Abstract

Flavonoid-α- glycoside was synthesized using enzyme of CGT-ase (EC.2.4.1.19) which was isolated from cultivated of Aspergillus oryzae. CGT-ase enzyme has optimum capability at the temperature of 40°C, pH 7 yielded 1.87 unit/mL while at pH 6 was 1.11 unit/mL. The pretest of CGT-ase transfer activity was carried out using resorcinol as an acceptor and commercial starch solution as the glucosyl donor. Subsequently, acceptor was replaced by crude extract of ginger, and wheat starch as donor. The other product of hydrolysis was separated by column chromatography, monitored by TLC which was showed a single spot. The Rf value was compared with the Rf value of arbutin standard, the Rf values were about the same which were 0.85 for product and 0.87 for arbutin standard. The sugar total of product synthesis was determined by the Dubois method, which was 628.0 ppm. The value is equivalent to 0.032% of the original starch. The antioxidant activity was analyzed by β-carotene method discoloration. Abstract

Western tarsier (Tarsius bancanus), one of protected Indonesian wildlife is endemic primate of Bangka, Sumatra, Kalimantan and Natuna Islands. Studies on nutrition requirement through feed consumption and utilization of western tarsier was conducted in the Small Mammal Captivity of Zoology Division, Research Center for Biology, Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) Cibinong, Bogor. The results indicated that average of dry matter intake was 4.05±0.14 g/head/day or 4.01±0.24% of body weight. Diets given were cricket and grasshopper, considered high coefficient of dry matter digestibility (94.33±1.76%). Average of the following nutrient intake was ash 4.12±0.04%; crude protein 64.52±0.49%; fat 12.82±0.68%; crude fiber 6.59±0.11%; nitrogen free extract 12.03±0.79% and gross energy 23.54±0.67 kcal/head/day. Average of body weight gain of western tarsier at this experiment was 0.5 5± 0.2 g/head/day with average of feed efficiency was 13.39±4.66% and protein efficiency ratio was 0.21±0.07 g/day. Abstract

Both monoculture and polyculture farm forestry were in Tanah Laut District. The plants forming the monoculture farm forestry were rubber, teak, coconut, and acacias. The areas of rubber farm forestry were scattered all over the district. Based on Surat Kepala Dinas Kehutanan Kabupaten Tanah Laut No. 522/202/PPHH/Dishut, there were 43 plant species in the polyculture one; 16 species were categorized as the farm wood and 27 as the other wood. Based on Surat Keputusan Menteri Kehutanan No. SK 272/Menhut-V/2004, there were 44 plant species and 16 of those were the multi purpose tree species. Abstract

The aims of the research were to provide a base-line for interpreting and documenting future changes in vegetation cover. Base maps such as navigation map issued by Dishidros, the department of transportation year 1912 and 1917, and map of proposed Bintuni bay natural reserved issued by Biphut, Forestry Department year 2000, were compared to Landsat TMS images from 1989, 1999, and 2002 to evaluate changes in coastline: significant changes in land formation due to accretion and erosion were recorded. Abstract

The dengue fever was the most dangerously epidemic in Indonesia, so it is important to prevent the population of Aedes aegypti L. The larva stages of Ae. aegypti had an exosceleton from chitin, so if its exosceleton had been degraded the larva would be died. Many bacteria had chitin degradation activities, and the bacteria had potential as a biocontrol for Ae. aegypti larva stages. This research was got many of the local chitinolitic bacteria that had been potential as a biocontrol for Ae. aegypti larva stages. The chitinolitic bacteria were isolated with selective agar medium. The sources of isolates were collected from Central Java and West Java water resources. Selected isolates was done to get the higher chitinolitic activity in mineral water medium. The isolate LMB1-5 was potential as a bioinsecticide for Ae. aegypti larva stages. Abstract

Research on the effect of maturated stages and soaking treatment of water and Giberrelic Acid hormone on Brucea javanica germination was carried out at Macropropagation Laboratory, Research Centre of Biology, LIPI, Cibinong-Bogor. The research study arranged by Factorial in Completely Randomized Design with 2 factors and 3 replications, each replication with 20 seeds sample. The first factor was maturated stage of fruits with 3 levels factor i.e. green, brown and black peels, and the second factor was soaking treatment with 6 levels factor i.e. 0 (control), 1, 3 days in water, 500, 1000, 1500 mg/L in GA3 solution. The results showed that the maturated stage had significant on seeds germination of B. javanica. The black peel of maturated stage of fruit was the best factor on chosen on B. javanica seedling, in comparing with brown and green peels. Soaking treatment in GA3 solution was effective on trigger of seeds germination of B. javanica. The combination treatment of black peel maturated stage with 1500 mg/L GA3 solution were the best result for all parameter observation i.e. on the first germination (4 days), rich germination 50% (10 days), germination percentage (93.33%) and germination value (7.074). Abstract

Gelling agents which is an important component in plant tissue culture media is considered expensive which causes high cost of plant micropropagation in developing countries. The objective of the study was to evaluate various commercial starches (hunkue, sago, tapioca, maize and arrowroot) and food agars for substitution of standard technical agar which commonly used in tissue culture medium. Young stem cuttings with five buds of cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz. genotype Iding and Gebang) cultured on MS hormone-free media solidified with those starches and agars. Parameters observed were total and length of shoots and rate of contamination. Result of studyshowed that the highest total shoots (2.45) on genotype Iding obtained from Agar Swallow 0.8% (control), meanwhile on Gebang (2.85) obtained from tapioca 25%. The highest shoot length on genotype Iding (17.2 mm) obtained from maize, meanwhile on Gebang obtained from agar Sinar Kencana 2% (8.95 mm). Contamination rate of explants caused by bacteria or fungi on genotype Iding was 30-70%, meanwhile on Gebang was 20-60%. Abstract

Orchid is one of ornamental plants which have commercial value. Therefore most species are becoming threatened or even endangered because of over exploitation. In addition, its natural habitat is also decreasing. Conservation must be done urgently, both by in situ and ex situ conservation, which can be started by orchid inventory. The orchid inventory was done in TWA Bukit Kelam, TWA Baning and several places in Regency of Sintang, West Kalimantan. Abstract

Ecological studies on mangrove forest in East Coast of North Sumatra have been carried out with field work in transect method and laboratory analyses. This study would be covered on floristic composition, abrasion, green belt, soil properties, and water quality of mangroves. Land system map and landsat TM imagery (year 1996 coverage) as main material in this study were used and overlay to determine training area. Based on vegetation inventory found that 20 mangrove species and by vegetation analyses, we known that Avicennia marina was as dominant tree species of seedling and sapling stage. Tree stage was not found in the area, yet. Environment properties of the mangrove area were suitable for mangrove growth and rehabilitation with the exception of pyrite content in the mangrove soil. Average of mangrove green belt was 25 m with range from 10 to 80 m in KJP (Kajapah) land system and 30 m with range 10 to 50 m in PTG (Putting) land system. Two alkaloid compounds (nicotine and caffeine) together with three phenolic compounds (catechin, proanthocyanidin and phenolic acid) were firstly detected in Rafflesia hasseltii and its host, Tetrastigma leucostaphylum in Bukit Tigapuluh National Park, Riau.
