Abstract

This study examines the quality of hadiths through an analysis of the criteria for authenticity and weakness based on the science of musthalah al-hadith, while also assessing their authority within Islamic jurisprudence, legal theory, and contemporary practice. The findings indicate that authentic (sahih) hadiths possess strong validity as legal sources due to their reliable chains of transmission and consistent textual integrity, whereas weak (dhaif) hadiths require caution and are accepted only within limited contexts such as virtuous deeds. The study highlights methodological differences among classical and contemporary scholars regarding the use of weak hadiths. Furthermore, modern digital platforms significantly influence the circulation of hadiths, emphasizing the urgency of strengthening religious literacy so society can distinguish textual authenticity. This research underscores the importance of hadith criticism methodology in preserving the integrity of Islamic teachings and ensuring accurate public understanding.

Abstract

The ecological crisis caused by plastic waste has evolved into a global issue, particularly through air pollution resulting from open burning, which poses serious threats to human health and environmental sustainability. This study analyzes the phenomenon of plastic smoke pollution from the perspective of hadith using a maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah approach. The hadith prohibiting harm to oneself and others (lā ḍarar wa lā ḍirār) and the prohibition of isrāf (excessiveness) serve as the normative foundation for assessing the ecological and ethical dangers of plastic burning practices. The method employed is library research, examining relevant hadiths, classical and contemporary commentaries (sharḥ), as well as modern scientific studies on plastic pollution. The findings indicate that these hadiths not only regulate social ethics but also embody ecological principles that support sustainability agendas. The maqāṣid analysis affirms that burning plastic violates the principles of ḥifẓ al-nafs (protection of life), ḥifẓ al-nasl (protection of progeny), ḥifẓ al-māl (protection of property), and ḥifẓ al-bī’ah (protection of the environment). This research contributes to the development of Islamic environmental ethics by offering a normative framework that can serve as a foundation for regulations, fatwas, and public policies in addressing the modern ecological crisis.

Abstract

The study of Munāsabah in the Qur'an not only aims to uncover the structural coherence between verses and suras, but also serves as a means to explore the social and ethical messages embedded in the text. This article examines the munāsabah between Surah al-Fil and Surah Quraysh from the perspective of Fakhr al- Din al-Razi as presented in his commentary Mafatih al-Ghayb. This research uses qualitative methods with a library-based approach, utilizing primary and secondary sources. The findings indicate that al-Razi considered the two suras to be closely related, both as a unified thematic entity and as two distinct suras that remain conceptually interconnected. The narrative of the destruction of the elephant army in Surah al- Fil is interpreted as a manifestation of divine protection over Mecca, which is then followed by the affirmation of the Quraysh as a community blessed with security, economic stability, and social prestige. This Munāsabah underscores that this privilege is not absolute, but is accompanied by ethical demands in the form of social responsibility and devotion to God. Therefore, this study shows that munāsabah in al- Razi's interpretation goes beyond textual coherence to reflect the values of security and social responsibility in collective life.

Abstract

This article examines the concept of rising from adversity in the Qur’an through the study of verses that narrate the story of Prophet Ayyub (Job). In human life, individuals inevitably face various trials such as loss of wealth, physical suffering, and prolonged hardship that may lead to despair. The story of Prophet Ayyub in the Qur’an serves as an important example of patience, strong faith, and reliance upon Allah in facing severe trials. This research aims to analyze the meaning of recovery from hardship as portrayed in Qur’anic verses about Prophet Ayyub. The study employs a library research method with a thematic interpretation (maudhu’i) approach to verses related to the story of Prophet Ayyub found in several chapters of the Qur’an. The findings indicate that Prophet Ayyub’s recovery from adversity was closely related to his extraordinary patience, sincere supplication, and firm trust in Allah’s help. Through this narrative, the Qur’an provides an important lesson that every trial contains wisdom and becomes a means of strengthening faith for those who remain patient and place their trust in Allah.

Abstract

This study examines the hadith concerning misfortune associated with women in Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī by comparing the interpretations of Ibn Baṭṭāl and Ahmad Fudhaili in order to understand its meaning in a more contextual and proportional manner. This research employs a qualitative method based on library research. Primary data are obtained from authoritative hadith collections such as Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī and Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim, while secondary data include supporting literature such as Qur’anic exegesis, hadith commentaries, and academic journals. Data collection techniques involve examining hadith texts, identifying the sanad (chain of transmission) and matn (text of the hadith), and analyzing both classical and contemporary interpretations. The findings show that the interpretation of women as bearers of misfortune is more socio-cultural than theological in nature. Ibn Baṭṭāl interprets the hadith literally while still considering contextual possibilities. In contrast, Ahmad Fudhaili firmly rejects misogynistic interpretations and emphasizes a more humane and just interpretive approach. Therefore, interpretations that marginalize women should be critically reexamined to align with Islamic values of justice, equality, and humanity.

Abstract

This study aims to critically examine the concept of secularization in the thought of Nurcholish Madjid by situating it within the framework of tawhid. The research is motivated by the stagnation of Islamic thought amid modern challenges and the widespread misunderstanding of secularization, which is often equated with secularism. This study employs a qualitative method using library research, combined with a descriptive-analytical approach and content analysis techniques. The findings reveal that secularization, in Madjid’s perspective, does not imply the separation of religion from public life, but rather a process of desacralization of worldly matters that have been excessively sanctified. In this context, secularization is understood as a logical consequence of tawhid, affirming that only God is absolute. However, critical analysis indicates the presence of conceptual ambiguities, particularly in the use of the term secularization and the distinction between the sacred and the profane. Therefore, while the concept remains relevant in promoting Islamic intellectual reform, it requires methodological refinement to prevent it from drifting toward secularism or relativism.

Abstract

This article examines the contributions of Islamic thought in responding to three interrelated contemporary issues: modernity, globalization, and environmental sustainability. Employing an integrative library research approach drawing on recent primary and secondary sources (2020–2025), this study demonstrates that the Islamic epistemological framework—grounded in maqāṣid al-sharīʿah, the concept of khilāfah, and fiqh al-bīʾah—offers normative solutions that are both relevant and complementary to global sustainable development discourse. Key findings indicate that: (1) contemporary Islamic thought successfully dialogues between classical Islamic intellectual tradition and the demands of modernity without compromising theological integrity; (2) Islamic universalism provides a robust ethical foundation for responding to the disruptions of globalization; and (3) Qur'anic principles of mīzān and nahy 'an al-fasād bear direct relevance to the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This research contributes to the academic discourse of Islamic studies and global environmental studies, while providing a value-based Islamic policy framework.

Abstract

Islamic jurisprudence remains a central foundation for Muslim social life, yet its practical relevance to contemporary welfare challenges requires further academic clarification. In Indonesia, where Islamic values interact with diverse cultural, institutional, and policy contexts, social fiqh has emerged as an important framework for translating Islamic legal principles into socially responsive practices. However, previous studies have often discussed Islamic jurisprudence and welfare separately, leaving a gap in explaining how social fiqh bridges normative legal theory and practical community welfare outcomes. This study investigates the relationship between Islamic jurisprudence and social fiqh by addressing the question of how Islamic legal principles are interpreted through social fiqh and how this interpretation contributes to community welfare in Indonesia. The study employed a qualitative library research design by reviewing secondary sources, including peer reviewed journal articles, open access academic publications, books, book chapters, and institutional reports. The selected literature was analyzed through qualitative content analysis and thematic analysis. The findings show that maqasid al shariah, maslahah, and adaptive legal reasoning are dominant frameworks in welfare oriented Islamic jurisprudence. Social fiqh is applied through zakat management, waqf development, Islamic social finance, religious leadership, and community based welfare programs. These findings imply that Islamic jurisprudence can serve as a dynamic theoretical and practical foundation for strengthening community welfare when supported by contextual interpretation, institutional accountability, and community participation.

Abstract

Islamic education plays an important role in forming individuals who are religious and have noble character. However, to achieve this goal, Islamic education cannot stand alone. The role and position of the community have a significant impact on shaping the direction and quality of this religious education system. This research aims to analyze the influence of the community's role in the development of Islamic religious education in Indonesia. The method used is library research with a descriptive qualitative approach, where data is collected from various literatures such as books and relevant scientific journals using content analysis techniques. The results show that the community has an obligation to maintain the continuity of education as a shared responsibility between the government, family, and educational institutions. There are three main factors that necessitate good communication between educational institutions and the community: changes in the nature of teaching, community expectations regarding educational changes, and the development of democratic thinking. Furthermore, community involvement can be carried out individually or organizationally, ranging from the use of services to decision-making in the development of madrasah.

Abstract

Contemporary urban Muslim communities experience spiritual fragmentation, psychological pressure, and existential anxiety as consequences of modernization, digital acceleration, and urban lifestyles. This study aims to analyze the construction of discourse, dominant messages, and transformational values embedded in the preaching of Habib Umar bin Hafidz in Jakarta together with Majelis Rasulullah SAW. The research employs a qualitative approach using Content Analysis integrated with Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA). Primary data were obtained from recordings of the YouTube broadcast “Rihlah Jakarta 2025.” The data were analyzed through thematic coding, discourse interpretation, and ideological analysis to identify patterns of spiritual communication and the construction of religious meaning. The findings reveal that the dominant themes of the preaching include love for Prophet Muhammad, strengthening of tawhid, spiritual purification, prophetic morality, and Islamic brotherhood. The study further shows that Habib Umar employs a humanistic, persuasive, and non-confrontational preaching model characterized by emotional spirituality, compassionate narratives, and reflective religious discourse. This study proposes the concept of “transformational da’wah based on prophetic spirituality” as an alternative framework for understanding contemporary urban da’wah. The findings contribute to the study of Islamic communication by demonstrating that prophetic spirituality functions not only as theological discourse but also as emotional healing, identity construction, and social transformation within modern urban Muslim communities.
