Abstract

The demonstrations by the people of Pati Regency in August 2025, triggered by the 250% increase in the state tax (PBB-P2) and the controversial response of the Pati Regent, received widespread attention on social media. The high level of news coverage is suspected to have influenced public perception of the event. This study aims to determine the effect of the intensity of information about the Pati Regent's demonstration on social media on the perceptions of Pati residents regarding Sudewo's communication style. The study employed cultivation theory with a quantitative explanatory approach. The sample consisted of 100 respondents from Pati Regency residents aged 17 and over, eligible to vote, and active social media users. Data were collected through Gform and analyzed using simple linear regression. The results indicate that the intensity of information about the Pati Regent's demonstration on social media has a positive and significant effect on public perception. This is evidenced by a significance value of <0.001 and a calculated t-value of 14.938, which is greater than the t-table of 1.660. The coefficient of determination (R Square) of 0.695 indicates that news exposure explains 69.5% of the variation in public perception. This finding suggests that the greater the public's exposure to news on social media, the greater its influence on the formation of public perception.

Abstract

The low level of brand awareness of Mami Ayam Pop in Semarang City, indicated by only 23.3% of 202 respondents recognizing the brand, highlights the need for an effective brand communication strategy to increase brand exposure and audience engagement. This study aims to increase Mami Ayam Pop's brand awareness to 65% and enhance brand engagement through the Flavor and Tunes Pop campaign, which integrates digital communication on Instagram and TikTok with brand activation activities, including Vote Your Iftar Flavor, Ramadhan Satnight Tunes, and POP Bite Reaction. In implementing the campaign, Creative Production was responsible for designing visual communication materials, Publication & Documentation managed social media publications and documented campaign activities, while the Video Editor produced audiovisual content to support digital brand communication. This study employed the AISAS (Attention, Interest, Search, Action, Share) model, with data collected through pre-test and post-test surveys, social media analysis, campaign documentation, and evaluation based on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). The results showed that the campaign successfully increased Mami Ayam Pop's brand awareness to 65%, increased Instagram followers from 286 to 607 accounts and TikTok followers from 169 to 335 accounts, and improved audience engagement through digital content and brand activation activities. These findings indicate that an integrated brand communication strategy effectively enhances both brand awareness and brand engagement for Mami Ayam Pop.

Abstract

The “Founder-as-Influencer” phenomenon in Indonesia’s modest fashion industry positions the credibility of brand founders as the spearhead communication. of digital Shirin Al marketing Athrus (@shireeenz) and the hijab brand Istreya provide a relevant context for testing whether personal brand credibility truly drives consumer purchase intent or requires a specific mediator for that influence to materialize. This study aims to explain the influence of @shireeenz’s personal brand credibility on consumer purchase intent, with Istreya’s brand equity serving as a mediating variable, based on Source Credibility Theory and the Customer-Based Brand Equity Model. This study employs an explanatory quantitative approach targeting Muslim women who meet the research criteria, with mediation The research findings show that the credibility of the @shireeenz personal brand—which encompasses the dimensions of trustworthiness, expertise, and attractiveness—is rated very highly by the majority of respondents. However, this credibility was not found to have a significant direct influence on consumers’ purchase intent, indicating that consumers do not automatically form a desire to buy based solely on their perception of the figure promoting the product. Conversely, Istreya’s brand equity was found to significantly mediate the relationship between the credibility of @shireeenz’s personal brand and analysis conducted using PROCESS Macro Model 4 and a bootstrap confidence interval approach. consumer purchase intent. This mediation is full, meaning that the influence of personal brand credibility can only take effect if it first builds strong brand equity through brand awareness, perceived quality, brand associations, and brand loyalty. Thus, it is concluded that the popularity and credibility of a founder-influencer’s personal brand are not sufficient to directly drive consumer purchase intent without the support of strong brand equity. Therefore, Istreya is advised to consistently optimize brand equity building by strengthening brand awareness, improving perceptions of product quality, creating positive brand associations, and maintaining long-term customer loyalty.

Abstract

Ideally, romantic relationships are built on clear status, commitment, and relational definition. However, many young adults engage in romantic relationships without clear status, such as situationships. This ambiguity often creates an emotional dilemma: individuals experience jealousy but lack the relational legitimacy to express it. This study aims to understand how young adults make meaning of and express jealousy within such ambiguous relationships. Using a descriptive qualitative approach with an interpretive paradigm, in-depth interviews were conducted with eight informants aged 18–29 years who had experienced situationship relationships, drawing on Romantic Jealousy Theory, Self-Disclosure Theory, and Relational Dialectics Theory (RDT). The findings reveal three main findings. First, all informants experienced status ambiguity (“grey area”) as the main characteristic of situationships; some felt disadvantaged by the confusion and overthinking it caused, while others deliberately chose ambiguity as a mechanism to avoid emotional risk. Second, the majority of informants (6 out of 8) expressed jealousy non-verbally through silence, emotional withdrawal, silent treatment, retaliatory communication patterns, and social media posts with implicit meanings with one informant strategically using social media as a channel to express jealousy that could not be conveyed directly. Only two informants expressed jealousy verbally, driven by the need for confirmation. Third, most informants were trapped in a condition of “having feelings but having no right” (punya rasa tapi tidak punya hak), shaped by prevailing social norms, causing jealousy to be suppressed, disguised, or managed internally. This study concludes that jealousy in situationships is not merely an emotional response, but a form of emotional negotiation within unresolved relational contradictions, further shaped by each individual’s past trauma and trust issues.

Abstract

This study examines family communication patterns in the decision-making process regarding formal education for children in the Sedulur Sikep community in Kampung Samin, Dukuh Karangpace, Klopoduwur Village, Blora Regency. The research was conducted in response to the shifting attitudes of some Sedulur Sikep families toward formal education, from initial resistance to gradual acceptance in line with social change. The study aims to describe and analyze the meaning of formal education, family communication patterns, the negotiation and deliberation process, and the influence of Sedulur Sikep cultural values on educational decisions. This research employed a qualitative approach with an ethnographic case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, documentation, and field notes from four family informants. The data were analyzed inductively through coding, source triangulation, technique triangulation, and ethnographic interpretation. The findings show that formal education is understood differently by Sedulur Sikep families, namely as a “key,” a “bridge,” an “obligation,” and a “label,” depending on the parents’ life experiences and social positions. Family communication patterns were also not uniform; they tended to reflect protective, pluralistic, compelled laissez-faire, and pluralistic in rhetoric but protective in practice. The decision-making process was marked by negotiations that were not always equal, but rather took the form of submission, firm assertion, postponement, or final rejection. Sedulur Sikep values such as hard work, simplicity, honesty, and ora gumantung marang wong liya functioned both as sources of legitimacy and as constraints in family communication. The study concludes that decisions about children’s formal education in Sedulur Sikep families are the result of a complex negotiation between cultural values, historical experiences, economic conditions, and power dynamics within the family.

Abstract

Ride-hailing services in Indonesia operate in a relatively homogeneous market with high price transparency, allowing users to compare fares, promotions, and service availability before booking. This multi-homing behavior makes usage decisions more situational and encourages platforms to emphasize price-oriented messages on social media. In this context, GoRide Hemat and GrabBike Hemat are both promoted as low-cost, affordable, and consistent services. This study aims to analyze the influence of social media marketing exposure on continuance intention, both directly and indirectly through price perception, and to describe the patterns found in both services. This research applies an explanatory quantitative approach using a survey of 160 respondents selected through purposive sampling. Social media marketing exposure was measured through attention and unaided recall, price perception through price acceptability, affordability, and price competitiveness, while continuance intention was measured through continued use, usage preference, and future use intention. The data were analyzed using PLS-SEM with SmartPLS. The findings show that social media marketing exposure has a positive and significant influence on price perception in both services. Price perception also has a positive and significant influence on continuance intention. The direct influence of social media marketing exposure on continuance intention is significant for GoRide Hemat, but not significant for GrabBike Hemat. In addition, the indirect effect through price perception is significant in both services. These findings indicate that price-oriented messages on social media need to be supported by consistent actual prices in the application to strengthen price perception and encourage continuance intention.

Abstract

The beauty industry in Indonesia has experienced rapid growth along with the increasing public interest in skincare products. This development has also been accompanied by the emergence of the overclaim phenomenon, referring to product claims that do not accurately reflect their actual content. The issue gained public attention after the TikTok account @dokterdetektif revealed alleged discrepancies in the active ingredient content of Azarine products. This information triggered various reactions among social media users and raised consumer doubts about a brand that had previously been trusted. Therefore, this study aims to examine the relationship between exposure to skincare overclaim information and electronic word of mouth (e WOM) on consumers’ purchase intention toward Azarine products. This study employed a quantitative explanatory approach within a positivist paradigm. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 60 Indonesian TikTok users who had been exposed to content from @dokterdetektif and were familiar with Azarine products. The sampling technique used was non-probability sampling with an incidental sampling method. Data were analyzed using Kendall’s Tau-b correlation test. The results indicate that exposure to skincare overclaim information has a weak relationship with the decline in purchase intention, as some respondents still considered purchasing Azarine products despite being exposed to information regarding the overclaim issue. Meanwhile, electronic word of mouth (e-WOM) demonstrates a moderate relationship with the decline in purchase intention because comments, reviews, and experiences shared by other users encourage consumers to become more selective and only purchase certain products. These findings support Cognitive Dissonance Theory, which explains that information contradicting consumers’ prior beliefs can influence their evaluations and purchasing decisions. Future research is recommended to include variables such as brand image, brand trust, or brand loyalty to provide a more comprehensive understanding of consumer behavior.

Abstract

This study examines the effect of internal communication satisfaction (ICS) on member engagement in student organizations and investigates the mediating roles of psychological contract fulfillment (PCF) and perceived organizational support (POS). A quantitative explanatory approach was employed through a survey of 324 active students at Universitas Diponegoro who were members of intra-campus student organizations. Data were analyzed using PLS-SEM with a Reflective-Reflective Higher-Order Construct specification and the Disjoint Two-Step Approach. Findings indicate that ICS has a positive and significant effect on member engagement (β = 0.452, p < 0.001, f² = 0.184). POS significantly mediates the ICS engagement relationship (β = 0.182, p < 0.001), while PCF does not serve as a significant mediator (β = 0.012, p = 0.772). The model demonstrates moderate predictive capability (R² = 0.459). The study concludes that member engagement is driven more by experienced relational support than by evaluations of fulfilled initial expectations.

Abstract

News reporting on criminal offenders with disabilities potentially generates framing that violates journalistic ethical guidelines. This study aims to analyze the framing of criminal offenders with disabilities and to identify journalistic ethical violations on the online media platform Tribunnews.com. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach utilizing Zhongdang Pan and Gerald M. Kosicki’s framing analysis method. The research subjects consist of 12 news articles concerning a criminal offender with a disability, I Wayan Agus Suartama or IWAS, published between January 9–17, 2025, on Tribunnews.com. The analysis was conducted through syntactic, script, thematic, and rhetorical structures, and evaluated using Article 8 of the Journalistic Code of Ethics and the Press Council Regulation Number 01/PERATURAN DP/II/2021 concerning Guidelines for Disability-Friendly Reporting. The results indicate that Tribunnews.com frames IWAS in four ways: as an emotional individual, having daily activity limitations, a dangerous criminal, and a vulnerable/frail party. Furthermore, all analyzed articles were identified as committing ethical violations against Article 8 of the KEJ and breaching five points (Points 1–5) of the Press Council Regulation Number 01/PERATURAN-DP/II/2021 concerning Guidelines for Disability-Friendly Reporting. Nevertheless, the reporting remains informative.

Abstract

Online news media plays a significant role in shaping public perception of government policies, including local tax policies. The Pati Regency Government under Regent Sudewo raised the Land and Building Tax Assessment Value (NJOP) by up to 250 percent, triggering widespread public resistance and drawing sustained national media attention. This situation makes the coverage patterns of Kompas.com on this issue relevant to examine systematically in order to obtain an empirical picture of how a mainstream national media outlet represents local fiscal policy to its audience. This study aims to describe the characteristics and sentiment of news coverage on the tax hike issue in Pati Regency on the online media platform Kompas.com. The study employed a descriptive quantitative content analysis method with a positivistic approach, following the principles of Klaus Krippendorff. The research object consisted of 44 Kompas.com articles containing the keywords "Pajak Pati" or "Pajak Kabupaten Pati", selected through total sampling over the period of August to December 2025. Data were collected using a structured coding sheet covering four variables: news sentiment, news intensity, issue category, and quoted sources. Intercoder reliability was tested using Holsti's formula and yielded a coefficient above 0.80 across all categories. The findings reveal that: (1) news sentiment was predominantly negative at 65.9%, followed by neutral at 29.5%, with positive sentiment at only 4.5%; (2) most articles were of high intensity at 70.5%, with zero articles classified as low intensity; (3) the dominant issue categories were politics at 34.1% and demonstrations at 31.8%, while substantive tax policy content received only 6.8%; (4) the most frequently cited sources were mass alliance groups at 25%, the Regional Parliament (DPRD) at 20.5%, and the police at 18.2%, while academics and Komnas HAM each appeared in only 4.5% of the coverage. The findings were analyzed through the framework of Attribute Agenda Setting as the primary theory, supported by Narrative Paradigm Theory and Warranting Theory. Overall, Kompas.com's coverage tended to emphasize sociopolitical conflict and drama with consistently high intensity and negative sentiment, while providing limited space for substantive policy discussion, academic perspectives, and reconciliation narratives. The author recommends that Kompas.com strengthen source diversification and balance its coverage with more substantive content, and that the Pati Regency Government improve its proactive, data-based public communication strategy.
