Abstract

The rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) has significantly influenced various sectors, including education, particularly in the context of the disruptive era. This study aims to examine the dynamics of AI-based Islamic Religious Education (IRE) learning and its implications for the moral character formation of students. The research employs a qualitative approach through a literature study, drawing on various academic sources such as books, journal articles, and relevant scientific publications. The data collection technique involves systematic documentation and review of literature related to AI in education, IRE learning strategies, and character education. Data analysis is conducted through stages of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing to synthesize key findings and identify patterns across the literature. The results indicate that the integration of artificial intelligence in IRE learning provides opportunities for more adaptive, personalized, and interactive learning experiences. However, it also presents challenges, particularly in maintaining the balance between technological advancement and the cultivation of moral and spiritual values. The role of educators remains crucial in guiding students to internalize ethical values, ensuring that technology serves as a tool to support, rather than replace, the process of character formation. In conclusion, AI-based IRE learning in the disruptive era has significant implications for students’ moral character development. It requires a balanced approach that integrates technological innovation with value-based education to foster morally responsible and spiritually grounded individuals.

Abstract

Adab (ethical education) is a crucial aspect in shaping the character of students (santri) in Islamic boarding schools (pesantren), particularly in preventing negative behaviors such as bullying that can damage social relationships among students. This study aims to analyze the implementation of adab education at Islamic Boarding School Mauidzul Amin Al-Islamy and its relevance in preventing bullying behavior within the pesantren environment, with reference to the values of adab education in Al-Mawardi’s thought. This research employs a qualitative approach with a field research design. Data were collected through observation, interviews with caregivers, administrators, and students, as well as documentation of various mentoring activities in the pesantren. The results indicate that adab education in this Islamic Boarding School is implemented through classical Islamic text studies, guidance from caregivers, spiritual development through Sufism studies, supervision by male and female teachers (ustadz/ustadzah) in dormitories, and the enforcement of pesantren regulations with educational sanctions. This implementation contributes to fostering students’ moral awareness and creating more harmonious social relationships, thereby serving as a preventive effort against bullying behavior.

Abstract

Islam fundamentally promotes respect and the acceptance of diversity, asserting that all individuals—including persons with disabilities—possess inherent Human Dignity (ahsanu taqwim) and equal rights before God. Despite robust legal mandates in Indonesia, significant challenges persist within Islamic educational institutions (madrasahs). While the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia guarantees the right to education for every citizen, and Government Regulation No. 13/2020 mandates that educational institutions provide Reasonable Accommodation for persons with disabilities, the practical implementation remains limited. Furthermore, although the Regulation of the Minister of Religious Affairs (PMA) No. 1/2024 has strengthened the framework for quality inclusive education in madrasahs, empirical data reveals a stark disparity: only 0.6% of registered Students with Special Needs in these institutions currently receive Reasonable Accommodation. This gap is exacerbated by systemic structural issues and prevailing social stigmas regarding institutional quality. This study seeks to reconstruct the paradigm of inclusive education within an Islamic context, advocating for a transition from mere regulatory compliance toward a profound spiritual and theological obligation. This research employs a qualitative approach utilizing library research. Data analysis was conducted through a systematic content analysis of primary Islamic texts, Indonesian legal frameworks, and empirical datasets retrieved from the Ministry of Religious Affairs' EMIS system. The study proposes a "Transformative Theo-Inclusive Paradigm" that synthesizes the Islamic principle of Human Dignity (Karamah Insaniyyah) with the pedagogical requirements of inclusive education. The findings indicate that while inclusive practices have been initiated in 1,070 madrasahs, quantitative progress remains inadequate due to a critical shortage of qualified Special Assistant Teachers (GPK) and limited supporting resources. This research emphasizes that the provision of Reasonable Accommodation is not merely a legal mandate but a manifestation of Islamic spirituality and religious practice (sunatullah). To bridge the divide between theological ideals and institutional realities, madrasahs must internalize inclusive values as a core religious mandate. This transformation necessitates systemic improvements in human resource competency and a fundamental shift in institutional perspectives to eliminate discrimination against Students with Special Needs.

Abstract

The Indonesian Merdeka Curriculum positions the Pancasila Student Profile (PSP) as the central framework for character formation, yet empirical evidence on how elementary school teachers translate its six dimensions into Islamic Religious Education (PAI) lesson design remains limited. This study examines the extent of PSP integration in PAI lesson design at SD Negeri 100/II Muaro Bungo, Jambi Province, and identifies the institutional and pedagogical factors that shape its enactment. A qualitative descriptive-exploratory case study was conducted between February and May 2025, involving one PAI teacher, one school principal, and twelve students from grades IV–VI selected through purposive sampling. Data were generated through fifteen semi-structured interviews of approximately 60 minutes each, six classroom observations of 90 minutes each, and document analysis of the Capaian Pembelajaran (Learning Outcomes), Tujuan Pembelajaran (Learning Objectives), Alur Tujuan Pembelajaran (Learning Trajectory), and six teaching modules. Audio was captured at 44.1 kHz using a recorder with ±0.5 dB SPL accuracy. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, with credibility established through source, technique, and time triangulation. The teacher articulated five of six PSP dimensions during interviews, but only the dimensions of faith and piety with noble character (89%) and mutual cooperation (67%) were explicitly mapped into the analyzed lesson documents; critical reasoning, creativity, and global diversity appeared in fewer than 20% of plans. Three recurring barriers were identified: limited Merdeka Curriculum training (under 24 hours per teacher in the past three years), absence of context-specific learning resources, and an unformalized character-habituation routine at the school level. Effective PSP integration in elementary PAI requires explicit dimension-to-objective mapping in lesson templates, sustained teacher professional development, and a coordinated school family partnership for value habituation.

Abstract

Rural Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) in Indonesia face persistent enrollment volatility amid accelerating modernization, digital transformation of educational information-seeking, and intensified competition with credentialed formal schools. Existing scholarship has examined either conventional promotion or digital marketing in pesantren contexts, yet integrative analyses linking sociocultural ties, managerial decisions, and geographic-economic conditions remain limited. This study examines how Pondok Pesantren Darussalamah, located in a remote sub-district of Tebo Regency, Jambi Province, sustained enrollment growth from six students at its founding in 2011 to approximately 120 students by 2025. A descriptive qualitative case-study design was adopted. Data were collected between May and August 2025 through participant observation of daily and recruitment activities, semi-structured in-depth interviews with eight informants selected by purposive sampling (the head of the pesantren, three teachers, two active students, one alumnus, and one parent representative), and documentary review of brochures, social-media archives, and enrollment records spanning 2011–2025. Analysis followed the Miles and Huberman interactive model; credibility was secured through source and method triangulation, member checking, and prolonged engagement. Enrollment growth was sustained by five interlocking practices: relational engagement with the surrounding community, affordable-tuition and scholarship policies, integrated formal-religious curriculum with disciplinary structure, character-oriented extracurricular programs, and hybrid socio-religious–digital promotion. Persistent constraints included inadequate facilities, weak data-driven planning, geographic remoteness, and heterogeneous community religious perceptions. Mitigation depended on alumni-mediated social capital, hybrid promotion, economic affirmation, and incremental managerial professionalization. The findings suggest that recruitment success in rural pesantren depends less on formal marketing intensity than on relational legitimacy, managerial adaptability, and inclusive access policies.

Abstract

Sufism is a method of spiritual education aimed at shaping individuals with a deep sense of the divine. Education is not merely about the transfer of knowledge, but also the shaping of character through consistent spiritual practices. Dayah Darussalam Al-Waliyyah in Labuhan Haji implements Sufism through the practice of suloek as a tradition of the Naqshbandi order to draw closer to Allah through dhikr, tawajjuh, and the control of worldly desires. The objective of this study is to understand how Sufi practices are carried out in the suloek tradition in Aceh. The research method employed is ethnography, in which the researcher actively participates in the research process. The findings reveal the presence of Sufi practices within suloek, as the stages of suloek are intrinsically linked to Sufism for instance, the teachings emphasize patience, diligence, and a focus solely on worship. Thus, since the suloek contains elements of Sufism, the study of Sufism is inherent in the practice of the suloek.

Abstract

Strengthening religious character among adolescents has become increasingly urgent as digitalisation and globalisation expose students to diverse values that may weaken moral foundations. Previous studies have discussed the influence of worship habituation on student behaviour, but limited attention has been given to the role of informal religious practices as a hidden curriculum for systematic character formation. This study analysed the implementation of the Dhuha prayer as a hidden curriculum strategy for shaping the religious character of students at SMP Ad-Dhuha, an Islamic junior high school in Bungo Regency, Indonesia. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed. Participants included the principal, two Islamic education teachers, and twelve students from grades VII–IX selected through purposive sampling. Data were gathered through twelve non-participant observation sessions, semi-structured interviews lasting 45–60 minutes, and documentation review. Data analysis followed the Miles and Huberman interactive model, while trustworthiness was ensured through source and method triangulation. The findings revealed that the routine congregational Dhuha prayer conducted before classroom instruction fostered five interconnected character dimensions: discipline, devotional consistency, responsibility, courteous behaviour, and exemplary conduct. These values were strengthened through teacher modelling, structured scheduling, and the school’s religious atmosphere. The practice functioned beyond the formal curriculum by transmitting values through daily routines rather than explicit teaching. The study concludes that the Dhuha prayer serves as an effective hidden curriculum mechanism for religious character development and provides a practical model for Islamic schools facing rapid sociocultural change. The findings further emphasise continuous spiritual habituation for sustaining students’ moral awareness and social behavior

Abstract

This study critically examines the theological and ethical implications of illicit (haram) income on the acceptance of supplication, with particular attention to its consequences for child piety and spiritual development. Employing a qualitative approach grounded in hadith analysis, the research investigates the prophetic tradition narrated by Abu Hurairah in Sahih Muslim concerning the rejected supplication of a traveler whose sustenance derives from forbidden sources. The analysis reveals a strong correlation between the halal status of provision and the efficacy of worship, extending this principle to contemporary cases of parents who pursue unlawful income under the justification of providing for their children. Drawing upon classical jurisprudential sources, modern scholarly interpretations, and empirical data on economic behavior in Muslim-majority societies, the study argues that the pursuit of haram income undermines both the spiritual standing of the provider and the religious formation of dependents. The findings highlight the need to reassess prevalent economic practices within Muslim communities and emphasize that genuine parental responsibility entails not only material provision but also the sanctification of such provision through adherence to Islamic ethical standards. This research contributes to ongoing discourse on Islamic economic ethics and family law by demonstrating that the hadith’s theological warning retains immediate relevance for contemporary Muslim families navigating tensions between economic pressures and religious obligations.
