. Furthermore, a positive increase in student activity and participation was observed throughout the learning process. Based on these findings, it is concluded that the application of the Problem-Based Learning model can effectively enhance students' economic literacy.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low critical thinking skills of students in Physics learning which is often conventional and teacher-centered. The purpose of this study is to describe the implementation of the Inquiry-Based Learning (IBL) model and its effectiveness in improving students' critical thinking skills. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study design conducted on 32 grade XI MIPA students at a public high school in Medan. Data collection was carried out through observation, critical thinking skills tests (pre-test and post-test), interviews, and documentation. Data were analyzed qualitatively-descriptively to describe the learning process and quantitatively using paired sample t-tests and N-Gain to measure improvement. The results showed that the implementation of the IBL model ran well and succeeded in improving students' critical thinking skills significantly (p < 0.05). This is evidenced by an increase in the average score from 48.5 to 76.2, with an N-Gain value of 0.54 which is included in the "moderate" category. Qualitatively, students showed an increase in active participation, argumentation skills, and scientific reasoning during the learning process. It is concluded that the Inquiry-Based Learning model is an effective learning strategy to empower students and develop their critical thinking skills in the context of complex Physics learning.

Abstract

Sustainable agriculture requires efficient resource management to ensure optimal crop production without harming the environment. Water is a critical factor in agricultural processes, making accurate calculation of irrigation water requirements essential for efficient water use. This study develops a technology-based method, incorporating the Penman-Monteith model, remote sensing technology, geographic information systems (GIS), and artificial intelligence (AI), to accurately calculate irrigation water needs. The method also integrates real-time data from soil moisture sensors to enhance calculation accuracy. The findings indicate that this approach optimizes water use, supports agricultural productivity, and conserves water resources. This approach is expected to enable sustainable agriculture across diverse local conditions.

Abstract

This study examines the local wisdom of the Nias people by placing it within the framework of pluralism, social harmony, and cultural values passed down from generation to generation. The Nias people are a pluralistic community ethnically and religiously, consisting of the Nias tribe and various immigrant groups such as Chinese, Batak, Padang, Javanese, as well as adherents of Protestant Christianity, Catholicism, Islam, and Buddhism. This plurality is integrated in a social system supported by local wisdom such as banua-fatalifusöta, emali dome si so ba lala, and sebua ta’ide’ide’ö which play a role in maintaining social cohesion, tolerance, and conflict resolution within the family. This study uses a qualitative method with a historical-normative approach through literature and document analysis, in order to trace the historical construction and normative meaning of these local wisdom values. The results show that the local wisdom of the Nias people functions as an effective social mechanism for maintaining inter-religious and inter-ethnic harmony, and makes a significant contribution to the creation of social-communitarian stability that is rarely found in other plural societies in Indonesia. This study strengthens the understanding that traditional values and local wisdom are determining factors in the formation of social harmony in Nias society.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze Green Human Resources Management (GHRM) strategies in addressing organizational sustainability challenges in the modern era characterized by increasing environmental awareness and global pressure for sustainable business practices. The implementation of GHRM is a strategic approach in integrating environmentally friendly principles into the entire human resource management cycle, from green recruitment, environmentally-based training and development, to performance evaluation and sustainability-oriented compensation. The research method used is a qualitative approach with library research techniques and descriptive analysis of various literature, scientific journals, and case studies of companies that have implemented the GHRM concept. The results show that the implementation of GHRM consistently can increase employee environmental awareness, strengthen the company's reputation, and improve operational efficiency through waste reduction and energy consumption. However, the main challenges faced by organizations include limited managerial commitment, employee resistance to change, and the need for policies and organizational culture that support long-term sustainability. This study concludes that the GHRM strategy not only plays a role as an instrument for HR management, but also as a key pillar in creating sustainable competitive advantage.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the need for the development of a Biology e-module integrated with the values ​​of Faith and Piety (IMTAQ) for grade XI students of SMA Negeri 5 Pekanbaru. This study uses a descriptive method with a qualitative approach. The subjects of the study consisted of 33 grade XI students and one Biology teacher. Data were collected through closed questionnaires and interviews. Data analysis was carried out using descriptive statistics percentages for questionnaires and content analysis of the interview results. The results showed that the need for teaching materials (78.48%), the need for the use of e-modules (78.79%), and the integration of IMTAQ values ​​(79.09%) were in the need category, while the student expectation indicator obtained the highest percentage of 82.88% with the very need category. These findings indicate that the development of an IMTAQ-integrated Biology e-module is urgently needed as an innovative learning medium to increase learning motivation, independence and the formation of students' religious character.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of Project-Based Learning in developing students’ responsibility character in an inclusive classroom. This research is grounded in the importance of fostering responsibility as a key 21st-century competence, particularly in learning environments that accommodate diverse student abilities, needs, and characteristics. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed in this study. The participants consisted of teachers and students in an inclusive classroom. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal that the implementation of Project-Based Learning enhances students’ sense of responsibility, as reflected in their active involvement in planning, implementing, and completing project tasks, as well as in their ability to collaborate and fulfill their assigned roles. Furthermore, students with special needs demonstrated improvements in independence and commitment to their learning tasks. Project-Based Learning provides equal opportunities for all students to participate according to their abilities, thereby fostering an inclusive learning environment that supports character development. Therefore, Project-Based Learning is an effective instructional strategy for developing students’ responsibility character in inclusive classrooms.
