Abstract

Background: TB screening in children having close contact with smear-positive TB patients is urgent to conduct to improve the case detection rate and to achieve the “End TB” target. In fact, the implementation of screening in Indonesia is still inadequate. Objective: To analyze the factors associated with the non-adherence of TB screening in children aged <15 years with smear-positive TB patients’ close contact. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in Semarang between February and August 2020. Subjects were children <15 years old with smear-positive TB patient's close contact. Data were collected from interviewed parents or guardians of the child using a structured questionnaire. Chi-square or Fisher's exact test analysis was used to identify the factor associated with non-adherence to TB screening in children. Results: A total of 84 children were recruited into this study. The proportion of children who did not undergo the screening is still high (86,9%), and there was a significant association with children's age (OR 13,556, 95% CI=3.135-58,613), parents' age (OR 41,143, 95% CI=4,025-420,604), parents’ education level (OR 0,114, 95%CI=0.027–0.477), distance to health facilities, knowledge level, perceived barriers, and cues to action. There was no significant association between children’s gender, economic level, perceived threats with non-adherence of screening. Conclusion: Children and parents’ age, education level, distance to health facilities, knowledge level, perception of barriers, and cues to action associated with the non-adherence of TB screening in children aged <15 years with smear-positive TB patients’ close contact.

Abstract

AbstractBackground: Burn are trauma that can cause local and systemic damage including hypermetabolism, inflammation, and hyperglicemia. Stress Induced Hyperglycemia (SIH) occurs by increasing gluconeogenesis and insulin resistance. Both of these are mediated through an increase in regulated stress hormones and proinflammatory cytokines. Melatonin has been proposed as a burn supportive therapy that may prevent oxidative damage and inhibit excessive inflammatory responses.Aim: Proving the effects of melatonin supplementation on blood glucose level in male Wistar rats with burn injury. Methods: This research was an experimental with randomized control group pre-post test design. Twelve healthy male Wistar rats were included and divided into two groups, control and experimental group. Each rat was induced 30% burn injury under anesthesia. Rats in control group were given placebo, while rats in experimental group were treated with melatonin i.p at 0, 8 and 16 hours after burn injury. Blood samples were collected from the retroorbital sinuses at 0, 3, and 24 hours. Data were analyzed statistically by Paired t-Test and Independent t-Test. Results: In male Wistar rats with third degree burns given placebo, blood sugar levels significantly increase in 0-3 hours (p=0.006)  and 0-24 hours (p=0.037). Meanwhile, in male Wistar rats with third degree burns given melatonin, blood sugar levels did not change significantly in 0-3 hours (p=0.470), 0-24 hours (p=0.286), dan 3-24 hours (p=0.833). Conclusions: Melatonin administration can not significantly reduce blood sugar levels. Keywords: Burn, burn injury, blood glucose level, melatonin.

Abstract

Background: Composite resins are dental restorative materials that are widely used and have high aesthetic value compared to other materials. However, acidic environmental conditions can degrade the composite resins, resulting in increased surface roughness of the resin, and consequently lead to an increased risk of caries. Objective: the purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of immersion in acidic drinks on the surface roughness of composite resins,Method: In this study 24 samples of bulk fillTM  composite resins were used. Samples were divided into four groups. Each sample was immersed for 5 seconds in either artificial saliva (control), carbonated beverage, isotonic, or yogurt, and followed by 5 seconds immersion in saliva. This cycle was repeated for 20 times for 14 consecutive days. The roughness of composite resin before and after 14 days immersion was measured by using a profilometer. Microscopic structures were analyzed by Scanning electron Microscope (SEM). Statistical analysis was used paired t-test, Anova and Post Hoc LSD.Results: Data from each sample group was normally distributed- with p > 0.05. The paired t-test for each group showed a p-value < 0.05, which indicates there was a significant difference between surface roughness before and after immersion. ANOVA analysis revealed that there was a difference in the surface roughness between groups LSD test, showed that there was difference in the surface roughness between artificial saliva with carbonated drink, isotonic drink with carbonated drink, yoghurt drink with carbonated drink (p<0.0001), between artificial saliva group with yoghurt drink, yoghurt drink with carbonated drink, yoghurt drink with isotonic drink (p <0.05) which means there was a significant difference between group. Meanwhile, the isotonic drinks with artificial saliva obtained results (p>0.05), which means there is no significant difference. Conclusion: Exposure of carbonated drinks, yoghurt drinks, and isotonic drinks can significantly increase the roughness of the surface Bulk Fill resin composite compared to exposure of artificial saliva. Keywords: Composite resin, Bulk Fill, Surface Roughness, Acid
