Abstract

Corrosion is one of the main factors causing a reduction in the service life of steel components in electrical power distribution systems, including pole brackets for 20 kV power poles. One method of protection is zinc coating through hot-dip galvanizing and electroplating. This study aims to analyze and compare the corrosion resistance of these two coating methods on steel strip as the base material for pole brackets. The research method employed was an experimental study measuring corrosion rates using the weight loss method. Specimens measuring 43 mm × 3.5 mm × 80 mm, which had been coated via hot-dip galvanizing and electroplating, were tested by immersion for 168 hours in 5% and 10% NaCl and H₂SO₄ solutions. The results showed that electroplating yielded better test results than hot-dip galvanizing, producing a smoother and more uniform coating under all test conditions. Consequently, the corrosion rate was lower, particularly in the 10% H₂SO₄ solution. This indicates that the lower corrosion resistance of the hot-dip galvanized specimens is likely influenced by imperfections in the coating resulting from the galvanizing process. Observations revealed the presence of physical defects such as flash, pinholes, and surface irregularities, which create potential entry points for corrosion. Additionally, while coating homogeneity is a factor, the greater thickness of the hot-dip galvanized coating still has the potential to provide a longer protective life under field application conditions

Abstract

Corrosion is an electrochemical reaction that causes damage to metals due to interaction with the environment, where the metal undergoes oxidation and oxidizing agents such as oxygen undergo reduction. 316l tainless steel is a metallic material characterized by high Surface deterioration resistance, but can still experience degradation in strong acidic environments such as hydrochloric acid (HCl). Efforts to slow the corrosion rate can be done by adding chemical inhibitors. This study seeks to evaluate the effect of adding two types of Compound  inhibitors on corrosion resistance and morphological changes in 316l stainless steel immersed in HCl solution. The inhibitors used in this study were Sodium Benzoate (NaC₇H₅O) and Sodium Silicate (Na₂SiO₃) each with a concentration of 8 grams. Immersion was carried out in three time variations, with immersion durations consisting of 6, 12, and 18 days.. The research methods used include observing the corrosion rate based on the sample mass before and after immersion, as well as documenting changes in surface morphology using a cellphone camera and SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope). The anticipated results of this research are to assess the performance of each inhibitor in reducing corrosion and to examine the resulting changes in the surface morphology of Stainless Steel 316L

Abstract

The production process of Rice Milling Unit (RMU) machines at PT XYZ faces serious challenges, including excessively high operating times that exceed the ideal cycle time for most production components, resulting in low machine efficiency and overall effectiveness. This study aims to analyze the root causes of inefficiency, identify problems in the RMU production process, and provide improvement recommendations and continuous control mechanisms using the DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) method. A descriptive quantitative approach was employed using production data from 120 work items, encompassing a total operating time of 234.9 hours and an actual output of 1,308 units. Effectiveness measurements using Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) revealed that the average performance value was critically low due to a significant gap between actual operating time and ideal cycle time, despite high availability and quality rate. Pareto analysis identified excessive operating time (40%) and low performance (30%) as the largest contributors to inefficiency, while the Fishbone Diagram revealed root causes in machine, work method, and human resource factors. Proposed improvements include SOP standardization, implementation of preventive maintenance, elimination of non-value-added activities, and periodic OEE monitoring. The findings demonstrate that the DMAIC method is effective in diagnosing and designing structured improvement solutions to enhance RMU production efficiency at PT XYZ.

Abstract

This study aims to design and build a simple crockmeter to test the colour-fastness to rubbing of digitally printed paper using an Arduino Uno R3-based automatic friction mechanism. The background of this research is the limited availability of an affordable and easy-to-operate crocking tester in educational laboratories, while commercial units are costly and complex. The device was developed using the Research and Development (R&D) method through three stages: 3D design using Autodesk 3D Max, prototyping with PVC board, and final construction using UNP steel frame, a DC motor JGA25-370, an L298N motor driver, and a 900-gram dry load referring to the AATCC Test Method 8 standard. Testing was conducted on five samples of 250 gsm ivory paper with black digital print, each subjected to ten dry rubbing cycles using AATCC crocking square test fabric. The colour change before and after rubbing was measured with a spectrodensitometer using the CIE L*a*b* parameters to calculate the total colour difference (ΔE). The results show that the developed crockmeter is able to perform the rubbing test consistently across the five samples, with a relatively uniform ΔE value, indicating that the tool can represent the dry-rubbing colour-fastness test reasonably well. This finding implies that the device is feasible to be used as a low-cost practicum medium that supports material-testing education in graphic engineering laboratories

Abstract

Selecting a suitable study field is a recurring challenge for final-year senior high school students because the choice affects their academic path and career orientation. At SMA Negeri 5 Tangerang Selatan, counseling activities require a data-supported instrument that can provide an initial view of students’ possible study-field tendencies. This research designed a web application that applies the K-Nearest Neighbor approach to compare student academic scores with alumni records that already contain known study-field labels. The application was built through the Waterfall development stages using Python, Flask, SQLite, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. The research data comprised 450 alumni records with four academic attributes: Mathematics, Indonesian Language, English, and Science/Social Studies. Classification was performed through data preparation, Min-Max scaling, distance measurement with Euclidean Distance, selection of nearest neighbors, and majority voting. The algorithm was tested using 10-fold cross validation and a confusion matrix for K values of 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, and 15. The highest result appeared at K=11, with 25.11% accuracy, 25.21% precision, 24.65% recall, and 24.68% F1-score. These findings indicate that the application is more appropriate as supporting information for counseling discussions than as a sole basis for determining study choices.

Abstract

The high demand for animal feed drives farmers to seek more efficient grass chopping solutions, particularly in areas with limited access to electricity. This study aims to produce a design of a solar-powered grass chopper machine, analyze the effect of cutter rotational speed on machine efficiency, analyze the effect of chopped material mass on machine efficiency, and analyze the interaction between rotational speed and material mass on machine efficiency. A quantitative experimental method was employed, with independent variables consisting of shaft pulley diameter variations of 3, 4, and 5 inches producing rotational speeds of 2250, 1689, and 1384 RPM, and material mass variations of 2, 4, and 6 kg of elephant grass (Pennisetum purpureum). The drive motor used was a 24-volt 500-watt BLDC motor powered by four 100 WP monocrystalline solar panels through a solar charge controller and a 24-volt 45 Ah battery. The chopper shaft used three sets of starblade-model chopper knives with 4 blades each. Results indicate that the highest rotational speed of 2250 RPM produced the shortest chopping time and the highest efficiency. The highest efficiency of 80.90% was achieved at a material mass of 2 kg with a rotational speed of 2250 RPM, while the lowest was 55.56% at 6 kg with 1384 RPM. Two-Way ANOVA results showed that material mass (F = 762.419; p = 0.000), rotational speed (F = 32.728; p = 0.000), and their interaction (F = 3.014; p = 0.046) significantly affected machine efficiency. The greater the material mass and the lower the rotational speed, the lower the machine efficiency.

Abstract

Piping systems are essential components in various industrial sectors, ensuring the safe and reliable transportation of fluids. The quality of welded joints plays a crucial role in maintaining structural integrity and system reliability. Although research on piping system welding continues to grow, comprehensive information regarding publication trends, author productivity, collaboration patterns, and research themes remains limited. This study aims to analyze the development of piping system welding research using a bibliometric approach. The data were collected from the Scopus database, yielding 136 documents published between 2021 and 2024. The analysis was conducted using Bibliometrix through Biblioshiny and visualized with VOSviewer. The results indicate that China has the highest publication contribution, while research themes have shifted from general welding processes toward pipeline corrosion, fracture mechanics, welded joint integrity, and gas piping systems. This study provides a comprehensive overview of research development, collaboration patterns, and future research directions in piping system welding.

Abstract

The process of determining student majors at SMK Cahaya Prima is still conducted manually without considering students' academic performance and interests objectively. This can lead to a mismatch between the chosen major and the student’s actual abilities, which may affect learning motivation. This study aims to design a WEB-based decision support system to assist the school in assigning new students to the appropriate major. The system is developed using the Simple Multi Attribute Rating Technique (SMART) method, which processes various criteria such as academic scores and student interests to generate major recommendations. The development follows the Waterfall model, consisting of requirement analysis, system design, implementation, testing, and maintenance stages. This system is expected to improve the accuracy, efficiency, and transparency of the major selection process and help the school align student placement with their potential. Additionally, the system may serve as a reference for other educational institutions in managing student major placement.

Abstract

Digital movie platforms expose users to thousands of titles, creating information overload and making personalized discovery increasingly important. This study aims to implement and evaluate a web-based movie recommender using a Neural Singular Value Decomposition (Neural SVD) model on the MovieLens Latest Small dataset. The research applies a quantitative computational experiment. After cleaning, 100,823 ratings from 610 users and 9,716 movies were encoded and divided into training and testing sets while ensuring that every movie appeared in the training data. Neural SVD was operationalized as embedding-based matrix factorization with user and item biases and a dot-product interaction. The model was evaluated using RMSE, MAE, R², a constant baseline, statistical significance testing, black-box testing, and a user questionnaire. The model achieved RMSE 0.8768, MAE 0.6733, and R² 0.2712, outperforming the baseline RMSE 1.0276 and MAE 0.8176. The difference was statistically significant (p = 0.0015), all eight functional scenarios were valid, and user acceptance reached 87.62%. These results indicate that Neural SVD can provide accurate personalized movie recommendations and can be integrated effectively into a Flask–React web architecture

Abstract

The transportation of deceased bodies is still commonly performed manually, requiring considerable manpower and often causing difficulties for attendants, especially when passing through narrow, uneven, or stairway areas. This study aims to design a modular bier based on a wheeled platform and a scissor lift mechanism, as well as to analyze its structural strength using the Finite Element Method (FEM). The design was developed as a three-dimensional model with a modular concept, allowing the bier to be used in two modes: a wheeled mode for flat surfaces and a manual mode for areas that are difficult for wheels to access. The main material used in this design is SS304. The FEM simulation was carried out under a static load of 1962 N, equivalent to 200 kg, distributed over five loading points. The simulation results showed a maximum von Mises stress of 1028 MPa and a maximum displacement of 10.11 mm. The stress value exceeded the yield strength of SS304, which is 206.8 MPa. Therefore, design optimization is required in the joint areas, scissor lift arms, support points, and upper platform frame before the design can be developed into a prototype.
