Abstract

Ideally, the concept of Islamic health should be understood as a comprehensive system of thought rooted in divine revelation and strengthened by the intellectual contributions of Muslim philosophers. This concept is expected to integrate physical, mental, and spiritual dimensions of human existence in a balanced manner. However, in reality, contemporary discussions on Islamic health tend to be fragmented, focusing mainly on normative-theological or medical aspects, while the philosophical foundations developed by Muslim philosophers receive limited attention. This condition creates a conceptual gap between Islamic philosophical thought and Islamic health findings. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the views of Muslim philosophers regarding the body, soul, and health, and to examine their relevance to the concept of Islamic health. This research employs a library research method with a qualitative approach, using philosophical-normative and historical-conceptual analysis of classical works and contemporary literature. The findings indicate that Muslim philosophers provide a strong conceptual foundation for Islamic health by emphasizing the balance between body and soul within an ethical and spiritual framework. The integration of these philosophical perspectives demonstrates that Islamic health is holistic, rational, and remains relevant in addressing contemporary health challenges.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the paradigm of knowledge in Islam and analyze the criticism of the dualism of knowledge that has developed between Western and Islamic intellectual traditions. The research employs a library research method with a descriptive qualitative approach through the analysis of various works related to Islamic epistemology, philosophy of science, and the thoughts of contemporary Muslim scholars. The findings reveal that the dualism of knowledge emerged from the separation between religious sciences and secular sciences, influenced by the paradigm of Western secularism. From an Islamic perspective, knowledge is viewed as a unified entity originating from Allah SWT and developed through the integration of revelation and reason. The criticism of knowledge dualism is directed toward the tendency of modern science to neglect spiritual, ethical, and moral dimensions in the development of knowledge. As an alternative, Islam offers a tawhid-based paradigm of knowledge that harmoniously integrates rational, empirical, and spiritual aspects. This paradigm aims not only to achieve intellectual progress but also to promote human well-being and balance in life. Therefore, reconstructing the Islamic paradigm of knowledge is essential for developing a holistic, ethical, and relevant system of knowledge capable of addressing contemporary challenges.

Abstract

The intellectual tradition of dayah in Aceh is expected to be an integrative space between Sufism spirituality and wasathiyah ethics as the foundation of Islamic moderation. However, contemporary reality shows a shift in scholarly orientation due to the influence of modernity and global ideological challenges. This study aims to examine the dialectic between Sufism and wasathiyah in shaping the scholarly character and religious practices of dayah scholars. Using a qualitative approach through a literature review of the works of classical scholars and contemporary sources, this study finds that the dayah Sufism tradition functions not only as spiritual guidance but also as a social ethical system that supports the values of Islamic moderation in Aceh.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the concept of happiness (sa‘ādah) in Islamic philosophy according to Ibn Miskawayh and to examine its relevance in modern life. The study employs a qualitative approach using a library research method, relying on the analysis of Ibn Miskawayh’s works and various relevant scholarly sources. The data were analyzed through content analysis to identify and interpret the main ideas concerning happiness in his philosophical thought. The findings reveal that sa‘ādah, according to Ibn Miskawayh, is a state of spiritual perfection attained through the cultivation of reason, the development of virtuous character, and the control of human desires. Happiness is not merely oriented toward material aspects but also encompasses moral and spiritual dimensions that lead individuals toward the perfection of life. This concept remains relevant in addressing the tendency of modern society to define happiness in materialistic and individualistic terms.

Abstract

Honouring guests is an Islamic religious doctrine and a concern and humanity that is a parameter of the quality of one's faith. So far, the study that discusses visiting from the perspective of the Qur'an has only answered part of the problem regarding the manners and ethics of honoring guests, while the discussion of a verse can be explored for the purposes and objectives behind it, including knowing the values of Islamic values that uphold the morality and behaviour of a Muslim in the Qur'an. This study uses a type of library research with the method of maqasidi interpretation approach to describe the maqasid al-Qur'an initiated by Wshfi Asyur with the aim of examining the intention behind the verse. The conclusions that can be drawn from this study are; first, that the maqasidi interpretation of the verse glorifying a guest in the story of dhayif Ibrahim proves one of the aspects and essence of Islam as a whole, because the behaviour of glorifying guests is oriented towards solving the problems of people, not only for Muslims but for humanity as a whole. Secondly, this study emphasises that an in-depth, balanced and comprehensive reading makes the interpretation of the verse glorifying guests capable of presenting Islam as it is as a whole. And create a unity of concern

Based on the concept of a religious agency, the article explores how the Langsa GBI community treats religious beliefs in the midst of interest after the sealing of private places of worship that are considered to be churches by the town government of Langsa. Qualitative data was collected through participatory observations, semi-structured interviews and focus group discussions to members of the GBI community in Langsa conducted arround the course of 2015-2021. The author also interviewed Christians outside of the GBI members as well as Muslims in the research area to explore their constructions towards the topics discussed. Abstract

This study aims to analyze how the Islamization of knowledge is implemented through dayah education in Aceh by highlighting two main aspects: the role of the tengku as an agent of Islamization and the traditional dayah curriculum as an instrument for strengthening Islamic values in the learning process. The method used is library research with a qualitative approach and descriptive-analytical analysis, employing primary sources from the works of Islamic thinkers such as Syed Muhammad Naquib al-Attas and Ismail Raji al-Faruqi, as well as local literature on Acehnese dayah education. The results show that the role of the tengku in transmitting Islamic values through exemplary conduct and tauhid-based teaching is crucial in shaping the students’ epistemology. Meanwhile, the traditional dayah curriculum has proven to be an effective instrument in preserving the authenticity of Islamic scholarship. Nevertheless, to address the challenges of the modern era, it is necessary to strengthen both the curriculum and teachers’ capacities so that dayah institutions can remain relevant, adaptive, and sustainable centers for the Islamization of knowledge.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between reason (‘aql) and morality in Islam and to explain how both serve as a philosophical foundation for the concept of human responsibility. The main focus of this study is to elaborate the role of reason as an ethical instrument in shaping moral awareness and its implications for human freedom and responsibility within the perspective of Islamic philosophy. This research employs a qualitative method using a library research approach. Data are obtained from classical Muslim philosophers such as Al-Farabi, Ibn Sina, Ibn Miskawayh, and Al-Ghazali, as well as relevant secondary literature. Data analysis is conducted using content analysis techniques through a philosophical approach to examine the conceptual relationship between reason, morality, and human responsibility. The findings show that reason in Islam functions not only as a cognitive tool but also as a moral instrument that directs human beings toward goodness. Morality provides the normative foundation for the use of reason, while human responsibility emerges from the integration of reason, freedom, and moral awareness.

Abstract

Ideally, Islamic education should develop dynamically in response to contemporary changes while maintaining its theological foundations derived from the Qur'an, the Sunnah, and the intellectual legacy of classical Muslim scholars. However, the current reality reveals persistent dichotomies between religious and secular knowledge, weak integration of theological values into educational practices, and limited reinterpretation of the classical heritage in addressing global challenges such as globalization, the digital revolution, artificial intelligence (AI), and moral crises. This study aims to examine the genealogy of the theology of education in Islam, analyze its transformation within contemporary educational contexts, and formulate a theological paradigm capable of responding to global challenges. This research employs a qualitative library research approach using content analysis of primary and secondary sources. The findings indicate that reinterpreting the values of tawḥīd, khilāfah, amānah, 'ilm, adab, and maqāṣid al-sharī'ah provides an integrative, adaptive, and contextual paradigm for Islamic education. This paradigm integrates spiritual, intellectual, moral, social, and technological dimensions, enabling Islamic education to preserve its theological identity while effectively contributing to sustainable global civilization.
