Abstract

Background. Childbirth is a challenging experience, and the involvement of the husband in providing emotional and physical support can significantly impact maternal outcomes. However, paternal involvement in non-pharmacological labor support remains underexplored, particularly in Balikpapan. Purpose. This study aimed to optimize the role of husbands in supporting their wives during labor through education and simulation of non-pharmacological techniques. Method. The research employed a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test approach, involving 50 couples from Balikpapan. Participants attended educational sessions on non-pharmacological pain relief techniques, followed by simulation exercises where husbands practiced these methods. Results. The results showed a significant increase in husbands’ knowledge, with the mean post-test score rising from 35% to 78%. Moreover, husbands demonstrated a 60% improvement in applying non-pharmacological techniques during simulated labor scenarios. Conclusion. The findings suggest that targeted education and simulation effectively enhance husbands’ preparedness to provide essential support during labor, contributing to improved maternal comfort and reduced anxiety. This study highlights the importance of including paternal education in prenatal care programs, advocating for a more family-centered approach to childbirth. Future research should explore the long-term effects of such interventions and their applicability across diverse cultural contexts.

Abstract

Background. The digital age has introduced Artificial Intelligence (AI) to transform education. However, rural schools often lack these opportunities. This research investigates how AI-driven pedagogy can empower Arabic language teachers in underserved rural communities. Purpose. The study's primary objective is to evaluate the impact of AI tools on teaching practices. Specifically, it assesses how AI can enhance pedagogical effectiveness, increase student engagement, and ultimately improve learning outcomes in Arabic language classes. Method. The research utilized a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach. Teachers actively participated in the research process, experimenting with AI tools, reflecting on their use, and adapting their teaching strategies. Data were collected via interviews, observations, and feedback surveys. Results. Findings demonstrate significant improvements. AI tools enhanced instructional effectiveness and facilitated personalized learning. This led to increased student interest and participation in Arabic lessons. Teachers also reported greater satisfaction in meeting diverse student needs. Conclusion. AI is crucial for empowering rural educators. By providing tools for personalized and effective instruction, AI integration helps bridge educational gaps. This fosters a more inclusive and sustainable learning environment in underserved rural settings.

Abstract

Background. Community-based home industries play a vital role in the economic development of emerging economies, offering a source of livelihood and preserving local cultures. The synergy between social capital and vocational training is increasingly recognized as crucial for the sustainability of these industries. Social capital, encompassing networks, relationships, and trust, alongside vocational training, which enhances skills and productivity, can significantly impact the long-term success of home-based businesses. Purpose. This study aims to evaluate how the interaction between social capital and vocational training influences the sustainability of community-based home industries in emerging economies. Method. A mixed-methods approach was employed, including surveys to measure business performance and qualitative interviews to understand the role of social networks and training in business success. Results. The results reveal that firms with strong social networks and access to vocational training show higher levels of productivity, market access, and longevity. These businesses experienced up to a 30% increase in productivity and a 25% improvement in sustainability compared to those without access to both factors. Conclusion. The findings emphasize that integrating social capital with vocational training enhances the resilience of small businesses in low-resource environments, providing valuable insights for policymakers seeking to support sustainable entrepreneurship.

Abstract

Background. The integration of digital infrastructure within the smart city paradigm has frequently prioritized technocratic efficiency over authentic civic engagement, leading to a critical need to re-evaluate how technology serves local communities. Purpose. This research explores the dynamics of digital participation to determine whether current smart initiatives truly foster grassroots empowerment or merely digitize existing institutional hierarchies. Method. A qualitative case study design was employed, utilizing semi-structured interviews and digital ethnography to analyze interaction patterns within community-led and municipal platforms. Results. Findings reveal a persistent agency paradox, where high technological access does not equate to political influence; instead, meaningful empowerment is driven by decentralized platform architectures and high levels of digital literacy. Results indicate that communities utilizing peer-to-peer networks achieve significantly higher policy impact compared to those restricted to top-down administrative applications. Conclusion. The study concludes that rethinking empowerment requires a shift from transactional service delivery to Algorithmic Agency, where citizens possess the autonomy to manage and contest community data. True smartness must be redefined through the lens of democratic inclusivity and technical self-sufficiency. This research provides a foundational framework for urban planners to design more equitable digital ecosystems that prioritize human-centric empowerment over purely operational metrics.
