Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of Islamic branding strategies at SIT Insantama in building the institution’s reputation and public trust. Using a qualitative case study method, data were collected through interviews and observations involving school stakeholders. The results reveal that SIT Insantama has successfully positioned itself as a credible Islamic educational institution by integrating Islamic values into all aspects of learning, supported by consistent communication through digital platforms. The branding strategy employed does not merely aim for promotional exposure but serves as a medium of value-based communication and cultural da'wah. The institution prioritizes authenticity, emotional engagement, and alignment with Islamic identity in its communication and branding content. Through selective use of social media trends and a transparent internal communication approach, SIT Insantama builds strong emotional bonds with its stakeholders, enhancing its brand equity in the competitive Islamic education sector. This study offers insights into how value-driven branding can shape institutional identity and contribute to sustainable reputation-building in Islamic educational settings.

Abstract

This study discusses a participatory model of student da'wah communication through wall magazines (mading) as an alternative to strengthening da'wah skills in the educational environment. The background of this study stems from the weak communication skills of students in da'wah, which tend to be monotonous and lack creativity, thus requiring participatory media that can encourage active involvement. The objectives of this study are to describe the forms of student participation in planning, producing, and evaluating mading dakwah, as well as to analyze its relevance to the theory of dakwah communication and participatory communication theory. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method, conducted at the PKBM PNF KBRI Kuala Lumpur. Data was obtained through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study show that the process of communication of da'wah through wall magazines takes place participatively in five main stages, namely identification of message needs, joint planning, content production, distribution, and evaluation. This model combines elements of da'wah communication (da'i, mad'u, message, media, effect) with the principles of participatory communication (dialogical, inclusive, bottom-up, and empowering). Thus, this study concludes that wall magazines are effective as a participatory da'wah medium that empowers students as communicators and creators of da'wah messages.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the transformation of human resource (HR) management in the media industry, which is now dominated by Generation Z, a digital-native generation that brings new values, behaviors, and expectations to work systems. Amidst the acceleration of digitalization and the emergence of technologies such as the metaverse, augmented reality, and artificial intelligence, HR management in newsrooms is required to adapt not only technologically but also culturally. This study uses a qualitative approach with descriptive methods, supported by in-depth interviews and observations with ten informants from the Gen Z group working in the digital media sector. The results show that Gen Z is not only an implementer but also an agent of change that drives a shift in work paradigms: from bureaucratic structures to collaborative systems, from administrative control to a values-based approach. Gen Z demands work flexibility, space for participation, and a management system that values diversity, transparency, and sustainability. By combining Kurt Lewin's Change Management theory with John Kotter's approach, this study finds that most media organizations are still in the "unfreeze" stage and have not yet optimally built work systems that are truly aligned with the characteristics of Gen Z. The transformations that have occurred so far tend to be technical and partial, not addressing comprehensive structural and cultural changes. This study recommends that media companies undertake a strategic reorientation of human resource management as a foundation for industry sustainability in the digital and metaverse era.

Abstract

This study analyzes the crisis communication strategies employed by the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) during the 2025 Hajj pilgrimage, which was marked by logistical and administrative problems, and their impact on public perception. The urgency of this research lies in the need for transparent and rapid communication to restore public trust during institutional crises. Using a qualitative case study approach, the study draws on press releases, social media statements, and media observations of Kemenag’s responses. Situational Crisis Communication Theory (SCCT) and Image Repair Theory are applied to examine the ministry’s communication strategies. The findings show that public sentiment toward the 2025 Hajj administration was predominantly negative, with complaints concerning transportation, accommodation, and bureaucratic procedures. Kemenag’s responses tended to emphasize image management through deny and diminish strategies, supported by clarifications that lacked concrete solutions. SCCT analysis indicates that rebuild and reinforce strategies were ineffective without corrective actions. Image Repair analysis also reveals insufficient restoration efforts due to the absence of compensation or strong justification. The study proposes the T-REACT crisis communication model.

Abstract

This study examines how digital affect shapes the escalation of religion-based hate speech in the new media public sphere and disrupts Islamic communication ethics. Through one month of discourse observation on the X platform using Brand24, posts containing the keywords “goblok,” “tolol,” “kafir,” “hate speech,” and “ujaran kebencian” related to Islamic contexts were collected. The data were treated as discourse units to map patterns of wording, reach, and emotional tone, then interpreted using the normative framework of Islamic Communication Ethics and affect theory. The findings indicate a dominance of disgust and anger, the prevalence of derogatory labeling based on religious and intellectual identity, strong political-religious polarization, and the normalization of verbal aggression by influential accounts and media outlets. Negative affect emerges as a commodity that amplifies virality, while simultaneously driving dehumanization, the erosion of scholarly authority, and the weakening of hikmah, adab, and tabayun in public communication. The integration of Islamic moral philosophy with affect theory generates an ethical framework that reaffirms the necessity of hikmah, hilm, sidq, adab, and amanah as spiritual filters against the algorithmic structure of new media, ensuring that Islamic public communication returns to an orientation of enlightenment rather than emotional performativity.

Abstract

Studies on digital identity on social media are extensive, but the specific problem remains that the literature is fragmented in explaining how identity construction is shaped simultaneously by user meaning-making and platform design. This study addresses that problem by systematically synthesizing prior findings through the Social Construction of Technology (SCOT) lens. Using a systematic literature review guided by the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA), 15 peer-reviewed articles published between 2016–2025 were selected and analyzed thematically. The results show three consistent patterns: (1) digital identity is constructed through ongoing negotiation between users and audiences under cultural norms; (2) platform affordances and governance (e.g., visibility mechanisms, interaction features, and moderation rules) constrain and enable identity performance; and (3) identity construction is recursive—users adapt to platform structures while their practices also stabilize or reshape how technologies are used and interpreted. These findings indicate that digital identity on social media is best understood as a socio-technical outcome produced by reciprocal interactions between social contexts and technological arrangements.

Abstract

Tabekh cloth is one of the traditional cultural artifacts used in various social rituals among the community of Teladan Baru Village, Rundeng District, Subulussalam City. Although its use continues to this day, the interpretation of the symbols and colors embedded in the tabekh cloth has experienced fading and shifting, and in some cases has become disconnected from the understanding of the community that sustains the tradition. This study aims to examine the symbolic meanings of the tabekh cloth through the semiotic approach of Charles Sanders Peirce, in order to explore the relationship between symbolic forms, referential meanings, and interpretive processes within the local cultural context. The findings indicate that the colors of the tabekh cloth carry symbolic meanings that represent social structures and cultural roles within the community of Teladan Baru Village. However, several decorative symbols on the tabekh cloth are no longer understood in terms of their meanings and function merely as visual ornaments without consciously recognized cultural significance. These findings underscore a disconnection between customary practices and symbolic interpretation, which has implications for the weakening of intergenerational transmission of cultural values.

Abstract

The demand for speed in delivering news online often causes journalists to sacrifice accuracy and ethical standards. Therefore, prophetic journalism emerges as a paradigm that emphasises prophetic values. This study aims to identify how Kediripedia.com implements these values and how the platform leverages opportunities and faces challenges to maintain journalistic quality. A constructivist paradigm and qualitative approach were employed to collect data through interviews, observation and documentation, which were then analysed using Teun A. van Dijk’s three-dimensional Critical Discourse Analysis. The findings reveal that Kediripedia.com successfully integrates prophetic journalism values into its editorial practices and news products. Shiddiq (truthfulness) is reflected in editorial honesty; Amanah (trustworthiness) in the team’s moral responsibility; Tabligh (communication) in the use of a distinctive storytelling style; and Fathanah (wisdom) in the broad interpretation of local issues. Challenges such as financial pressure, maintaining integrity and competing with other digital media are addressed through content diversification, community collaboration and developing a unique audience segmentation strategy, which strengthens Kediripedia.com’s position as a local media platform.

Abstract

This study examines how power communication practices shape obedience and silence among subordinate groups through a critical discourse analysis of George Orwell’s Animal Farm. Grounded in a critical paradigm and qualitative approach, the study applies Critical Discourse Analysis by integrating Norman Fairclough’s and Teun A. van Dijk’s frameworks. The data consist of textual units including narrative structures, dialogues, slogans, and rule transformations within the novel. The findings reveal that domination in Animal Farm is not primarily sustained through physical coercion, but through symbolic communication practices that regulate meaning production, control collective memory, and normalize inequality. The consolidation of power operates through three main mechanisms: the construction of legitimacy, the normalization of inequality, and the production of obedience and silence. Obedience emerges not as mere absence of resistance, but as the outcome of value internalization and systematic restriction of critical articulation. These results underscore that the stability of domination largely depends on communication’s capacity to shape social consciousness and constrain collective thought.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze public responses to Ferry Irwandi’s YouTube video criticizing influencers who promote online gambling, using Stuart Hall’s encoding/decoding theory and Social Network Analysis. The research data consist of 5,380 user comments collected from the video’s comment section, which serve as the object of analysis. A quantiCtative approach was applied through network analysis using Gephi to examine interaction patterns and actor centrality, complemented by qualitative content analysis to categorize audience readings into dominant, negotiated, and oppositional positions. The findings indicate that public responses are predominantly characterized by dominant–hegemonic readings, reflecting broad acceptance of the moral critique against online gambling promotion. Negotiated readings appear in the form of partial agreement combined with structural or economic considerations, while oppositional readings remain limited and peripheral within the network. The discussion demonstrates that audience interpretation is not only shaped by individual meaning-making processes but also by the hierarchical structure of online interaction networks, where highly central actors play a significant role in reinforcing dominant meanings. This study concludes that public opinion in digital spaces is formed through the interaction between encoded messages and networked social dynamics. However, the research is limited to a single case and platform, suggesting the need for future comparative and multi-platform studies.
