Abstract

The transformation of kitab-based learning traditions from dayah into formal schooling raises a critical question regarding how deeply rooted religious values can be sustained within a structured and institutionalized educational system. This study seeks to examine how such transformation unfolds and how it shapes students’ religious practices and identity formation in Islamic primary education. Employing a qualitative approach with a case study design at SDIT Al-Marhamah Langsa, data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, with validation through data triangulation. The findings reveal that the transformation produces a hybrid learning model that integrates dayah traditions into formal schooling through methodological simplification, curricular alignment, and contextualization of values. This process contributes to more structured yet reflective religious practices among students and fosters an adaptive form of religious identity within their social environment. The study underscores that transformation does not diminish the essence of tradition but rather reconfigures it into a more contextual and meaningful form in students’ lived experiences.

Abstract

Women's political representation should ideally not only fulfill affirmative action quotas but also produce substantive representation in the policymaking process. However, in the 2024 local legislative election in Langsa City, women's representation in the Regional People's Representative Council (DPRK) remained below the 30% affirmative target and continued to face structural and cultural barriers. This study aims to analyze women's political representation based on Hanna Pitkin's four dimensions of political representation and to examine it from the perspective of fiqh siyasah. The research employs a qualitative case study approach using interviews, observations, and document analysis. The findings reveal that women have gained political access through the quota policy; however, descriptive and procedural representation have not been accompanied by optimal substantive representation due to patriarchal culture, weak party cadre development, limited resources, and insufficient political support. From the perspective of fiqh siyasah, women's political participation is consistent with the principles of al-'adl (justice), al-musawah (equality), asy-shura (consultation), and maslahah 'ammah (public interest), although their implementation remains suboptimal. This study contributes by demonstrating that the effectiveness of affirmative policies should be evaluated based on the quality of substantive representation rather than merely the fulfillment of administrative quotas.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has transformed educational practices, including Islamic education for children. Despite its potential to enhance learning effectiveness, studies integrating pedagogical, ethical, and spiritual dimensions within Islamic education remain limited. This study examines the transformation of Islamic education in the AI era, focusing on changes in learning paradigms, opportunities for AI integration, ethical-spiritual challenges, and the reconstruction of teachers’ roles. Using a qualitative library research approach, the study employs a critical-conceptual analysis of scholarly literature on AI, digital pedagogy, and Islamic education. The findings indicate that AI can strengthen Islamic education through technology-assisted Qur’anic learning, personalized instruction, interactive learning media, data-driven assessment, and the promotion of Islamic digital literacy. However, its integration also raises concerns regarding the dehumanization of learning, technology dependency, weakened scholarly authority, algorithmic bias, and reduced spiritual engagement. This study proposes three conceptual frameworks—Islamic AI-Based Education Framework, Islamic Ethical AI Framework, and Islamic AI-Educator Framework—to align technological innovation with Islamic values. The study concludes that effective AI integration requires balancing digital transformation with the development of knowledgeable, ethical, and spiritually conscious Muslim generations.

Abstract

Mental health has become a global issue that is gaining increasing attention due to the increasing prevalence of anxiety disorders and psychological stress. From an Islamic perspective, the Qur'an not only serves as spiritual guidance but also offers concepts relevant to human mental health. This study aims to explore the concepts of khauf (fear), huzn (sadness), and sakinah (peace of mind) in the Qur'an as the conceptual foundation for spiritual mental health. The study used a qualitative method with a thematic interpretation (maudhu'i) approach to Qur'anic verses related to these three concepts. Data were analyzed using both classical and contemporary approaches and linked to modern mental health theories. The results show that the Qur'an acknowledges negative emotions, such as fear and sadness, as a natural part of human life. However, the Qur'an offers a mechanism for psychospiritual transformation through faith, dhikr (remembrance of God), tawakkul (relief), and a strong relationship with God, thus giving rise to a state of sakinah. The concepts of khauf and huzn in the Qur'an are not positioned as mere psychological disorders, but rather as existential experiences that can be managed through a spiritual approach. These findings indicate that the Qur'anic concepts of khauf, huzn, and sakinah have significant relevance in developing an Islamic-based spiritual mental health paradigm.

Abstract

Ideally, hadith studies in Indonesia should integrate the strengths of classical methodology with a contextual approach relevant to contemporary developments. However, in reality, a dichotomy persists between a textualist understanding and an overly liberal approach without a strong methodological foundation. This situation creates epistemological problems in understanding hadith proportionally within society. Therefore, this study aims to analyze Ali Mustafa Yaqub's thoughts regarding hadith tradition and renewal in Indonesia, particularly in bridging the tension between classical and contextual approaches. This study is a qualitative literature study, employing descriptive-analytical methods. Data were obtained from Ali Mustafa Yaqub's works as primary sources, and supporting literature as secondary sources. Data analysis was conducted using content analysis techniques with an interpretative-critical approach to understand his thought patterns in depth. The results show that Ali Mustafa Yaqub offers a moderate approach by maintaining classical hadith methodology while opening up space for contextualization. His critique is corrective to excessive literalism and liberalism, while his renewal emphasizes the integration of text and context. This approach is relevant in addressing the challenges of contemporary, pluralistic and dynamic Indonesia.

Abstract

The methodology for understanding hadith should maintain a balanced relationship between the authority of the hadith text as the normative foundation of Islamic teachings and the changing social realities in which its values are implemented. In practice, however, contemporary hadith studies remain polarized between textual approaches that prioritize the literal meaning of the text and contextual approaches that emphasize historical settings and social dynamics. This dichotomy often results in interpretations that are insufficient to address contemporary issues comprehensively. This study aims to analyze the relationship between the authority of hadith texts and changing social realities, identify the limitations of both textual and contextual approaches, and reconstruct a methodological framework that proportionally integrates textual authority with contemporary social realities. This research employs a qualitative library research design using descriptive-analytical methods supported by content analysis, comparative analysis, and conceptual synthesis of classical and contemporary literature. The findings indicate that both approaches possess significant strengths and inherent limitations, making an integrative methodology necessary. The proposed framework positions sanad criticism, matn criticism, linguistic analysis, historical context, maqāṣid al-sharī'ah, and social reality analysis as interconnected stages in understanding hadith. This integrative model is expected to preserve the authenticity and normative authority of hadith while enhancing its relevance in addressing contemporary societal challenges.

Abstract

Ideally, studies on the ontology of God and cosmology in Islamic Peripatetic philosophy should explain the conceptual continuity between the philosophical systems of Al-Farabi and Ibn Sina as an integrated intellectual tradition. In reality, however, most previous studies have examined these two philosophers separately or focused only on specific concepts without comprehensively analyzing the ontological and cosmological relationship between God and the universe. This study aims to comparatively examine the concepts of God and the cosmos in the thought of Al-Farabi and Ibn Sina and to explore their contributions to the development of Islamic metaphysics. This research employs a qualitative library research approach using comparative philosophical analysis. The primary data are derived from the original works of both philosophers, supported by relevant scholarly literature, and analyzed through content analysis and comparative analysis. The findings reveal that both philosophers share the same metaphysical foundation by positioning God as the First Being and the ultimate source of all existence, while differing in their philosophical orientation. Al-Farabi emphasizes the cosmological structure through the concept of al-Mawjūd al-Awwal, whereas Ibn Sina develops a more systematic ontology through the concept of Wājib al-Wujūd. These differences reflect the internal evolution of Islamic Peripatetic philosophy, culminating in a more comprehensive metaphysical system grounded in the principle of tawḥīd.
