Abstract

With over 272 thousand workers by the start of 2024, Indonesia is Taiwan’s largest source of migrant labour (Workforce Development Agency, 2024). Despite the requirement to undergo practical and language training prior to placement in Taiwan, Indonesian migrant workers frequently find difficulties adapting to Taiwanese culture, particularly due to language barriers. Therefore, this study aims to explore the cultural adaptation process of Indonesian migrant workers in Taiwan, and identify obstacles and strategies used for resolution. The theories used in this study are Communication Accommodation Theory and Co-Cultural Theory. It is a qualitative descriptive study with a phenomenological approach, collecting data through in-depth interviews with five Indonesian migrant workers in Taiwan. The findings reveal that adaptation process for migrant workers in Taiwan begins with experiencing culture shock, which includes language barriers and lack of knowledge about work environment. Various communication strategies are employed by Indonesian migrant workers in adapting to cultural differences, such as integration and separation strategy, where differences in communication styles and language are addressed through convergence strategy. Additionally, the research identifies that workers overcome cultural barriers, such as negative societal stigma and discrimination, by employing assertive and aggressive accommodation strategies. Based on these findings, future research should investigate the emergence of these obstacles by delving deeper into the efforts made by migrant workers to overcome them, and consider the host society’s perspective to enrich the data.

Abstract

Pinjaman online sedang popular akhir-akhir ini karena kemudahan dalam penggunaanya, namun karena hal tersebut, banyak masyarakat yang akhirnya menggunakan pinjaman online tanpa mempelajarinya terlebih dahulu dan berakhir terjebak bunga yang tinggi dan akhirnya mengalami gagal bayar. Bahkan selama beberapa tahun terakhir, banyak berita mengenai pinjaman online, mulai dari banyaknya pinjaman online illegal, penagihan debt collector yang cenderung meneror, hingga kasus bunuh diri karena terjerat hutang di pinjol. Namun dengan banyaknya pemberitaan negatif tersebut, pengguna pinjaman online masih terus meningkat tiap tahunnya, oleh karena itu OJK beserta pihak-pihak yang terkait berusaha memberikan edukasi ke masyarakat agar masyarakat yang menggunakan pinjaman online bisa berkurang atau setidaknya lebih paham dan waspada Ketika ingin menggunakan pinjaman online. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan terpaan informasi pinjaman online di media sosial dan intensitas komunikasi peer group dengan minat menggunakan pinjaman online. Teori yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah teori integrasi informasi dan teori reference group. Penelitian ini menggunakan teknik non probability sampling dengan total 100 responden laki-laki maupun perempuan, dengan usia diatas 18 tahun, berdomisili di Jawa Tengah, dan pernah mendengar, atau melihat informasi terkait pinjaman online dalam satu bulan terakhir. Pengujian data dilakukan menggunakan teknik analisis Kendall’s tau-b. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat hubungan antara terpaan informasi pinjaman online dengan minat menggunakan pinjaman online dengan nilai signifikansi 0,000. Kemudian, untuk intensitas komunikasi peer group dengan minat menggunakan pinjaman online memiliki nilai signifikansi sebesar 0,000 yang mempunyai arti bahwa terdapat hubungan antara variabel tersebut.

Abstract

Dalihan Na Tolu as a Batak philosophy and cultural value is a principle in regulating social relations, customs, and providing clarity on the position of individuals in their groups. Even though Dalihan Na Tolu is not a social stratification, gender relations in Dalihan Na Tolu occur unequally. The role and position of men who strongly dominate, then causes women to be in an inferior position, both in everyday life and in the mass media or in the literary context, thus causing gender inequality. The existence of patriarchal cultural hegemony in the Batak ethnic group as well as the patrilineal kinship system that is adopted is a challenge for Batak women because of cultural norms that require women to always submit to men, the use of humor as an alternative narrative to challenge stereotypes. Resistance is then carried out by female characters. unusual and a challenge for Batak women because of cultural norms that require women to always submit to men, the use of humor as a way to fight back. The research objective is to determine the representation of women's resistance in the film Ngeri-Ngeri Sedap (2022), this research was studied using the Semiotics method by John Fiske, this research uses perspectives from Invitational Rhetoric Theory and Co-cultural Theory with a critical research paradigm. The conclusion of the research is that women's resistance can be carried out in stages, starting from small and hidden actions to bolder and more open actions. Women's resistance can also be carried out by involving strategies by utilizing a strong dominant cultural system, manipulating the situation, and also reaffirming the positive aspects of Dalihan Na Tolu cultural values on one of the Elek marboru stoves which is the power of women. Recommendations for further research are to explore discussions regarding stereotypes and cultural norms in other Batak sub-ethnic groups that are applied to certain genders, especially women, which ends in gender oppression and discrimination, then future researchers can also examine the issue of patriarchal culture in Indonesia from an ethnic perspective. -other ethnicities found in Indonesia and

Abstract

Indonesia menempati posisi pertama sebagai pengguna rokok elektrik dimana 25% penduduk Indonesia menggunakan rokok elektrik. Survey Global Adult Tobacco Survey (GATS) pada tahun 2021 menunjukan bahwa jumlah pengguna rokok eletrik di Indonesia pada tahun 2011 sebanyak 480 ribu pengguna meningkat menjadi 6,6 juta pengguna pada tahun 2021. Minat masyarakat untuk berhenti merokok pada tahun 2021 hanya sebesar 63,4%. Kampanye @suara_tanpa_rokok merupakan salah satu upaya dalam meningkatkan minat masyarakat untuk berhenti merokok elektrik. Adanya komunikasi peer group berhenti merokok elektrik diharapkan mampu mendorong minat masyarakat untuk berhenti merokok elektrik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana pengaruh terpaan informasi akun Instagram @suara_tanpa_rokok terhadap minat berhenti merokok elektrik dan mengetahui bagaimana pengaruh intensitas komunikasi peer group berhenti merokok elektrik terhadap minat berhenti merokok elektrik. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif eksplanatori dengan teknik purposive sampling yang melibatkan 100 responden dan dianalisis menggunakan teknik analisis regresi linear sederhana. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa terpaan akun Instagram @suara_tanpa_rokok terhadap minat berhenti merokok elektrik memiliki signifikansi 0,142 > 0,05 yang artinya tidak ada pengaruh terpaan akun Instagram @suara_tanpa_rokok terhadap minat berhenti merokok elektrik. Sedangkan intensitas komunikasi peer group berhenti merokok elektrik memiliki terhadap minat berhenti merokok elektrik memiliki nilai signifikansi 0,00 < 0,05 dengan nilai koefesien determinasi 0,120. Artinya, terdapat pengaruh intensitas komunikasi peer group berhenti merokok elektrik dengan minat berhenti merokok elektrik ke arah positif namun lemah dimana besar pengaruh intensitas komunikasi peer group berhenti merokok elektrik terhadap minat berhenti merokok elektrik adalah sebesar 12%.

Abstract

Various efforts have been made by Spotify to attract people to subscribe to Spotify Premium, such as offering different types of premium service packages with various benefits and informational services like Spotify Wrapped. However, the presence of Spotify Wrapped and the benefits of Spotify Premium have led to both positive and negative perceptions among the public. This research will analyze whether the perceptions of Spotify Wrapped and the premium benefits influence the interest in subscribing to Spotify Premium. The theory used in this research is the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). The sampling technique used in this research is non probability sampling, with a sample of 100 respondents residing in DKI Jakarta. This research conducts hypothesis testing using multiple linear regression equations. The results show that the variables of perception towards 'Spotify Wrapped' and the premium benefits variables simultaneously influence the interest in subscribing to Spotify Premium with a significance value of 0.002 < 0.05. Additionally, the value of the coefficient of determination (R Square) shows a value of 0.116, which means that the perception values towards 'Spotify Wrapped' and the perception of premium benefits towards the interest in subscribing to Spotify Premium are 11.6%. The hypotheses proposed in this study are accepted, and the research findings are in line with the theory used in this study, where the two independent variables in this research can provide benefits to the public and increase the interest in subscribing.

Abstract

This research aims to explore the influence of watching TikTok live streaming intensity and product knowledge in TikTok Shop on Gen Z's purchase interest in fashion products. A questionnaire survey method was used to collect data from 100 respondents, using nonprobability sampling - purposive sampling, with specific criteria such as Gen Z (aged 13- 26 years) and having watched TikTok LIVE. Analysis using simple linear regression was employed to determine the relationship between variables of live streaming intensity and purchase interest, as well as product knowledge and purchase interest. The research findings indicate that the intensity of watching live streaming significantly affects consumer purchase interest on fashion products at TikTok Shop, while product knowledge does not affect purchase interest. These findings provide valuable insights for businesses in understanding consumer behavior, especially Gen Z, and implementing appropriate marketing strategies on the TikTok platform.

Abstract

News is a communication medium that is interesting to study. Through news, the chronology of climbing accidents in Indonesian mountains is described to the public and becomes an interesting topic for research. This study aims to describe and understand the perspectives of mountain climbers on 3 climbing accident news in online media. The three news articles contain detailed chronologies of climbing accidents, two of which resulted in fatalities. This research uses Stuart Hall's reception analysis method to determine the audience's positions of meaning. The study was conducted with 4 informants: 2 novice climbers and 2 experienced climbers. The results show that all four informants agree with the 7 preferred readings that emerge from the three climbing accident news articles. Most informants accept the dominant meanings of the three climbing accident news articles, but in some specific aspects, there are negotiated readings from the informants

Abstract

This project delves into all the preparations and execution of the Trackpresso: 5k Color Run 2024 event. Anak Panah Kopi, as the client, collaborated with the project team based on the desire to create an event that was trending in recent months. As a foundation for this project, this report utilizes the event management framework outlined in Joe Goldblatt's book "Special Events," which details event execution through five stages: research, design, planning, coordination, and evaluation. The Trackpresso: 5K Color Run event targeted 150 participants and was held on August 24th in Semarang. The results of this report indicate that the event was executed as planned, with 150 participants taking part in the Trackpresso: 5K Color Run. In fulfilling the roles of Creative Manager and Production Manager for this event, the team successfully achieved the set targets, including the creation of the event logo, design of Instagram content, and procurement of production goods for each event. Thus, the creation of the event logo, the target of Instagram posts for Olahraga Nusantara from June to August 2024, the procurement of production goods for the MLBB Competition event, and the procurement and sourcing of production goods for the Trackpresso: 5K Color Run 2024 event were all fulfilled. This report recommends that the Trackpresso: 5K Color Run 2024 project can contribute to the academic field by providing a framework for preparing similar events..

Abstract

Electability surveys are a trend in politics where they can lead public opinion to certain candidates. From several electability survey news, many of them show that Ganjar's electability tends to decline. This will harm Ganjar in the process of becoming a presidential candidate in the 2024 election, where the news can affect their attitude in voting. This study used an explanatory quantitative research type. The theory used in this study is Integration Information Theory. The results of the hypothesis test showed that there was no effect between the information valence variable (X1) and the information weight variable (X2) on the tendency to elect variable (Y) with a significance value of 0.084 where is more than 0.05.

Abstract

Traditional, patriarchal masculinity has reinforced rigid, authoritarian male roles, often leading to emotional distance between fathers and their children. The advent of the information age has ushered in a new ideology of masculinity known as 'fatherhood', which emphasizes active involvement in family life and the cultivation of deeper emotional connections. This study examines the representation of fatherhood masculinity in the film "Hafalan Shalat Delisa" and analyzes the position of this ideology within the film. Specifically, it investigates whether traditional, patriarchal, and toxic masculinity persists within these representations. Employing John Fiske's semiotic analysis, the research will explore the signs and forms of representation within the film.
