Abstract

Background : Malnutrition is a form of malnutrition in children which puts them at risk of long-termdevelopmental delays. Nutritional supplementation or providing additional food to pregnant womenand children is one of the specific intervention activities to help reduce the prevalence of malnourishedchildren under five. The objective : from this research to determine the effectiveness of providingadditional food with local food ingredients to malnourished toddlers on increasing the weight oftoddlers in Kuta Village. Method : This research is a Quasi Experiment with a One Group Pretest andPosttest design which was carried out in Kuta Village, the working area of the Kuta Health Center,Central Lombok Regency. The sample was 20 toddlers based on the nutritional status indicator WHZ.using the total sampling technique. Samples were given intervention in the form of providing additionalfood from local food ingredients every day in the amount of 1 portion with a calorie content of 300-450calories, 6-18 grams of protein and 7.5-29 grams of fat. grams in the form of complete meals andsnacks and given for 90 consecutive days. To determine the difference in the effect of supplementaryfeeding interventions with local food ingredients on the nutritional status of children aged 24-59months, the Paired Sample T-Test statistical test was used. Most of the toddlers who experiencedweight gain after receiving additional food experienced weight gain, namely 18 toddlers (90%).Results:There was a change in the nutritional status of toddlers before and after the intervention ofproviding additional food with local food ingredients, namely from poor nutritional status to goodnutritional status for 10 toddlers (50%). This study stated that there was an influence on the weight gainof malnourished children on the provision of local food ingredients (p value = 0.002), Coclusion : therewas a effect in body weight before and after the intervention of providing additional food with localfood ingredients

Abstract

Background: Stunting is a condition of malnutrition with TB/U indicators which indicate chronicnutritional problems. As a result of interviews conducted with nutrition officers from the PilolodaaCommunity Health Center, data was obtained that the cause of stunting in the area was due toinappropriate feeding and exclusive breastfeeding. This was related to maternal education and familysocio-economics. However, currently, the relationship between feeding patterns and exclusivebreastfeeding on the incidence of stunting among toddlers in Pilolodaa Village has not yet been studied. Objective: The research aims to analyze the relationship between the determinants of stunting, namelymaternal characteristics (age, education and employment), family income, feeding patterns andexclusive breastfeeding on the incidence of stunting in Pilolodaa Village. Method: The method used isanalytical with a cross-sectional approachSampling was taken using the total sampling technique asmuch as 43 respondents. The research was conducted in Pilolodaa Village from 26 June to 7 July 2023.Data were collected by questionnaires and toddlers' height was measured using a microtoise which wasconverted into a standardized value (z-score). Data were analyzed using the Spearmen's Rho test. Results: The results of the study showed that the determinant factors for toddler stunting, namelymaternal characteristics, were not significant at p>0.05 for the incidence of stunting. However, the factors of feeding patterns, exclusive breastfeeding, and family income are significantdeterminants at p<0.05 of the incidence of stunting. Conclusion: There was a relationship betweenfeeding patterns, exclusive breastfeeding and family income on the incidence of stunting among toddlersin the Pilolodaa, while there is no relationship with maternal characteristics.

Abstract

Background: Nutrition problems in preschool children (underweight, stunted, overweight) are a concern in Indonesiamay impact family food intake, especially for children under five years. Low dietary diversity is associated with an increased likelihood of double-burden malnutrition. Objective: This study aimed to determine the relationship between household dietary diversity and the nutritional status of preschool children in Allifa Early Childhood Institution. Method: This research was an observational study with a cross-sectional design. The sampling method was purposive sampling in 85 families with preschool children. Household dietary diversity was measured by the Household Dietary Diversity Questionnaire (HDDS). Several indices including weight for age Z-score (were used to calculate the nutritional status of preschool children. Family characteristics were measured by interview using a structured questionnaire, which included age, education level, occupation of the head of household, and number of family members. Data were analyzed using Fisher’s exact test. Subjects were 54.1% female and 45.9% male. The mean age of preschool children was 59,13±14,97 months. Results: Most of the children were 4 years old. The proportion of underweight preschoolers was 5.9%, stunted 12.9%, and overweight 15.3%. The median HDDS score was 10.82±1.356. Most subjects had a high household dietary diversity status (92.9%). Household dietary diversity status was not significantly associated with underweight (p=0.657; 95% CI=0.049-4.357), stunted (p=0.318; 95% CI=0.078-1.923), and overweight (p=0.756; 95% CI=0.369-4.234) incidence. Conclusion: household dietary diversity is not associated with nutritional problems in preschool children. Keywords: Household Dietary Diversity, Nutritional Status, Preschool Children
