Abstract

The increasing cases of cyberbullying on social media have become a serious concern. Film, as a mass communication medium, often portrays social realities, one of which is the film Budi Pekerti (2023) that addresses issues such as cyberbullying. This research aims to analyze how victims of cyberbullying interpret the messages conveyed regarding the phenomenon of cyberbullying in the film Budi Pekerti. Using Stuart Hall's Reception Theory, this study was conducted through a descriptive qualitative approach and reception analysis method. The researcher interviewed five informants who were victims of cyberbullying and had watched the film Budi Pekerti. The research findings show that the informants gave varied responses to the representation of cyberbullying in the film. Some informants were in a dominant-hegemonic position, where they fully accepted the moral messages conveyed by the film, especially regarding the serious impact of cyberbullying. On the other hand, there were informants in a negotiated position, where they accepted part of the message but with negotiation based on their personal experiences as victims. Lastly, there were also those in an oppositional position, rejecting the message because they felt the representation of cyberbullying victims in the film was not entirely relevant to their experiences. In conclusion, the film Budi Pekerti is generally considered capable of depicting cyberbullying from several aspects, although each informant's interpretation is influenced by social, cultural, and personal factors.

Abstract

Subsidized housing has become one of the programs facilitating individuals to own homes. West Java is the region with the highest demand for subsidized housing in Indonesia. This situation has led to an oversupply in the area. Additionally, almost all developers employ similar marketing and communication strategies on social media platforms. The issues surrounding marketing strategies and communication on social media are related to how marketing teams communicate their subsidized housing products, such as choosing the appropriate social media platform for the product and the form of communication, such as images, videos, and copywriting. This has resulted in competition among subsidized housing developers in West Java. The results indicate that there is no significant influence of Facebook exposure as a marketing medium on the decision to purchase subsidized housing in Perumahan Tapos Sejuk, Kab. Sukabumi. Furthermore, no significant influence was found between potential consumers' perceivced quality of subsidized housing products and the decision to purchase subsidized housing in Perumahan Tapos Sejuk, Kab. Sukabumi

Abstract

The cyanide coffee case in 2016 resulted in the death of Wayan Mirna Salihin, and Jessica Wongso had to serve a 20-year prison sentence. In 2023, the documentary Ice Cold: Murder, Coffee, and Jessica Wongso appeared, which raised the story and became a hot topic of conversation among the public. The purpose of this study was to find out how the Jessica Wongso murder case is represented in the film Ice Cold: Murder, Coffee, and Jessica Wongso. This study uses a qualitative approach with John Fiske's Semiotic analysis method at three levels, namely: reality, representation, and ideology. This analysis includes how the film depicts events, characters, and narratives that can influence the audience's perception of Jessica as the accused. The results of this study show First, how the media shapes public opinion towards Jessica Wongso. Through CCTV footage, interviews, and reconstructions of events that display certain narratives that emphasize the mystery and doubt about Jessica's guilt. Second, cinematic techniques such as camera angles, lighting, and background music to create tension strengthen the narrative that is being conveyed. Third, the narrative in this film suggests that Jessica may be a victim of injustice in the legal system and the media, where the film questions whether justice has truly been served. And finally, the media has a great influence in shaping public opinion, which as depicted in the media in this film emphasizes how a suspect can be perceived based on the social construction formed by the media.

Abstract

The construction of women in society with the existence of feminine and masculine characters in the midst of a patriarchal culture then seems to provide restrictions and place women in a subordinate position. Women are labeled with feminine traits as weak people under men who are considered superior with the label of masculine traits. This phenomenon then becomes the background of this research, based on the theoretical stand point in the critical paradigm by using the method of analyzing the five codes of Roland Barthes’ semiotic lexia reading. The results of this study indicate that the female characters in Stealing Raden Saleh are portrayed masculine by having dominant, confident, strong, and assertive traits. These traits are the traits of masculine characters. This depiction defies the myth that develops in society if women are figures who are required to have feminine traits and become weak people under the masculine domination of men. When women are constructed in a masculine way and have traits of masculine characters, they can be called masculine women and androgynous individuals. An androgynous individual is an individual who has both masculine and feminine traits at the same time.

Abstract

Based on the low participation rates of the Income-Generating Program for Acceptor Groups (UPPKA) in the Kampung KB of Kokolaka, Semarang City. Due to a numerous potential of local-based economic growth empowerment, ideally, there should be 200 SMEs, resulting from the BKKBN promotional efforts for economic improvement of the acceptor’s family in the Kokolaka village through the program. According to the data, 54 percent of the household head in the Kokolaka village had finished primary to secondary education, and only a small proportion had finished tertiary education/university degree. The aim of this study is to understand the association between the program exposure, educational attainment, and the behavior to improve their income. This study employed a quantitative, explanatory method. Data collection was done using interview methods to 100 respondents with inclusion criterias of: 1) ever been exposed to the information of the UPPKA program from the BKKBN; 2) understand the program algorithm and the management of the UPPKA program, and 3) resided in the Kokolaka village. The result from this study found that there were positive associations between information exposure and the behavior to improve economy, using Kendall’s Tau-b test. This result was also support by the significance score of 0.251, showing a low strength of correlation. This finding aligned with the applied Theory of Reasoned Action. However, the educational attainment of the Kokolaka village was not associated with the behavior to improve their income as the output of the program.

Abstract

The representation of female in media is an intriguing topic to explore due to the significant influence media has in shaping these representations. This article highlights the substantial differences in the portrayal of female across movie cinemas, television series, and video-on-demand (VoD) services. In examining the development of female's representation in Indonesian cinema over the past few years, there is a noticeable improvement compared to the early periods of movie cinema development in Indonesia. The presence of female directors has enhanced the quality of female's representation in movies, challenging the dominance of masculinity and patriarchal narrative. In contrast to movie cinemas, the television series (sinetron) industry remains entrenched in patriarchal narratives when depicting female on screen. Indonesian television series/soap operas are heavily influenced by the New Order's concept of femininity, which marginalizes female. Even during the 2000s, a period marked by the proliferation of sinetron, the themes became increasingly unrealistic due to the demands of continuous production (sistem kejar-tayang), resulting in unclear storylines. With the rapid growth of the Video on Demand (VoD) industry, including platforms such as Netflix, Vidio, Viu, WeTV, Disney+ Hotstar, Iflix, and HOOQ, feminist narratives have gained more prominence in Indonesian media consumption. Major subscription video on demand (SVoD) platforms like Disney+ and Netflix are committed to promoting narratives of inclusivity and diversity in their content, whether in movies or series formats.

Abstract

The beauty of women in Indonesia is very diverse, but society has the view that the standard of beauty for women is white skin, slim, thin, no acne, straight hair, and must have body goals, which gives rise to body shaming, bullying, even infidelity and can cause mental health disorders. Music can be a creative means to express feelings of happiness or sadness. Tutur Batin by Yura Yunita tells about the life process of women with their own problems and how they can accept themselves. The object of this research is the representation of women's self acceptance in the song Tutur Batin. The researcher uses qualitative methods as a research approach and uses Paul Rice's text hermeneutics methodology. This research uses standpoint theory, representation, self-acceptance, radical feminism, music, new media, and filmic aspects. This research has three research processes through grammatical analysis, semantic analysis, and text interpretation. Research findings in the song Tutur Batin include four stages of disappointment, toughness, sincerity, and self-acceptance. The results of research into the representation of the song Tutur Batin are that the women in the song Tutur Batin are finally able to accept themselves through various problem processes. Then they remember that there are still people who care about them and they meet women who do not have appropriate beauty standards and they exchange stories so that it opens their minds that they have to love themselves with what they have and there are still people near them who still care about their situation, such as the siblings and children they have.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of the attractiveness of food images (X1) and the attractiveness of behind-the-scenes (BTS) food video reels (X2) on consumer engagement in social media. With the rapid development of social media platforms, especially in the food and beverage industry, visual factors have become crucial elements in attracting consumer attention. This research proposal identified that visual content plays a significant role in shaping consumer engagement on social media, with the two main variables being the attractiveness of food images and BTS food video reels. The approach used in this study is multiple regression analysis to measure the extent to which these two independent variables affect consumer engagement on social media. Data were collected through a questionnaire survey distributed to consumers in the food and beverage industry. The results indicate that both independent variables, the attractiveness of food images (X1) and the attractiveness of BTS food video reels (X2), have a significant impact on consumer engagement on social media. Specifically, the attractiveness of food images (X1). This indicates that attractive visual content significantly enhances consumer engagement on social media. The conclusion of this study emphasizes the importance of attractive visual content in social media marketing strategies. Social media account managers in the food and beverage industry are advised to improve the quality of the images and videos they upload, particularly BTS videos, to maximize consumer engagement. This research provides significant contributions to understanding the dynamics of consumer engagement on social media and offers practical guidelines for industry practitioners

Abstract

The high rate of early marriage in Indonesia and the existence of cases of women who are perpetrators of psychological violence against other women are the background of this research. Yuni is a film that specifically addresses the main topic of the reality of women's lives in the Serang Banten area as the main premise. This research aims to determine the representation of sisterhood in the film Yuni. The main theory used is standpoint theory supported by the concept of representation and the flow of feminist existentialism. The method used is Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis through five reading codes. This research found four forms of support provided by fellow women, namely tangible support, self-esteem support, appraisal support, and belonging support. This support takes the form of praise, advice, physical assistance, physical touch, feelings of empathy that arise towards fellow women, and acceptance between women. In this research, it was found that there are myths regarding women's self-silencing due to the existence of patriarchal culture and gender norms in society. Sisterhood is described as a value that can provide a sense of calm, happiness, comfort, feeling of acceptance and can increase women's self-confidence. However, this film also illustrates that the value of sisterhood also failed to encourage women to be able to fight against existing social constructions.
