Abstract

Background: Valvular heart disease (VHD) is one third of all heart disease. In industrialized countries, the prevalence is estimated at 2,5% and in developing countries is between twenty to thirty cases per-1000 people. VHD presents a huge health burden worldwide. If heart failure has occured, surgery is the treatment of choice. Cardiorespiratory fitness declined in post-surgical patients. Preoperative cardiac rehabilitation is considered to be able to increase the cardiorespiratory fitness baseline so that postoperative outcomes are better.Case Presentation: We reported 28 years-old female with severe MS and MR as well as mild TR with symptoms dyspnea on effort which improves with rest. She was the candidate for mitral valve replacement. She was given a 14-days preoperative cardiac rehabilitation program including breathing exercise by pursed lips breathing, effective cough exercise, range of motion exercise, ankle pumping exercise, endurance exercise based on the result of the 6 minutes walking test (6MWT) and inspiratory muscle training (IMT) using threshold IMT. Conclusion: Preoperative cardiac rehabilitation program improved pulmonary functional capacity, cardiorespiratory fitness and functional activity.Keyword: valvular heart disease, cardiac rehabilitation, pulmonary functional capacity, cardiorespiratory fitness.

Abstract

Background: Parijoto, one of the melastomaceae family, has been known to have cytotoxic activity in some cancer cell lines, such as HeLa, MCF-7, and T47D. Aims: We aim to know about the selectivity of ethanol extract of Parijoto fruit in cell line HepG2, WiDr, 4T1, and Vero. Cytotoxic was determined by MTT assay. Method: Extract was added in three serial concentration three serial concentrations (125 µg/mL–500 µg/mL), while the positive  control doxorubicin gives in 2,5 µg/mL – 20 µg/mL for cancer cell and 40 µg/mL -100 µg/mL for Vero cell.  Results: Results showed that ethanol extract of parijoto fruit gave low activity in HepG2 and Vero cell (IC50: 250 µg/mL) and moderate activity in WiDr and 4T1 (IC50: 81,58 µg/mL and 158,72 µg/mL). Conclusion: The highest selectivity index is given in WiDr cell (SI> 3) means that the ethanol extract of parijoto fruit is a promising cytotoxic agent for colorectal cancer therapy.

Abstract

Background: Acne vulgaris is a chronic inflammatory disease in the pilosebaceous gland of the skin which can cause depression and anxiety. IL-23 is a cytokine that is involved in autoimmune diseases, including acne vulgaris. IL-23 affects the differentiation process of Th17 which further produces IL-17, an important component in the pathogenesis of acne vulgaris. IL-17 plays a significant role in the grade of skin damage caused by the inflammation process. Objective: To find out differences in IL-23 serum levels and the grade of AV severity in women. Methods: An observational study with a cross-sectional design approach conducted from June until October 2020 in 15 women with AV aged 15-25 years old, not consuming anti-inflammatory drugs, antibiotics, retinoid group of drugs and free from other inflammatory diseases. Subjects were divided into three groups based on the AV severity grade: specifically mild (n=5), moderate (n=5) and severe (n=5). Subjects had venous blood taken for IL-23 serum content by the ELISA method. Data on IL-23 serum content in the three groups were tested using the One-Way ANOVA method to determine the differenceResults: Average age from the 3 groups was 21 (17-23 ) years old. The results showed that there is no significant difference in IL-23 rate from the 3 groups of AV severities (p=0,490).Conclusion: : There is no significant difference of IP-23 rate between the 3 groups of AV severites in women.
