Abstract

This study aims to analyze the emergence and variety of Islamic educational institutions in the Nusantara during the pre-Dutch colonial period (13th–16th centuries) and to examine the influence of social and political factors on their development. This research uses a qualitative method with a library research approach and descriptive-analytical analysis of various relevant scientific literature sources. The study results indicate that the emergence of Islamic educational institutions was part of the Islamization process, which occurred gradually through trade, social, and cultural interactions. Educational institutions developed in various forms such as surau, pesantren, dayah, meunasah, and langgar, which adapted to local conditions. Social factors such as the need for religious education, interaction with Muslim traders, the role of scholars, and community development became the main drivers, while political factors such as support from Islamic kingdoms, the integration of power and religion, and scholar networks strengthened legitimacy and continuity. In conclusion, Islamic educational institutions in the pre-colonial period not only functioned as centers of religious education, but also as part of the socio-political system that played a role in shaping the character of society and the structure of power.

Abstract

Elementary school learning still faces the problem of low student motivation due to the implementation of teaching methods that tend to be uniform and teacher-centered. This condition requires learning innovations that can accommodate differences in students’ characteristics. One relevant approach is differentiated learning combined with behaviorist theory through the application of stimulus, response, and reinforcement. This study aims to analyze the implementation of behaviorist theory through differentiated learning and to examine the improvement in learning motivation among sixth-grade students at SD Negeri 27 Tanjungpandan. The research method used was a descriptive approach, with data collection techniques including observation and interviews with teachers and students. This study also provides practical implications for elementary school teachers in designing more varied and responsive learning experiences tailored to students’ needs. Teachers are expected to consistently integrate differentiation strategies with behaviorist principles to create more meaningful learning experiences. The results showed that the implementation of behaviorist-based differentiated learning was able to increase students’ activeness, perseverance, and interest in learning. This was indicated by increased student participation in classroom activities, greater confidence in answering questions, and higher enthusiasm in completing assignments. The provision of reinforcement in the form of praise and rewards proved effective in strengthening students’ positive learning behaviors. Adjusting tasks according to students’ abilities also enhanced their self-confidence and engagement in the learning process. Therefore, differentiated learning based on behaviorist theory has been proven effective in sustainably improving students’ learning motivation.

Abstract

Character education among elementary and secondary school students faces various serious challenges, particularly due to moral degradation, low discipline, intolerant behavior, misuse of social media, and weak internalization of moral values in daily life. These conditions indicate that character education has not been implemented optimally and remains dominated by academic orientation. This study aims to analyze the exemplary method from the Qur’anic perspective in strengthening students’ character, explain its normative and psychological foundations, and examine the effectiveness of its implementation in the context of contemporary education and the digital era. The study employed a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach using the PRISMA model through the stages of identification, screening, eligibility, and inclusion. Literature searches were conducted through Google Scholar, Garuda, DOAJ, and SINTA databases using keywords related to exemplary methods and character education. Out of 87 identified articles, 35 articles met the inclusion criteria and were further analyzed using content analysis techniques. The findings indicate that the exemplary method is effective in developing students’ discipline, responsibility, religiosity, integrity, social empathy, communication ethics, and learning motivation. The concept of uswah hasanah in the Qur’an also demonstrates strong relevance to Albert Bandura’s Social Learning Theory and Lawrence Kohlberg’s moral development theory. The novelty of this study lies in the integration of the Qur’anic perspective with modern educational psychology theories as well as the analysis of exemplary methods within the context of digital culture. This study concludes that the exemplary method constitutes a relevant and effective moral education paradigm for strengthening students’ character in the modern era.

Abstract

Honorary Kindergarten teachers in remote areas of West Aceh face the challenge of low salaries ranging from IDR 50,000–250,000 per month, which depend on tuition fees of IDR 10,000–20,000 collected from 18–25 students per kindergarten, as well as limited opportunities to become civil servants (PNS) or government employees under work agreements (PPPK). This study aims to identify the motivations of honorary teachers, the role of community support, and its impact on the learning of Islamic values, as well as to provide policy recommendations based on Islamic values. Using a qualitative approach with a mini-ethnographic design, data were collected through interviews with 6 honorary teachers and 4 parents from four kindergartens in Arongan Lambalek and Woyla Barat Districts, observations in two kindergartens, and documentation. The results show that honorary teachers are dedicated to early childhood education during the golden age period, reflecting the value of sincerity (ikhlas) (Qur'an, Al-Bayyinah: 5), despite being constrained by low salaries and having side jobs such as selling fried snacks, farming, or sewing. Farming and fishing communities provide assistance in the form of food, agricultural products, or fish, reflecting ta’awun (mutual assistance) (Qur'an, Al-Maidah: 2), but this does not address the systemic problems. Low welfare conditions contradict the principle of justice (Qur'an, An-Nisa: 58). Recommendations include increasing regional budget (APBD) allocations for salaries, expanding PPPK quotas, providing entrepreneurship training, strengthening ta’awun, and improving PIAUD facilities. This study emphasizes the importance of teacher welfare for the quality of Islamic early childhood education in remote areas.

Abstract

Islamic Cultural History (SKI) learning at the secondary school level remains largely dominated by chronological-descriptive and moralistic approaches, limiting students' analytical development. This study aims to analyze the dynamics of Abbasid political power in contemporary academic literature, examine their representation in SKI teaching materials at the MTs and MA levels, and formulate a reconstruction grounded in historical thinking. A Systematic Literature Review (SLR) based on PRISMA 2020 guidelines was employed, drawing from Google Scholar, Scopus, Dimensions, Crossref, DOAJ, Garuda, and Moraref. Of 150 documents identified, 15 primary sources were analyzed through thematic synthesis. Findings indicate that contemporary historiography views the Abbasid Caliphate as a complex political phenomenon marked by power centralization, transformation of caliph-military relations, political fragmentation, and the development of Islamic political thought. Analysis of SKI materials reveals a significant gap between modern historiography and existing linear-moralistic representations. This study proposes a reconstruction of teaching materials emphasizing historical causality, the use of Islamic primary sources, and the connection between Abbasid political experience and contemporary issues.

Abstract

The development of social media has given rise to the phenomenon of Fear of Missing Out (FOMO), which refers to the feeling of anxiety about missing information, opportunities, or trends that are currently popular. This phenomenon not only influences consumer behavior but also affects the business decisions of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). This study aims to examine the influence of FOMO trends on the selling interest of MSME actors in the Car Free Day (CFD) area. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach using purposive sampling techniques. The informants consisted of MSME actors who actively sell products in the CFD area and regularly use social media in their daily activities. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation, and were analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was ensured through source triangulation and technique triangulation. The findings indicate that social media trends play a significant role in encouraging MSME actors to engage in selling activities at CFD events. Information about viral products, the success of other sellers, and content showcasing potential profits motivate MSME actors to start or expand their businesses. In addition, FOMO encourages MSME actors to respond more quickly to changing trends in order to avoid missing market opportunities. However, decisions to follow trends are also influenced by considerations such as profitability, business capital, and product suitability. The study further reveals that FOMO has both positive and negative impacts. On the positive side, it increases awareness of business opportunities, while on the negative side, it may lead to losses when business actors follow trends without adequate planning and careful consideration.

Abstract

This study aimed to enhance the learning motivation of eleventh-grade students at SMA Negeri 3 Meulaboh through the implementation of flipbook-based learning media on the human movement system topic. The research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design conducted in two cycles, each consisting of two meetings. The research subjects were 23 eleventh-grade students, comprising 12 female and 11 male students. Data were collected through observations of students’ learning motivation and learning outcome evaluations. The results indicated that in Cycle I, students’ learning motivation was relatively low, with a mastery level of 40%. After instructional improvements were implemented in Cycle II through the optimized use of flipbook media, students’ learning motivation significantly increased, with 78% of students demonstrating good learning motivation. These findings indicate that flipbook-based learning media are effective in enhancing students’ learning motivation and can be utilized as an interactive instructional alternative in senior high school biology learning.
